That's true, Phil was intelligent, probably the second most intelligent hardman in the show after Den (the smartest no doubt) but in terms of fighting strength, I still think he is overatted and goes behind Grant (the strongest hardman physically) and Dennis (Dan comes close to overtaking Phil because he pinned him against the wall) in the physical hardman list for me.
well jack held phil for minutes in this clip when thy cut scenes to, which made him stronger strength wise., phil just got out luckily when he got the elbow.
Eastender writers are known to be very inconsistent. One minute you would think Phil would be able to take JAck, next it seems that Phil doesnt want any trouble. Phil may have landed one on Jack more often but his first two punches caught Jack completley by suprise and this one was just an elbow. Jacks one sent Phil spinning into the pit

Funny fight, but great to see Phil get one over Jack again. Jack showed clearly he can't overpower Phil, he fell over backwards. Phil is still the top hardman in the Square!
Yes but Jack also hit him by surprise although i do think phil is tougher it is quite stupid since he is in his mid 50s and jack should be at his peak.
It was more of a lucky win though than a win through a big fist fight, Phil would have had more trouble taking on Jack if it was a real fist fight (considering Jack was an ex-cop). I honestly think Phil is too arrogant and overated as a hardman (Grant was harder in my opinion because he was involved in more fights while Phil mainly threw one lucky punch and then its over) no offense, but at the moment Phil and Jack are probably the hardest in the show.
I think phil is more dangerous than grant or dennis, overall i think the only person that is a better overall hardman than phil is den (the best in my opinion). Grant and dennis are the hit first types and dont really have a back up plan therefore, the are one dimensional. On the other hand, phil uses his bran to tear you apart use resources (he found out about steve ripping those gangsters off or something like that) and called them on him. He only uses his fist when pushed or he has no choice.
The current top 5 hardmen are 1. Phil 2. Jack 3. Masood 4. Max 5. Alfie I would have put Ray in but what has he done apart from pushing Micheal Moon lol
This clip showes phil has got a bit of fighting left in him and when jack squared up to him phil said 'i dont think youll be as lucky this time' and jack backed off so it shows phil was ready this time to fight but jack backed off. One character i think that is not hard is ray simpily because he hasnt done anything at all
agree an elbow on jack after noway out of the jack's firm hold for phil doesn't mean phil beat jack, its was just a tussle leading to phil luckily elbowing.

After his fued with Steve, Phil didn't have much fights as he initially did, so I think he is an overated hardman (no offense to those who still love Phil as a hardman).
jack overpowered phil for long, even they cut scenes for 2 minutes, and when sharon and co were listening to their brawl, they moved back to the scene show jack still holding phil and phil unable to get out of for long, until he got found a way to get out with couple of elbow, so i wouldn't say phil beat jack fairly tbh lol
