By Inheritance is one of the best albums in tech thrash history. This performance is very underwhelming though i gotta say, kinda sad to see after how incredible the album is
"one of the best albums in tech thrash history" ?? ... I'd say one of the best in *METAL history OVERALL* , period. Like... top 5 for sure. Calling it "tech thrash" is just too limiting... it's more like... *EPIC GENRE-SHATTERING MUSIC* ... :P ... "This performance is very underwhelming though i gotta say" ... ?? -- a bit underwhelming, yes, and here are the reasons: 1) POOR recording quality and tools. 2) poor *MIXING* -- the vocals overwhelm the instruments by A LOT. they're barely audible !! 3) Only 1 guitarist instead of the expected 2 brothers. Thus, he has to fill for both guitars' parts and solos. 4) Different singer, who improvises a lot of the vocal melodies. 5) Rushed set. (maybe they had limited allocated time or were running late ??) . Otherwise, it's perfectly OK !! :) .
I have a theory that the main solo in Khomaniac, in the studio version of the album By Inheritance, was recorded by a session musician who was NOT part of the band. Why? Well, because in all the years after, for all the times they've played this song over and over, *they could NEVER replicate the same solo, not even close to it !!* It honestly just seems like a wild random improvisation, this main solo, any time they do Khomaniac live. ... Don't forget that the album was produced by the famed Flemming Rasmussen, who also produced Metallica at the time, in the previous several years. For a man with HIS connections... it would have been no problem to find someone to fill in some solos for the band as an uncredited guest musician... ;]] ... (in fact, if you listen closely, you can hear many trademark licks of the Hammett signature sound in Khomaniac's main solo... ;]] ) .
