I was given a bottle of Remy Martin 1738 as a gift when retired and hadn't opened yet but after listening to guys kinda know what to look for when drinking it thanks so much
Cheers!
You finally drink it?
The origins on how Cognac started is also well worth to mention . See below some history on its heritage Note the name brandy comes from the dutch name Brandenwijn ( burned wine)
The principle of cognac preparation dates back to the 17th century. At that time, Dutch ships had been calling at the coasts of the Charente for decades. The crew happily stocked up on wine on this occasion. As this quality lost due to the long journey, the Dutch demand for distilled wine (brandy), which had a longer shelf life, grew. The inhabitants of the Charente developed the second distillation at the end of the 17th century. The town of Cognac has since associated its name with this new spirit.
It didn't take long for consumers to discover that the brandy from the Cognac region was better than its competitors and willing to pay more for it. The Dutch strengthened their interests in the region and supplied their best cognac mainly to the English nobility. Because cognac remained mainly an export product, many young foreigners settled in the region. They regularly intermarried into the local community and this is still reflected in the name of many well-known cognac houses.
In the 1890s, the houses of Martell and Hennessy managed to gain the upper hand in the cognac trade. They dominated the market for the next 150 years. After this, small companies were able to take back part of the market. Demand for cognac continued to rise, leading to overproduction and a sharp fall in prices at the end of the 19th century. Then the grape aphid, also called Phylloxera vastatrix, struck. In sixteen years, 85% of the vines were destroyed. The rescue came by grafting the European vine onto the resistant American rootstocks. As a result, there was also a massive switch from folle blanche to ugni blanc.
Well done. I would guess that the reduced space requirement on board cognac vs Wine was also a plus
@@simpinainteasy680 Correct there was one other wine that could be taken on long journys , quite a heavy wine from the white wine grape grown primarily in the Tokaj-Hegyalja region of Hungary
Creating wines that could be stored for prolonged time without losing its flavour .
I bought my first bottle of RM VSOP. Took it to a party. All the ladies loved it. I liked it but not my favorite beverage by any means. It’s an easy drink, very smooth. I noticed some camel and vanilla flavors.
I've cooked with cognac for years and a few months ago I thought, hey, I'm going to try this neat and see if I like it. Well as it turns out I have discovered cognac! I'm going to spring for the XO as a Christmas gift for myself. Great review guys!
Good review guys and can’t argue with your choices as had all three myself. 1738 is an excellent product and here in the UK it is about 1/3 price of XO.
XO is obviously excellent and always impresses but on value for money terms 1738 wins every time.
Absolutely.... this year we are going to restart more reviews! Stay tuned!
Just got the 1738, man oh man it's like drinking non carbonated champagne. The heat is there but after it settles, man oh man, do flavours rush through. Drank it first thing in the morning as I didn't believe the flavours last night
They are very good!
I get lit off it every time lol
I love the 1738 so much I've never had the xo
Hello, what would you like brandy from variants: Torres 20, Sarajishvili VSOP, Park VSOP and Meukow VSOP. Possibly others for a similar price. (Remy Martin VSOP and 1738 until I have and I must say that they are excellent :)
So far I have only had the 1738, but can't wait to try the VSOP, not sure about the XO as my pocket book is not that deep..... Thanks
Just got a bottle of the Remy Martin Xo bottle today very tasty delicious 😋 😍
I love Remy Martin XO I buy it all the time
The XO is a fantastic drink!!
Same, love it!
I can see that
I wish I could afford that haha I got a bottle I sloooowly drink.
@@mr.kinkade2049 we only live once just do it no regrets DONT HAVE THE FEELING OF I COULD HAVE SHOULD HAVE WISH I DID IT enjoy the moment FOR LIFE
I'm a Martin. I like them All. On The VSOP right now
They are fantastic!
1738 all day. such a tasty and smooth sipper.
That it is!
If I could afford to drink the XO all the time, I would. That stuff is smooth. 1738 is gorgeous too and way more affordable.
Loved the review. I thoroughly enjoyed it. You both got yourselves a new subscriber.
We appreciate you!!
Great review.
VSOP use to be my go to when you get now I really enjoy the 1738 but hoping to try the XO one of these days.
Again great review
Thank you!
Same that price makes it only to be for special special occasions lmao
5:09 Lightning outside 😳
Thanks for the review. I’m not a brandy / Cognac drinker. I gifted my friend the VSOP bottle for Christmas since he’s a big Brandy drinker. I hope I made the right decision.
I think you made the right call ;)
Did he drink it?
Good call
So, is the XO worth paying three to four times more than VSOP?
In our opinion.... Yes. Whole other level.
Buy it as a treat, don't drink it all the time. The 1738 is nice too, but the XO is smooth as f.
Don’t put it directly up to your 👃 at first. At the chin, then swirl, and then to the 👃.
I just bout me the VSOP I love your show soooo much
Hey HeGreat! Thanks for the Great compliment!!

I can attest that the VSOP is hot on the nose.
Lmfao 😂. Noted
I have been on a Tercet kick but I'll try 1736.
Doooo ittt!!!
Let's do shooters of Legacy king Louis 13th
Totally down! You're buying, right?
Remy vsop has a bite
Very Superior Old Pale.
It can actually be stated both ways!
Why are you drinking Cognac out of a whisky glass?
These glasses have become a standard for taste testing across many different types of spirits! Yes a traditional glass is always nice, but these do the trick also.
Why you miring bro lol
Excellent, informative review guys but you need to brush up on your French pronunciations.
I Would Buy the Factory or Stillery sit there and drink XO The Rest of My Life if i could afford it. So i got to settle for 10 bottles instead. You didnt Mix it with coke Weak Review you shoulda included mixing.
We don't mix with Soda. It's not our thing.
@@astarterandachaser433 I Forgot it could be like that.
Why can't you pronounce the word cognac ?
Cognac!
Hennessy holds higher market share not Remy Martin
sure...if you're in the GHETTO!
@@naturelover2292 scotch...but if i have to drink cognac it's going to be Remy 1738.
Most blacks from hoods and middle class that I know from where I'm from drink Hennessy... I prefer Remy Tho
But quality wise... remy wins over henny.
