This is pure gold classic cheers for putting it up. Chess fan
Thanks for posting more excellent content.
Golden era of TV coverage; thanks for posting!
I miss the quality of VHS
I remember, the chess match between Viswanathan Anand and Garry Kasparov in 1995 took place in the World Trade Center in New York City, where later the tragic events of September 11, 2001 occurred. I was follow it live on the internet.
this is amazing content. more kasparov please.
Kasparov was a complete monster when he reigned...
As GM Tony Miles put it "The beast with a thousand eyes"
Awww Danny with black hair. The King is in New York!
Great video
Such a young-looking Daniel King at 19:20
1:40 in the footage shown, Kasparov was upset because he thought he could win with his extra pawn, but White found a clever draw. After Qb1, White threatens g4 and the b5 pawn, so Black has to give the pawn back and the resulting position is drawn.
Kasparov offered a draw, which was accepted. He was upset that he conceded a draw to the machine.
Kasparov did lose with White though, so yes the commentator is right about that. It's just not the right footage that they showed because they showed the drawn game.
Two great players.
- Chess is like life;
- ¡Chess is life!
I remember this match very clearly - I was I think 7-8 years old. Anand won a game in the middle and Kasparov turned his obnoxious mannerisms to 11. The game after he lost he would play his move and slam the door while going to the ante room. I was a lifelong fan of Kasparov but not during this match. He was a bully and Ansnd is equally to blame for letting Kasparov get away with it.
awesome memories! I think looking back Vishy was a bit too young at that point and I think would have done better in a few years as we saw in future WC matches
Engine shows the B x h7 line is winning for white I think
Great 10 game!
Three highly rated commentators don't understand the pressure of actually being at the board in a world championship match versus Kasparov while they are sitting in a studio. "Danny" King was not one of those three. If Vishy says he missed the Bishop sac he missed it.
Who are those people ?. They use wordds like: bishop there or queen there, then play pawn there... Obviously they are not chess players. If someone knows something about chess he will say bishop h7, or queen h3 or pawn g6. Just not there and there and on this square etc
They would say g6, rather than pawn g6. But I got what you mean, weird type of commentary.
Neither would be a world champ if they played during Magnus's era.
No
Same with Magnus and other champion in the future
Wrong
The same type of comment all over again.
@RaniaIsAwesome according to what sources, might I ask? Can't you guys just accept that it's difficult to compare players of the different eras, even kasparov himself says this. Gms have different opinions on this. Fact is, nowadays players are playing the best, most accurate chess in history and for the magnus to be so dominant in such an era is something. Don't make such statements based on solely emotions, why can't the be equals? Ppl simply WANT Garry or magnus to be better and ppl try whatever to fit the narrative
