The scrub tool cleans the ship, because if a ship in the game gets left underwater for long, rust will start growing on and it will look like a wreck. Also, if you wait for a long time, to empty water from a shipwreck you can scrub it.
The scrub tool, basically when part of the ship is underwater, it’ll slowly start to rot. The rotting is faster if there’s water in that area too. To stop the rotting and I guess preserve the wreck, you use the scrub tool on everywhere the rot is, and it cleans it up.
You should try out the Goliath when it sinks it gets pretty dramastic with all the lights turning off over time Also, Page up and Page down control the time, you can make it night, it's fun.

IDEA- scrub tool is a sponge. sponges are used to clean dirty things. there is mould and decay in the game. i think by scrubbing an area of a ship with the scrub tool and then sinking it that area will not decay. like so camodo sees

Britannic never went vertical, She was so long that when alot of the ship was still visible on the top of the water her Bow ( Front ) Had smashed in to the sea floor and thats why its destroyed in wreck photos.
When you take the water out of a sinking ship, (and fix the hole) the ships colors will be somewhat faded. Use the scrub tool and it takes away the water damage.
To use the scrub, first hold shift and press and hold lmb and move across the ship to were you want to make it dirty, then let go of shift and lmb and then press and hold lmb again without shift to clean the dirty areas
