I was homeless at 17 and after nearly 2 years of the street, sleeping in cars and in and out of hostels, I finally managed to get a job that offered training and just enough money to pay rent. 25 years later my life couldn't be more different. The demons of those times occasionally still show up but I can control them and my good life now makes it easier to forget. I just say this for anyone in a bad place now and know there's hope. I'm 42 now and already feel I've lived 3 lifetimes, there's still so much to experience, don't give up, don't give in and don't self-destruct. So much more is waiting for you.
This is one of my favourite songs to play live, especially when the crowd is singing the words back at me... there’s nothing like that feeling. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me so far… Come say hi and chat to me on socials /iamtomwalker
TomWalkerVEVO i'm looking for your album in vinyl with this song, blessing, rapture, sun goes down, leave a Light on, play dead. Does it exist ??? I love your songs so much, i listen them all of time.
My dad was heavy into heroin and homeless while I was living with my mom. He disappeared and we lost contact, and at the age of 10, I assumed he was dead. 6 Years later we heard through friends he was around, we got the plane over and brought him home with us. He came off the heroin while with us through will power and has been with us and clean since. He is a kind soul, but good men don't always make good choices. To all the people that helped him along the way, thank you from the bottom of my heart, the support and kindness of strangers gave me my dad back.
Honestly I’ve been homeless for three months, found a home that is now stable after living with an abusive family , I’m now getting a job at a diner and winning the battle with social anxiety
I lost my home and some one I love on a cold night. I have asked people for money to survive. I have slept under interstate bridges to stay out of the rain. This song is home for me. I am now a Purdue student and becoming who I want to be. Thank you for writing this song.
Currently I am homeless myself. I have the money to get a place and deposits lights, first months rent and last but, can't pass a background and I have perfect credit. By looking at me you wouldn't know I'm houseless
Thank you Tom for giving us a voice. Been homeless with 17 after growing up in domestic violence. Now with 29 life seems to be ok but I'll never forget and passing by a homeless person my heart breaks. Especially when people say in Germany no one has to be homeless, we have a social state. They don't know and they don't open their eyes to the world we live in
This song was suggested by youtube and i absolutely love this style of sound. thanks youtube. thanks tom walker for making this incredible song. i love it
I don't normally comment. After 5 years homeless. I am still recovering from them even two years after having housing. I still don't have a job and everyone beats me up about it. Tom, I use your song to express a faint idea of what my time was like being homeless. I am still to injured to find the words to say to them. So God bless you for making such a real song, with such a strong video. I will admit as a man, your song has made me cry because it feels so good for someone to faintly understand what it's like. Even now a year later listening to it. I still have that feeling. Again thank you. I hope you see this message some day
Hey Alexander, I just want you to know that it’s completely ok if you’re still in the process of recovering from what you have experienced being a homeless person. Also, it’s ok to cry. Just let it all out. It just shows how strong you are. I hope one day you will find your peace. Don’t beat yourself up for all the things that you’re not able to do yet. Healing takes time. You’re gonna be alright.
bud, there is a time you just have to admit you where in a bad place. I recommend reading or audiobooks check out Carl Dwick Mindset. I too was homeless 4yrs also before that in and out of jails and struggle with addiction. There is a way. You just have to get rid of all excuses.. Check out that book.. Then check out Carline leaf cleaning up the mental mess. She has many great books. Self Educating changed my life..
What an absolutely incredible singer. Tom Walker is extremely underrated. His voice can raise such intensity and express emotion. I know one day he will explode in popularity. It is just a matter of time. Keep on doing what you are doing Tom, because what you are doing is incredible
I'm strumming on the corner About to catch last the train home I'll have to jump the barriers So can you spare a penny for my thoughts I've been praised upon the pavements Passers by don't pay much Chased away by neighbours Seen things you couldn't make up If these streets could talk They'd tell a story or two I'll paint a picture for you I can tell you what it feels like To lose your home on a cold night Can you see the blood in my red eyes Have another toke, we'll forget life So come and fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be We can bottle up our fear Brew a taste so sweet Knock us off our feet And we'll Burn our troubles Inhale them all Paint the future on a fractured wall So come and fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be Still in the station when I wake up I missed the last train home Jump back over the barriers No one's got a penny for my flaws I'm asleep upon the pavement Passersby don't say much, tutted at by strangers Dreamt things you'd never dream of If these streets could talk they'd tell a story or two I'll paint a picture for you I can tell you what it feels like To lose something you love on a cold night As the cars roll by under the street lights There's only one way I can forget life So come and fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be We can bottle up our fear Brew a taste so sweet Knock us off our feet And we'll Burn our troubles Inhale them all Paint the future on a fractured wall So come and fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be We could be anyone we wanna be We could be anyone we wanna be These streets I'm walking They've started talking to me Can't you see? There's only one way outta here We have to face the things we fear And we could be anyone we wanna be Yeah we could be anyone we wanna be So come and fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be We can bottle up our fear Brew a taste so sweet Knock us off our feet And we'll Burn our troubles Inhale them all Paint the future on a fractured wall So come and fly away with me To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be We could be anyone we wanna be We could be anyone we wanna be
i was homeless when i first found this song, i was 22 years old living in a youth shelter in Toronto I was starting to become comfortable but still hopeless. I found an oppurtunity to leave it behind and now I'm 26 still struggling to find my place but i have a semi stable place and im hustling my ass off like never before and I have more good days than bad. this song got me through a lot of those bad times and i just remembered it recently, been listening to it a lot lately with a different mindset, it feels good...
Hello friends ❤ quick update. I gave up an unfulfilled life of broken dreams and figured out my true calling was in helping people not lose hope as I once did. I now work at the largest men's homeless shelter in my city. Working directly with the most vulnerable, and marginalized people offering them kindness, compassion, love, friendship, and in return they gihe it back, and we heal each other simultaneously. I keep people alive, safe, warm, and fed. There is not better reward in life than caring for others selflessly. I truly appreciate the kind words and love. ❤
I want to say thank you for speaking to my soul through this song. I suffered a 22 year long addiction. I have 18 months clean now and work in the field for a non profit to combat homelessness and addiction in NYC. Anything is possible with the correct support and reinforcements. " We can be anything we want to be" I sincerely thank you for this inspiring song I so very much identify with. Cheers to you Tom Walker.
This really hits home for me.. I spent 3 months homeless on the streets of New Orleans. Never knowing if I'd make it out. Great song, thank you Tom Walker.
I'm not giving up on you Tom, reminds me of how I grew up. You don't realise how much I resinate with this song. Before my my mum died she lived in the streets in London and explained them to me. How it was. I grew up in this environment and made something of myself bro. Let's show no matter where you come from, that we can be anyone we wannabe!!
My mom is a heroin addict and has been since i was 6 I ran away at 14 and was homeless for a while before being taken in. This song helped understand why she takes drugs. To block out reality of being in a place you dont want to be. In her case that seemed to be around her kids. I am now 25 and have dealt with so much of my own problems but never touched heroin and never would but if i had maybe id be numb and not still hurting. But that is not me! This song is so special. Thank you for sharing. I think it's smart and well put together as it can be relatable to so many different situations x
It's been YEARS. YEARS that I listened to this song for the last time and couldn't find the name to listen to it again. Today is the day TH-cam has recommended this song to me, so thank you. I'm so glad the song found its way back to me.
This was my life. I had an 8 year addiction finally a year clean but will never forget where i come from was street homeless after domestic violence as well! Stay strong my people❤️❤️❤️
I really love how great the acting is. Like you can feel up to the minute the isolation and indisposition a homeless has to suffer. Even if he is constantly surrounded in a crowded city.
I was meant to find this song. He has the same name as my dad. I lost him to COVID 3 days after his birthday in March 2020. I finally cried in Jan 2021 on my birthday listening to this. RIP dad. 🙏🥺
I’ve been about homeless for three years me. My mom and my dad, we’ve been trying and we are starting to see a light now, and it’s wonderful. Currently in the process of purchasing a home though it’s long and it’s been having struggles here at the end of it but I’m hoping and praying this comes through, and my mother most of all is why we’ll make it she’s the heart of us keeping our head on straight
I was homeless last year my mum die I thought I had nothing left this song made me feel like I had something on my heart telling me don’t give up fighting and stay strong ❤️
Your vocals makes me just close my eyes, let go of the controls I have, feel the continuous goosebumps, feel my eyes get misty, and feel a bit healed. Your voice has that power! I am certain there are many others like me who you are healing through your songs. Man, huge thanks from me!
I hope one day your music can become as famous as Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and all thoughs other stars cause your music video is very touching and I really think it's amazing. All the best of luck and hope your dream comes true. You rally have a gift
I think this song really hits people hard because its all about one of the worlds biggest problems and no doubt by a wonderfully talented artist and id say this song has helped so many people with the problem of homelessness as it shows that its not just people low down on the social scale that care for them but also fantastic artists like Tom Walker
I was homeless from 18-22 because two abusive homes. I’m 23 now, one year off the street, i am grateful for my experiences that opened my heart, mind and soul. I wish I found this song sooner.
Do you know what I need? I need a collab between Tom Walker and Corey Harper. Do you know why? I need it because they're amazing and Fly Away With Me and Keeping Me Alive are the best songs ever. They're my absolute favorites.
I became an orphan at 19 with a high school living certificate as my highest educational qualification, labored day and night, under the rain and sun just to eat and put on some clothes, coming from a poor background and most importantly from a poor nation, so many times had dinner with worth $0.3, meat, milk, fish, fruits are all luxuries for me. 13 years later today defying all odds, I'm 32 now rounding up my 2nd year Ph.D. in Computer science and engineering in Japan. Listening to this song makes me remember how it was for me almost 1 and a half decades ago. To anyone listening to this song who is feeling all hope is lost; NEVER GIVE UP as I always used to say "KEEP FIGHTING UNTIL YOU'RE THERE" and believe you're going to be there.
I've never heard a song like this, I'm used to a harder sound in music. I'm glad I stayed to listen to the whole song. It was beautiful, made me tear up. And, this video is gold. How many people do we pass that stay in silence; what must have happened to their dreams when they're alone. The look that was given when the two men approached was so truthful and sad to see. It's what many must feel, not knowing if they will be hurt or harassed for being alone on the streets. The superman cape, on the bike...the impressions of what we wished to feel - never go away. I can't say enough, thank you
Sadly I'm just a new college stupid so I can't rly give any money to the homeless the most I can rly do is talk or smile as a walk past if I ever get a level of success id be happy to share it though

I’ve been a drug user ,homeless and alone but it’s 2019 and I am still here not using,in a lovely house and happy with a beautiful wife 4 beautiful daughters and a son and 12 beautiful grandchildren, so if I can do it anybody can ,my name is Sean Grant AKA Armstrong 54 and happy as fuck with my soulmate Linda A big shout out too all my family and friends.
Udeh Harrison Thank you to all the people who commented on my story about a month ago , I’m truly touched by your replies I might have been a drug user homeless staying anywhere I could but I got off my backside and made something of myself and my life now I’m sitting in a lovely house drug free and looking forward to the holiday season. I don’t see all my kids or all my grand children but they all know that my door is always open for each and every one of them . The reason I don’t see all my kids is because I was married to a lady who didn’t let me see my kids when they were younger but when they became adults the came and saw me, I now see them not as much as I would like but I see them now and then my boy has4 kids and my Girl has 3 kids I met a beautiful lady who became my soulmate and I’ve got 3 beautiful girls with her and my oldest has 2 kids 1 boy 1 girl my middle daughter has 1 girl , my oldest grand kid I won’t see most of them but I love each one of them with all my heart and soul . So even though you might be going through a hard time things will get better trust yourself and most importantly be yourself then nobody can nock you , love and best wishes to all of man kind trust each other and help those less fortunate.
Ankit Yadav No heart-no sentiments. They propably dont have a kind heart and have a "rude" one.Anyway we should not care. This song has a meaning this video clip has a meaning, something to say. So everything is good👆
This is freaking beautiful. In every sense of the word. You know sometimes you live hard, sometimes everything seems out of reach. But Mr. Tom walker today I actually heard your music. I didn't just hear it, I felt it. I find myself feeling a certain kind of way and hearing your message , in your voice the way you say it, well today it just hit a little different and I thank you.
I am so in love with Tom Walker and his music, I found him by accident and fell instantly in love. His songs are all relatable to everyday happenings. I hope he keeps the music coming!!! Would love for him to come to the United States!!!! Your fan forever!!!
It’s been 3 weeks in my new home after 15 month homeless due to DV. Not an addict, just completely terrified, not knowing what to expect next.. and the treatment was so hurtful from strangers passing by. If only they knew I had ran for my life and escaped death. While also hiding while being hunted. My degree and accolades didn’t matter then. I’m struggling with agoraphobia, but having a. Home is the biggest blessing I never knew could happen for me. finding this song really touches me and I hope anyone reading this knows that you are worthy of happiness, health, and peace of mind. Faith conquers Fear, always. Never loose it.. I wouldn’t be alive today had I lost sight and faith in my self.
first time ive heard this song and it hit my soul real big man. i spent most of my teenage years on the streets and it took a lot to get me where i am now, this is beyond inspirational though no matter what you go through you can make it

Been off and on homeless since as long as i can remember and am homeless again now. I wouldn't trade my life for anything though. The amount of empty and unfulfilled people i meet and see every single day consumed by television, fads and trends, the opinions of people they owe nothing to, the constant threat of eviction or an empty fridge, the submission to society and all its rituals... No, I'm happy. I've filled my time with knowledge, experience, love, and a raw human experience. I have been cold and warm, starving and full, at the edge of what i was sure was my last moment and at the same time filled with every fiber of life. I will forever be grateful for the life i have lived and the one i am living now. And whatever comes my way, i know i will be better than "ok" ❤
Don’t hide be yourself and don’t let them get you down we all go through bad times but as the song says you can be anybody we want to be so come on smile and be yourself
"In this sweet and uplifting look at escapism, Danny Chan tells the story of a homeless man trying to find direction, purpose and self confidence. After happening upon a discarded super hero costume, he opts to escape into that character for a few hours. Not only does this change how he sees the world, but it changes how the world sees him. The homeless, sadly, in our society can all too easily become invisible, but there's little more visible than a super hero, is there? A universal tale about yearning to escape and gain some perspective, even if only for a short while" This song is solely responsible for making Tom Walker one of my favorite song-writers
This is the song that was playing on my friend's spotify when he picked me up, after losing the love of my life. It's amazing how one single song can bring back such a wave of emotions, and take you back to an exact moment in your life..
Theres a point on this video that really broke my heart, when he approached the homless man and he flinched, hes showing the true extent of what its like to be on the streets, i hold that community close to my heart, well done tom brillia t video mate
Doing that in a different state with no one knows you is relaxing. Imagine doing this in ur own neighborhood tho, "is that alex walking around wearing superman suit?" Lol. Wish u a happy life, lads, all of you.
This is why music transcends all! Comments made 2, 3 years ago on a magical piece of work keep people sane and in touch with feelings and emotions that have a common but very important thread ✨️
One of my all time videos. Perfect example of how LIGHT can be threw some of the most heart breaking darkness, but then still have the" LIGHT" to still shine brightly. Y'all have a beautiful day n i love u
I can relate to this badly, I know what it feels like when people you would do everything for, treat you like you are nothing. Stay woke, spread love, happiness & stay alive. You're awesome. - to whoever is reading this.

🌻Lyrics Here 🌻 I'm strumming on the corner. About to catch the last train home. I'll have to jump the barriers. So can you spare a penny for my thoughts. I've been praised upon the pavements. Passers by don't pay much. Chased away by neighbours. Seen things you couldnt make up. If the streets could talk they'd tell a story or two. I'll paint a picture for you. I can tell you what it feels like. To lose your home on a cold night. Can you see the blood in my red eyes. Have another total forget life. So come on fly away with me. To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be. And we can bottle up our fears. Grow a taste so sweet. Knock us off our feet and more. Burn our troubles. Inhale them all. Paint our future on a fractured wall. So come on fly away with me. To a place where we can be anyone we wanna be. Still in the station when I wake up. I missed the last train home. Jump back over the barriers. No ones got a penny for my flaws. I'm asleep upon the pavement. Passers by don't say much. Tutted at by strangers. Dreamt things you'd never dream of. If these streets could talk they'd tell a story or two. I'll paint a picture for you. I can tell you what it feels like. To lose something you love on a cold night. As the cars roll by under the street lights. Theres only one way I can forget life. So come on fly away with me. To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be. And we can bottle up our fears Grow a taste so sweet. Knock us off our feet and more Burn our troubles. Inhale them all. Paint our future on a fractured wall. So come on fly away with me. To a place where we can be anyone we wanna be. (Ohohohoh) We could be anyone we wanna be. (Ohohohoh) We could be anyone we wanna be. These streets I'm walking. They started talking to me. Can't you see yeah yeah. There's only one way outta here. We have to face the things we fear. And we could be anyone we wanna be. Yeah we could be anyone we wanna be. (Ohohohoh) We could be anyone we wanna be. (Ohohohoh) We could be anyone we wanna be.
I have lived in bushes, in forests, in doorways, in open field's and tents drenched in the morning dew, ice woken up in some pretty amazing places and to some amazing people. And vice versa.... I've woken up to pneumonia... cold winters with wind as cold as ice... to people randomly beating me in my sleep.. simply for being homeless. And even now a year or so later from being in that situation... I'm still waiting to see the best in every situation that's thrown at me. And as for this song it reminds me of all those times I had. The good. The bad. The amazing people I met along the way. And the not so great ones... the friends I lost... And the ones I gained... all of it made me the man I am today... And for that I am humbled and blessed. And if anyone who reading this and has been through anything like this... I love you and you are not alone. We are not alone anymore. Reach out to me and I'll talk all day and night with you, just so that you don't feel like the way you did back then.
Much respect to you man ,🥰

My dad was heavy into heroin and homeless while I was living with my mom. He disappeared and we lost contact, and at the age of 10, I assumed he was dead. 6 Years later we heard through friends he was around, we got the plane over and brought him home with us. He came off the heroin while with us through will power and has been with us and clean since. He is a kind soul, but good men don't always make good choices. To all the people that helped him along the way, thank you from the bottom of my heart, the support and kindness of strangers gave me my dad back.
So glad your dad pulled through. Mine sadly didn't.

Thank you Tom for giving us a voice. Been homeless with 17 after growing up in domestic violence. Now with 29 life seems to be ok but I'll never forget and passing by a homeless person my heart breaks. Especially when people say in Germany no one has to be homeless, we have a social state. They don't know and they don't open their eyes to the world we live in
How do you become homeless? There’s social services, Bürgergeld, supported living, free health care. How do you end up homeless with that?

You got this bro
bud, there is a time you just have to admit you where in a bad place.
Hope you're okay!

I'm strumming on the corner
About to catch last the train home
I'll have to jump the barriers
So can you spare a penny for my thoughts
I've been praised upon the pavements
Passers by don't pay much
Chased away by neighbours
Seen things you couldn't make up
If these streets could talk
They'd tell a story or two
I'll paint a picture for you
I can tell you what it feels like
To lose your home on a cold night
Can you see the blood in my red eyes
Have another toke, we'll forget life
So come and fly away with me
To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be
We can bottle up our fear
Brew a taste so sweet
Knock us off our feet
And we'll
Burn our troubles
Inhale them all
Paint the future on a fractured wall
So come and fly away with me
To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be
Still in the station when I wake up
I missed the last train home
Jump back over the barriers
No one's got a penny for my flaws
I'm asleep upon the pavement
Passersby don't say much, tutted at by strangers
Dreamt things you'd never dream of
If these streets could talk they'd tell a story or two

We have to face the things we fear
And we could be anyone we wanna be

i was homeless when i first found this song, i was 22 years old living in a youth shelter in Toronto I was starting to become comfortable but still hopeless.

You are amazing and so are all of us! God bless us all!

This song made me cry. Thanks
This is fresh yo! You can hear the pain in his voice if somebody didn't sign this cat it's hard to believe

I wish I found this song sooner.
my new favorite song... love it! Lyrics I can relate to is such a great feeling
Do you know what I need? I need a collab between Tom Walker and Corey Harper. Do you know why? I need it because they're amazing and Fly Away With Me and Keeping Me Alive are the best songs ever. They're my absolute favorites.
This song has touched so many people. Thank you for creating such meaningful songs!

So even though you might be going through a hard time things will get better trust yourself and most importantly be yourself then nobody can nock you , love and best wishes to all of man kind trust each other and help those less fortunate.

Home is the biggest blessing I never knew could happen for me. finding this song really touches me and I hope anyone reading this knows that you are worthy of happiness, health, and peace of mind. When we are homeless the simple acts of kindness towards us , reminds us we are human. We are someone

A universal tale about yearning to escape and gain some perspective, even if only for a short while"
This song is solely responsible for making Tom Walker one of my favorite song-writers

Been homeless. Been broken. But I’m here. And I’m climbing. And succeeding . Don’t ever stop guys

Heard this song while waiting for my plane to take off, that was years ago and I still revisit this song. Such a masterpiece.
May the almighty protect and grant all the homeless shelter and love. 💞💞💞🇿🇦

One of my all time videos. Perfect example of how LIGHT can be threw some of the most heart breaking darkness, but then still have the" LIGHT" to still shine brightly.
Y'all have a beautiful day n i love u
Probably heard it over 100 times, never get tired of this one.
Great work
I can relate to this badly, I know what it feels like when people you would do everything for, treat you like you are nothing.
Stay woke, spread love, happiness & stay alive. You're awesome.

Lyrics:
I'm strummin on the corner
About to catch the last train home
I'll have to jump the barriers
So can you spare a penny for my thoughts?
I've been praised upon the pavements
Passers by don't pay much
Chased away by neighbors
Seen things you couldn't make up
If the streets could talk
They'd tell a story or two
I'll paint a picture for you
I can tell you what it feels like
To lose your home on a cold night
Can you see the blood in my red eyes?
Have another total forget life
So come on fly away with me
To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be
And we can bottle up our fears
Brew a taste so sweet
Knock us off our feet or more
Burn our troubles
Inhale them all
Paint our future on a fractured wall
So come on fly away with me
To a place where we can be anyone we wanna be
Still in the station when I wake up
I missed the last train home
Jump back over the barriers
No ones got a penny for my flaws
I'ma sleep upon the pavement
Passers by don't say much
Tutted at by strangers
Dreamt things you'd never dream of
If these streets could talk
They'd tell a story or two
I'll paint a picture for you
I can tell you what it feels like
To lose something you love on a cold night
As the cars roll by under the street lights
There's only one way I can forget life
So come on fly away with me
To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be
And we can bottle up our fears
Brew a taste so sweet
Knock us off our feet or more
Burn our troubles inhale them all
Paint our future on a fractured wall
So come on fly away with me
To a place where we can be anyone we wanna be
We could be anyone we wanna be
(Ohh-oh, ohh-oh)
We could be anyone we wanna be
And these streets I'm walking
They started talking to me, oh-oh
Can't you see? Yeah-ay, yeah
There's only one way outta here
We have to face the things we fear
And we could be anyone we wanna be
Yeah we could be anyone we wanna be
So come on fly away with me
To a place where we could be anyone we wanna be
And we can bottle up our fears
Brew a taste so sweet
knock us off our feet or more
Burn our troubles inhale them all
Paint our future on a fractured wall
So come on fly away with me
To a place where we can be anyone we wanna be
We could be anyone we wanna be
(Ohh-oh, ohh-oh)
We could be anyone we wanna be

Such an emotional song, I like your voice. I can't believe I miss this song
