This series is like a cross between Detective Dee and Luoyang I love Song Weilong character Zhang Ping but his quest to be upright, just, and seeking the truth can get him killed, since he is young he has not realized that knowing too much can cost him his life. But so far so good! He doesn't know martial arts but he is not very strong how did he let that old man overpower him. He reminds of Erhlang from Luoyang being very impulsive.
I Think some illegal activity is going on at a specific region in this show something his dad might have come across while on his travels. The Mo village was most likely killed as a cover up maybe they were labours

Agree. But justice and help is rare in ancient times. Everything is based on status and rank, there were PLENTY of corruption and the criminal was a doctor, where doctors were very well respected in the past by the unwashed. Despite not depicitng anyone in rags, majority are slaves and are mistreated. He probably thought the authorities will side with the doctor. Injustice, slavery and corruption had always been rife in ancient times everywhere, that is why Communist gained traction last century.
So rude and insensible. He gave away all his life to revenge for friends. He was just a child living in hell, it's fine if he didn't know how to bring help. He went back to save them is enough. You don't deserve a friend like that.
Most officials of this kind of story wouldn't believe in a homeless kid in the street and think of them as street rats. Likewise, most of the poor and homeless have no trust or faith in the officials

Back in the day the police only helped you if you were rich and had backings. No one cared about homeless children.
