I've been riding my Mukluk 3 year-round in Southwestern Colorado for just over 6 years - it's been great, still solid as a rock, I love it. Snow riding has improved my overall MTB skills so much - snow riding is so much fun, and the solitude is amazing. My summer riding buddies just don't understand - they say it's too much hassle getting dressed to go riding in the winter, and it's too cold, etc. It's no different from XC skiing (which they do, but can't see the similarities), but a ton more fun - you can go a lot faster, and you actually have brakes! Lots of sand on the banks of the Thames when the tide goes out, Lee. Thoroughly enjoyed fatbiking there when I lived there. Have a look at the Thames fatbiking films I made what seems like an eternity ago!
Great no-nonsense review that convinced me to finally pull the trigger. Nice bike out of the box and after a couple of upgrades it's a pure perfection.
Great job on this review! Been lasting after a fat bikes for past two winters. The alloy build with few small upgrades down the road would be a terrific addition to my stable...the challenge is how to convince my better half that 4th bike is what I need 😂😂
Great review ! Just sold my Gen 1 Mukluk. Sounds like the 2021 is going to be as bombproof as mine was. In all the years I rode in Canada in the winter all I replaced was my chain. Salsa makes a great entry level Fatty.
I ride 26x4 tire Mukluk in snow everyday, solid bike. Tire width of over 4 inches is overkill in most cases; 3.5 inches would be perfect but no one produces them.

Yep, Medium Rick - I did plot that route out :) - sometimes it's great riding, and sometimes it's tons of HAB... depends on season, weather, and motorized use... ps - the pic in the video is from Paoha Island in the middle of the lake... canoed out there once with my fat bike... it was amazing, like riding on the moon (or at least what I imagine it to be)... unfortunately, USFS came across my blog and said riding a bike on Paoha is illegal and asked me not to advertise it... but bikepacker.com still has the article up if you're curious: bikepacker.com/paddle-pedal-paoha-island-mono-lake-ca/

Hi Brian, thanks for commenting... I haven't ridden a Farley 5, and not that familiar with it... but after checking out the specs on the website - looks like a pretty sweet bike for the buck... seems like it's more oriented towards firm snow/groomed, and geometry more similar to Salsa Beargrease, as well as the 27.5 wheel spec... whereas the Mukluk is for longer days in the saddle/multi-day bikepacking adventures, floatier on softer snow... I like that the Farley comes with a dropper post, but don't like the 1x10 drivetrain - anyhoo... depending on what terrain/your riding style... seems like a great option :) - Ride on!

That extra price of China manufactured parts & frames is hurting. You'd think more companies would begin manufacturing in USA, or South America. Just received a Wren fork for the 2021 Mukluk deore. Bike brands give you the lamest & dullest frame colors. Keeping the Terrene 29x2.8 tires throughout the year. And today, with Snowstorm Olive over us, I've installed the Cakeeater studded. Nothing prevents me from my obsessive after-dinner ride.
Floppy Donger, thanks for watching and commenting :) - I actually like the purple better than the army green... it's the color I'd get if I were buying the bike :). Thanks, Gary 🙌🙌
Nothing prevents me from my obsessive after-dinner ride.

why is purple a hers bike?
Floppy Donger, thanks for watching and commenting :) - I actually like the purple better than the army green... it's the color I'd get if I were buying the bike :). By saying you can get his and hers aluminum bikes for the same price as one carbon bike, I didn't mean to imply that purple has to be "hers"... sorry for any confusion - ride on!

Avid BB7 cable disc brakes are shit. DOT brake fluid supposedly performs better than mineral oil brake fluid in cold temperatures i.e. in snow and ice when it is likely the fat bikes will be ridden.
Alex - thanks for watching and commenting... ride on!
Dirty Teeth mentions DOT brake fluid in the video. Good to reiterate.

Aluminum > carbon unless you are racing for money or made out of it I guess.

Until you get a flat tire
