The king of heroic fantasy sadly taken to soon. Read this in about 1984 when I was around 15. I then read every other book he brought out. He was more than any other the author who gave me my love of books. Every 6 months he would publish another book without fail. He was worth 10 of writers such as George RR Martin. David Gemmel never betrayed his readers for me he was and is the greatest writer of science fantasy we ever had. Thank you for this audiobook...brought back some long forgotten memories.
It's the same here, I got my love for SF books down to David Gemmell, Hero's beyond the Gate, amazing book to read, he just makes the book come alive, rip Mr G

Love thie character of Druss as a kid I still do read David's whole Drenai saga then some. When people ask what's your favorite books it's the tales of Druss. David Gemmell was amazing The man was a master at his craft. Thank you for bringing back the memories since I no longer have the books. Hail Druss the Legend fear the Death Walker.
I wish I knew who it was or where the original version of this came from. I only stumbled across it as a ripped .mp3 but thought to share it with everyone :)
Was wonderful to hear this story again after reading it so long ago. Huge thanks for the interview also. It's amusing to hear the saga poet of the story described as tall, skinny and bald... a mirror image of David.
We need the chemistry between both in actors would be incredible the saga master is incredible in the books.. These books need movies like the Lord of the rings and beyond Waylander and more
I was a lit teacher and what Gemmel could do the best was create moments of great excitement and characters we love. His books are simplistic but greatly satisfying. He is my favorite genre writer.
A lovely and immersive story with interesting characters succinctly developed. The strategizing and battle scenes are smart and well drawn and make for a very rich short story. Narrator is amazing - his inflections say so much about each personality.
David Gemmell my favourite author by far. So many good books its a pity he died to soon. What other books could he have written if he had lived? "The war of the twins" The narrator is it Iain Glen? who played Jack Taylor and Jorah Mormont in GOT
I've only ever read Legend. Only twice. I have had the hardest time finding it again. It is one of my top 3 favorite books. I'm so excited for this one.
I'm afraid most/all of his other books have been made into real audiobooks, published on Amazon etc. I wouldn't want to take support for republished material away from publishers on the off chance there is more to come :) this short story has never been re-released as far as I know
First video in 5 years… Strange it ended up in my recommended. Nice short story.. the character is new to me. I’ll have to see what else the author has written.
Yeah I don't "create" content, just share the good man's work whilst trying not to stifle new content from his estate (e.g. new audiobooks, etc.) Hence why I am only sharing stuff copyrighters won't be bothered about. I also gain nothing from this. If you are new to Druss, I would definitely read Legend.
Wow Corrie, you are in for one of the best experiences of your life. I found David Gemmell when I was 13 and still read his books over and over again every year.
This author changed my perceptions on a lot of things, the nature of heroism and evil, friendship and sacrifice, loyalty and love. Complex characters, yet easy to grip stories. A penny western style made infinitely richer. Small criticism tho, it's pronounced Droose like Goose.
@@f2ppokebtw854yeah fair dues. It's that slight accent. I swear I hear something between Druss and Droose. I also had Neigh deer for Nadir (Nardeer) interesting how the mind works or doesn't. Thanks for the upload of the interview it's the only footage of him I've ever seen.
This is the full book. It is a short story which served as a precursor to The Chronicles of Druss the Legend. His major works are available on Audible, sadly the narrator is not as good in my opinion
right..um... is it ok to rip this right of the tube ? sure got the books....but its good stories , organic characters...dynamic universe... good reader voices is rare , in a age when all the big corps wants to push 'renting' on you.. having a physical copy of a reading of one of the few borderline spotless fantasy that merges organic characters and slice of lifes universe with heroics to listen to while having a drink be a rare treat so to speak ^^

I've been dreaming of a Druss movie for decades but read somewhere that he gave strict instructions to his family never to sell the rights to his books to movie producers. And the reason was that once his characters were in their hands then they would be allowed to makes tweaks here and there and thus changing their original characteristics. Only a true fan could do it justice I guess.

unlike a lot of other novels , his world never hade any 'contrived' threats inserted for his heroes to be heroic etc.... and his characters where such deliciously ...organic.. ones...

i think i always will remember the end of druss and dakyres i think...
and considering the 'end' of druss as it got revealed in a later book purely as a side thing... i'd say they both kept on existing in his universe even after death if he lived to make enough books as the centuries and millenias flowed onwards the 'chaos spirit' and 'light/well spring' might have found the humans of that planet fearing and bartering for another pair of 'gods' aid in dire times.... druss the legendary ruthless soaked in blood yet protective ....and the wanderer , the demon of the night in life untouchable as spirit indomitable ..to fight him be just to make him grow stronger... yet compassionate
David Gemmell is the king. My favourite from him is a toss up between the Jon Shannow trilogy and the Lion of Macedon/Dark Prince duology.
My father introduced me to David gemmel. Love listening to the audio books since my dad passed, reminds me of my dad reading to me
Aw mate, my dad did the same. And although he never read to me, I know we shared the same favourite author.

It's the epilogue to the first chronicles of druss the legend
Thank you for this upload, it brings memories flooding back of the Legend himself.

Nobody can write a fight scene like Gemmel
This was brilliant 👍
Thank you soo much 🏆🙏🏻

Legend was the first real book I ever read and I was hooked to sword and sorcery
Kings too you my friend this has been a long time coming amazing scene personnel favorite
Great username by the way :)
My favorite writer

There's a Drenai saga collection in one volume 🪓
excellent narration
what I find most fascinating about the story is the quality and availability of healthcare services to chais warriors, great story anyway
Yes!!! Can you get more up?

I love this
Good one.
To the author: thank you for this amazing story!
Can u do more david gemmell. I only found this but u did it so well. Thank you and well done 👏
I did nothing, only upload it! His other works are available on audible, but the narration isn't as good as whoever did this short story I am afraid
The narrator is superb.

If you watch the interview I uploaded, even the big man himself pronounces Druss like "fuss" 😊

Any chance of uploading the full book or others of David gemmell????. Thanks for this it is great and the narrator is very good

It's not a stand alone books but the epilogue to the first Cronincals of druss the legend
Although they may tell grand stories of his deeds. He lost everyone who meant anything to him…!!!! I truly understand.
