I think the animation fits this special very well! Plus it’s good to have cartoons that look different to others, as long as it’s justified! I can’t deny that bad animation exists, Angela Anaconda, Rapsittie Street Kids, Mr. Pickles and Legends of Chamberlain Heights being particularly bad offenders, but if you animate your show in a different way and it turns out to be well loved, you’re doing something right! Despite being a straight person, one of my favorite cartoons in the late 2000s is Rick and Steve The Happiest Gay Couple in All The World, and not only does the gay humor in that show crack me up, I like how they chose to animate the show with Lego-esque figures, something they pointed out in the DVD extras had never been done with commercial animation before! Olive here aired on Channel 4 here in Britain every Christmas from 2015-2019 and I’m very pleased to have gotten to watch it in that time, it’s a classic and I hope to show it to my niece (who’s 3 years old at the time of typing) someday!
this movie literally crossed my mind out of no where and i was like "i kinda want to watch it" so i come to youtube and see if its here and find someone has uploaded it in full in HD. what a time to be alive.
You know what, that postman didn't doubt that Olive could do it. Everyone else supported her, but they didn't really think she could do it. Martini only partly believed in her when they were at the North Pole. The Postman fully believed that Olive was fully 100% capable of saving Christmas. Sure, he mocked her once when she told him, but that doubt didn't last. He believed in her, and he was committed to stopping this dog from saving Christmas.
It's funny I just thought of this too and I've seen this movie so many times before. I almost feel like there could've been a moment in the movie when Olive is doubtful that they tell her the postman wouldn't be chasing her so hard if HE didn't believe she could do it
You kinda understand where he was going with how glad he was when Christmas was canceling, having to deliver so much around the holidays without ever getting a rest can leave someone bitter but he made it some sound like he was the only one doing all the deliveries. There’s plenty of postal services that have to deal with that around the holidays but they put up with it. Postal service is in fact an essential job. Maybe he picked that job because it was all he could qualify for, who knows.

My daughter, 19, is right there with you. It came out the year she was born, and it was to her like Charlie Brown Christmas was to me. Now we have memories of both, and Nightmare Before Christmas as well. Never forget!
This is unironically my favorite Christmas movie, the other being Polar Express. There's just something very endearing about Olive being so determined to help however she can, even if people don't believe her and even if she's not actually a reindeer. She just honestly wants to help, even if people laugh at her; This pup that's been called weirdo most of her life for not acting "normally". Though wtf flea bud. That misheard convo was so messed up.

I was a Junior in High School when she passed. I'll never forget her and I just came to realization that I can't watch this because it's still hard to deal with losing your best and only friend for so many years of your life even though that, that was only 6 years ago.
I absolutely adored this special growing up and I am so glad that it still holds it's magic all these years later. I really wish there was more Olive content, she's truly a special dog and reindeer.
As a longtime fan of R.E.M., I immediately smiled upon hearing his singing voice. My smile stayed throughout his character's musical number. And believe it or not, I didn't recognize Stipe's speaking voice at all!
***** Damn reruns of modern Cartoon Network shows like We Bare Bears, Teen Titans Go! and Steven Universe on Christmas Day 2016 but on the bright side, you can watch old-time Cartoon Network Christmas favorites on Boomerang. Go check it out and see for yourself. I miss the good old days of Cartoon Network Christmas.
Naminski Oh yeah of course ahah. I know that. Love to give Boomerang watches here and there. However.. not this year, I don't have that channel on my receiver.
This is a favorite of my now 23 year old daughter and I for years now, and I share it with my students every year before Winter Break. It is now a classic! But still a pretty relevant and saavy classic!
I'm watching this at 21 for the first time since I was 8. I'm laughing at how much of this film influenced my personality and even interests. The artwork was so intriguing to me and the writing was shockingly witty and clever.
The Postman is probably the best Christmas- special villain I've ever seen! Most Christmas- special baddies just hate Christmas because they're kind of jerks, but the Postman actually has a rather valid reason for it (As someone who has seasonally worked as a loader at a UPS hub, I know firsthand what a nightmare the Christmas season can be for anyone working in the mail/ parcel delivery service; Still I got through it by instead keeping in mind that I was playing a small role in helping others have a happier Christmas). The fact that he's voiced by Dan Castellaneta, aka the voice of Homer Simpson, makes him even cooler, plus of course his villain song rules! For that matter, ALL the songs in this amazing special are wonderful! My mom is a retired 2nd grade teacher, and she said that one time when she showed this special to her students, they all applauded at the end of it!
Every Villain In Christmas Special Are Jerks, Such as Ms. Stout From "Legend Of Santa Paws", Professor Hinkle From "Frosty The Snowman", Princapel Pankley From "The Legend Of Frosty The Snowman", Etc!
I actually agree with the villain kinda cuz i work at amazon seasonal at the moment and those boxes are heavy so I'm like what are ppl ordering cuz damn it's heavy
I used to watch this every christmas on cn along with the christmas episodes of powerpuff girls, ed edd n eddy, billy and mandy, kids next door, and foster's home...and I still do online today :)
This is probably one of my favorite underrated Christmas specials I wish Cartoon Network would show this every year also the part where martini and the elf trying to fix the Rolex watch I always crack up laughing
This has always been my favorite Christmas movie next to Home Alone. The nostalgia is real. And crazy to think this was made by Matt Groening, many jokes on this feels like something out of Futurama tbh. Just in a kid friendly movie.
i just realized this year that this is by matt groening. im noticing a lot of the same voices from futurama, especially dan castellaneta as the postman sounding like the robot devil.
One of the best and most underrated Christmas Movies! I watch it every year! And as a family we’ve introduced so many people to it over the years. It’s fun to watch for both kids and adults!
I loved this as a kid but the real reason I'm here nearly a month after Christmas is because the actor who plays Ralphy, one of the biggest bastards on The Sopranos, plays Martini the Pebguin in this and I think that is just fantastic
I loved this special as a kid. And i miss those moments going on the CN channel and watching Christmas classics outside of the Christmas specials they had for their shows. I still like them and I'm so glad the comments are still up for this so others can talk about it.
The scene where they go to a BAR in a childrens film is my favorite part. The song Not so Bad is one of my favorite. Love the ability to cheer others up that need it most.
I watch this every year. It's a classic for me. I wore out the VHS for this years ago; now I can watch it again! I love the animation, very unique and I still have the book the movie was based on. I can only imagine how that postman feels now delivering stuff from Amazon LOL.
Besides Arthur Christmas, this is my favorite Christmas special. None of them make me feel the Christmas spirit quite like this one. It's just so heartfelt and sincere. It's surprisingly funny and well- written too.

I'll never forget her and I just came to realization that I can't watch this because it's still hard to deal with losing your best and only friend for so many years of your life even though that, that was only 6 years ago.
I'm sorry to hear that
I'm sorry for your loss.
I absolutely adored this special growing up and I am so glad that it still holds it's magic all these years later. I really wish there was more Olive content, she's truly a special dog and reindeer.
- 1999: Yeah. 😊 😃 😀 😄 😁
- 2023: No. 🙁 ☹️ 😦 😠 😡 😤
i dont know who the biggest hero in all this is, Dino Disco for uploading it, or TH-cam for not taking it down in 6 years
Dino Disco. Don’t give credit to TH-cam for apathy. Dino Disco is the only hero here.
"Thats why you're not interested in chasing cars and barking like an idiot!"
Haha, what a great special.
Fun Fact: Michael Stipe, lead singer for REM, is the voice of Schnitzel
I thought it sounded like him!
Did not know that
That's sooo late 90's
As a longtime fan of R.E.M., I immediately smiled upon hearing his singing voice. My smile stayed throughout his character's musical number.
And believe it or not, I didn't recognize Stipe's speaking voice at all!
You don't say, I always thought Schnitzel's voice actor was John DiMaggio
Don’t you just love it when TH-cam recommends something that was nearly forgotten then the memories come flooding back.
Aye

You shoulda seen Bugs Bunny and even the 20's-30's cartoons. Completely inappropriate for today's world, but classic!
I mean it was created by Matt Groening.

Gosh I miss the old days
Did you check the TV schedule for Cartoon Network for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2016 to have a lot of Christmas animated TV specials?
I did, Olive isn't airing unfortunately
*****
Damn reruns of modern Cartoon Network shows like We Bare Bears, Teen Titans Go! and Steven Universe on Christmas Day 2016 but on the bright side, you can watch old-time Cartoon Network Christmas favorites on Boomerang. Go check it out and see for yourself. I miss the good old days of Cartoon Network Christmas.
Naminski Oh yeah of course ahah. I know that. Love to give Boomerang watches here and there. However.. not this year, I don't have that channel on my receiver.

Do you miss the good old days of Cartoon Network Christmas?
I've always loved the art style for this special. It somehow holds up so well.
They said Christmas 75 times. I counted. I am definitely not wasting my life.
who did this to you
Olive the other reindeer but every time they say Christmas it gets faster
This is a favorite of my now 23 year old daughter and I for years now, and I share it with my students every year before Winter Break. It is now a classic! But still a pretty relevant and saavy classic!
I used to watch this movie so much on Cartoon Network! Definitely the most memorable Christmas special of my childhood.
This movie never fails to make me smile and warm my heart. Merry Christmas to all!

I agree, he's so enjoyable to watch. :D
I actually agree with the villain kinda cuz i work at amazon seasonal at the moment and those boxes are heavy so I'm like what are ppl ordering cuz damn it's heavy
@Tobias Cox Well he seems much happier as a penguin at the very ending song.
@Billy Brooks What about the Postman?
"DELIVER THIS, PUNK!"
That's my favorite line in this movie. LOL

Fox was the real best to air it, not Cartoon Network.

This has always been my favorite Christmas movie next to Home Alone. The nostalgia is real. And crazy to think this was made by Matt Groening, many jokes on this feels like something out of Futurama tbh. Just in a kid friendly movie.
Interestingly, this special and the Home Alone movies were made by the same studio (Fox).

I really love Oliver's voice. Whoever does that does a really cute good decent job with it. I could listen to it a million times.
She’s so cute. Drew Berrymore does her voice
i just realized this year that this is by matt groening. im noticing a lot of the same voices from futurama, especially dan castellaneta as the postman sounding like the robot devil.
I read from Wikipedia that Castellaneta won an Annie award for his voice performance as the postman, and it definitely shows.
Also it was animated by DNA Productions. The same team behind Jimmy Neutron and The Ant Bully

How is this movie not more popular??? Hilarious classic!

The postman would have had a rough 2020 if he weren't still in the penguin exhibit at that zoo.
This is SUCH a good special. I was not really old enough to care when this came out, now as an adult this is just amazing. Very smart humor.
