I have both the damascus bone and stag handles. Haven't used them for anything but they look great on display. I enjoy them so much I even got the baby damascus Bowie with bone handle. I have been trying to find the Gold Rush Bowie for years at a good price. Finally got one for $65.
I have several Bear & Son pocket folding knives that are second to none when it comes to quality. I have always wanted a Bowie Knife, but never could find one that I liked, but the instant I saw the Bear & Son 14 3/8" Damascus Bowie I ordered it immanently. I will also be ordering the 12" Damascus Bowie shortly. Nice video, thanks.
Bought one, (not from bob) Took it out of the box and was shocked at how bad the craftsmanship was on the one I was sent. There was more epoxy on the handle than there was stag. The tip is so thin it was fish hooked from the factory.
Was looking at one in a Pawn shop few days back. Looking closely at the un-used blade. I found a spot on the blade steel about half size of a pencil eraser diameter that was shiny without the Damascus appearance. Seemed a bit odd so I passed on thinking about making an offer. Seems like a great Company. I would be more inclined towards one of their standard Blade Bowies
I bought one from bass pro and haven’t had a good experience. The blade came extremely dirty and trying to get fingerprints on they almost seem permanent and the Damascus already lost its black definition after oiling and cleaning it twice
I have this same knife. It looks great and is a beautiful knife. Just don't ever use it. Blade is very weak and bent when hacking a twig the size of a dime from my deer stand. Was no excessive abuse and wasn't using it like an axe. This was about 8 years ago. Use the sheath know for a gerber bmf. Hate to say it. Beautiful knife. Just not made fore use.
Good quality damascus steel should actually look like this www.perkinknives.com/ekmps/shops/perkinsteel/images/bowie-knife-handmade-damascus-steel-camel-bone-handle-%5B3%5D-109-p.jpg.
Yeah that's a problem with damascus sometimes the paterns are just printed but it depends on the brand then again at the end of the day it's just better to make it yourself
I have a sinuous style bowie, beautiful workmanship, mine is a vintage Bear MGC, is the stag real India stag, or bone that looks like antler, the reason I ask if its real India Stag, is the best stag in the world.
I kind of preffer the kantasune shanobi, it is the same price and is much smaller and made in jappan, but it is Japanies blue steel which is a huge upgrade from this masproduced "damascus". The japanies damacus is much more beautiful and is mad from a powder and forged by hand.
These are still hand forged it’s not a large factory you can look it up, I have one and it is nice quality I know it’s old response but I enjoy this knife enough to point it out. It’s not pot metal Damascus either, it holds a edge after heavy chopping and cooking as long as you oil it.
Bear and son have horrible customer service. My sheath came apart a week after I got it and theyvrefusedvto replace it . I bought one someplace else and have the knife away. I will never but another bear and son knife at any price . Just plain rude and vrappy service
I've never had any trouble at all with Bear and Son customer service. They've been courteous, prompt, and more than satisfactory. Maybe they've changed things since this video was made, but my experience that they have great customer service.
Oh Knives Town Dude: I just love a Damascus Steel Knife, too. To bad what you are holding in your hand there is not true Damascus. I think you are thinking that this is “full tang” because you point to the top and bottom is the “tang” and point out that it’s been polished. Do you really think any amount of polishing is going to make the folding marks just like disappear? Why don’t you take that beauty to a real knife expert and tell him/her what you paid for it and ask how much they’ll give you for it? (Oh, and exact patterns of any horn or antler - even from the same animal - do not occur in nature. But it is so cute the way you marvel at it.) And go check out Knife King on Amazon - they have a lot more of those same kind of real Damascus Steel knives to sell you for like about $60.
The pattern comes from etching the blade, the used steels react differently to the acid hence producing the pattern. It is only on the surface and is easily polished out, as you can see on the edge of an damascus blade.

Lucky find!
Cheapest I found was about $115 :.)

I have one and love it. Mine has the black horn scales... I purchased it when they first started making them; very nice...
Most entertaining blade reviews on TH-cam!
That actually is a pretty good price and I can agree with you when it comes to liking a good Damascus blade, they are just really unique.
Nice to see Bear & Son finally getting some serious TH-cam attention. Might we see a review of the CB00 Gold Rush bowie some time?
I use this knife to fall trees
Proses wood
Clean fish
Etc
Works good so far
Have used it for the past year

hey bob from knifetown.... I like that knife..thank u for showing it....
Almost saw Bob's face in the reflection on the tin! The mystery behind the hands!
beautiful knife!
How is it for use? Im hearing that its blade is weak
Maybe it is some places, but check out the link under the vid for a price less than half that! :)
I bought one from bass pro and haven’t had a good experience. The blade came extremely dirty and trying to get fingerprints on they almost seem permanent and the Damascus already lost its black definition after oiling and cleaning it twice
For Stag Knives i like Silver Stag Knives. they go for 1/2 that price & is also made in the Good Old USA.
How many scalps will you take for it ?
very nice knife, and review
It is India BONE stag, not antler stag. It is a man made product of natural bone machined and heat tinted.
How much did it cost
Nice review as always I live a good damascus blade thanks for the review

It's a low quality damascus steel

Good Damascus steel comes in many flavors and types. There is no specific way it should look.
That link led to pure crap.
does anyone ese find the handle to be a bit off?

Good review. I'm not one for Bowies, but I kinda like this. :-)

It ain’t that.
It's all about the literature. ;-)
