I've only just begun putting together my get home bag and as an older lady I wasn't sure what to buy. I went to a local gun shop to purchase mace and also bought this Gerber Principle knife. I'm so glad to see that the gun shop didn't steer me wrong by recommending this knife. Thanks for a great review and explanation of the sheath options because I had no idea how to use them. As some one new to preparedness, I'm finding your channel extremely helpful.
Love you sootch. I appreciate how you keep it real without having to get things perfect, then show us the bloopers. I chuckled a little at "it comes in black or FDE so you have a lot of choices" it reminds me of talking with my adult kids
I’ve got a pre production custom S30V variant with leather sheath from Gerber as a gift from Gerber... wish they’d make it full production it’s beautiful
I did have one 2 but one time in el Salvador san salvador the cops took my knife while local people were carrying in from of them machetes and stuff and they careless just messing with me and my family... so sad and frustrating
Sootch00 good old vids (3 yrs later) still very helpful a friend of mine give me this knife as a gift he knows I'm prepper plus cant say NO to 1 good gerber knife anyways I went on sensible prepper channel and here it is the knife and Sootch00 putting the it to the task 😀 thank you again sootch
I've carried Gerber practicaly since I could walk. As a Boy Scout, camping, and in the Army I kept a Gerber MKll, and a MKl. Gerber multi tools, axes, etc, so if they have a new offering, I don't wait for a review. I review it myself. However, I do have many other knives and bladed instruments, but always rely most on my Gerbers! Sootch, awesome video once again! You help to bring mamy others to the Gerber fold...
I have had the Strongarm for years now and knew the Principle would be the perfect companion knife for the Strongarm because you can get the razor edge for finer tasks with the Principle that you cant get from the Strongarm. And the principle fits beautifully on the front of the Strongarm sheath with some paracord and leaves the room you need to attach kydex loops for a ferro rod and flashlight.
They are bad knives mine buckled from the middle of blade edge running up its height and that was done by making feather sticks I didn't use it to batten or hack at a branch...really disappointed it looks the part but every other knife will be a bad one
I have this knife and love it, one of the best purchases I’ve made. This is now my EDC knife. I have a alternate leather pouch that it fits in perfectly. Alan Rice.
I bought this blade last week. Actually wearing it now scout style right now. Been carrying edc for two days. Loving it. No rattle in this position. No hard use as of yet but a good shtf companion knife for my esee junglas.
@Sootch00, I've been looking for an American-made knife that I could carry scout-style on my belt. I think I need one a bit smaller, meaning shorter. Does Gerber make a similar sturdy knife that would fit on my smaller waistline?
Rick Britton, Great knife, I still haven't bought my Smith and Wesson knife yet, I love that knife also, what a great sheath. Thank you sootch00, your the best. Sincerely Rick from Mo and God bless you and your family
420HC From Gerber's U.S made steel is perfect for this type of knife . The sheath being USA just added more reason to buy it. I'm really wanting to support USA made and seeing they went full USA with the whole rig I'm super excited. I know there is competition that competes well BUT I'm willing to pay $10 more to support our community and OUR NATION.
I haven't seen a Gerber come out in the last decade+ that I'd give the time of day to, especially folders. This is the first one that I not only considered, but actually really want as a backup. I was just going to get a Mora, but I like the design and especially the versatility of the case. My only qualms is that 420HC steel. I'm not a huge carbon steel fan. I know they're much more durable and easy to sharpen, but I prefer better edge retention. I had the LMF, and it was pretty soft. I'm going to assume the Scandi getting will yield a longer lasting edge.
Several years ago you did a video and I am having a hell of a time finding it. You had this kit you put together of (i believe) oatmeal (?) and a few other things in a single walled container. I'm looking to replicate it and would love to watch again. any help you can offer to make finding it a bit less frustrating? I have no idea how you labeled it. Sorry for being aboslutely no help.
Garber, condor, and a few others did a sandi grind outdoors/Bushcraft knife similar to the Mora garberg interesting to see another company's take on a great design.
Noticed you used the ferrel rod on the blade, and noticed there is a small groove on the blade just as it meets the handle, does that fit the ferrel rod better? Thought it might be more effective and not slide down the blade.
Had to pay $103 for this knife in the UK but I STILL THINK ITS WORTH IT.Wont buy anything from China ,if I cant get it from Uk its either Europe or USA.Just recently found the channel and love the advice given, and comments section also very helpfull too. Please keep them coming ,although still working through back catalogue.
I believe it is worth it, just as He showed in the video rally performs well. Perfect size for a belt knife if u don’t like carrying a large knife. Alan Rice
Who needs more earrings...I want this knife. #BirthdayComingUp I appreciate reviews of American made products. Every purchase one way or the other matters under current conditions.
I have USA made. Can’t beat them. Buck used to be good? You mentioned rubber mold? I’ve hit rubber molded machetes, binoculars , fishing poles etc. it sucks! It gets brittle and breaks or mushes or liquifies? Crappy rubber product! I’m Leary about rubber coatings now!
If the blade isn't larger than the grip, there is basically no reason it shouldn't be a folding knife. Yes, people can argue about it being one solid piece of metal, less failure, whatev. Still, if I need to walk around with a sheath hanging off of my belt, the blade should be big enough to handle monsters.
For $60.00 there is a lot of choices out there. I have felt Gerber has been selling Knives on their Reputation of times gone by. I feel this is not the only company getting by with this on many different products. Maytag is not what it once was either. That Maytag repairman died.
It’s made in Portland? I live 45 minutes from that S hole. If you want me to take a product serious don’t put made in PORTLAND on it.. that City will never get a cent from me. Hell I drive around it.. 205
can a man prep in such a way as to evade God's holy judgement upon this wicked world? so you've got your gear and your food burried here and there.. got your spider holes and your escape plans.. trained and ran drills? but without the preparation of the gospel of Christ, you are lost, blind, naked, and lame on your feet. you'd better run NOW to the LORD Jesus Christ.. fall at His feet and take hold of Him and don't let go for dear life. He is the way, the truth, and the life and NO MAN cometh unto the Father but by Him. take heed to God's instructions for salvation printed in black and white, as clear as crystal in Romans 10:9-13, KJB. time is almost up.
I honestly refuse to buy any knife that has Gerber stamped on it. When I was young, in my teens me and a friend loved knives. My friend had his uncle's Gerber "tactical" knife. We also liked ti throw knives. The so called Gerber tactical knife exploded on the first throw?? A 2 hundred dollar knife literally shattered from 1 throw and it was done. And when you look at the fracture, it was made out of pot iron. Gerber is bottom of the line. A broken beer bottle makes a better knife than Gerber.
Try the Strongarm and then come back to this video and buy the Principle. Many others made from Gerber are crap, I agree. But you will not break the Strongarm, promise

I bought that knife several weeks ago because of your review and I must say I have really been enjoying it. Thanks brother.🇺🇸
I really like the sheath best of all. Couldn’t tell if it was open to allow drainage or not. Thanks for the look.
Thanks Billy, The Sheath does have a drain hole.
I just got the new Gerber Sumo. Has a axis type lock. Really nice knife. My first Gerber.
I did have one 2 but one time in el Salvador san salvador the cops took my knife while local people were carrying in from of them machetes and stuff and they careless just messing with me and my family... so sad and frustrating
Im trying to buy as much Made In The USA stuff as possible. This is now on my list.

Mine will be here today. Can't wait to get my hands on it and put it to the test.
I bought one of these about 2 months ago. It is a great knife.
I've had the same gerber pocket knife for 5 years, only need to sharpen it a few times a year still holds a razor edge
I have a Gerber ezi out folder, my EDC since around 2000
Live in Portland going to carry scout. Truck diver and believe this will edc well

Thanks George! Gerber is really coming back strong to their original quality that the company was based on.
@@SensiblePrepper, you really can't beat the quality of the Ontario foundry for excellent knives!
Ive had Gerber for years. Love to see a good USA made knife. 🇺🇸💪
Thanks you for the vid. I've decided this will be the perfect knife for my hike on the Appalachian Trail.

I with you on that pairing. I got a Prodigy..... great for muscle work and this smaller Principle for carving,
Just bought this knife today off LAPG. Feels good knowing it’s a solid blade. Thank you for the excellent review!
That is a good knife. I will buy one, and Gerber makes a really good sheath.
They are bad knives mine buckled from the middle of blade edge running up its height and that was done by making feather sticks I didn't use it to batten or hack at a branch...really disappointed it looks the part but every other knife will be a bad one

Very nice video thank you just ordered one for me Happy New Year God bless America...

Nice, just added to my Amazon wish list. I have a big list:-)
lol, don’t we all. Hope you get a nice surprise for Christmas.
Be careful Amazon is know to hook buyers up with scamers who sell imitation junk..buy from the source
I love the Scandinavian grind, but why is there not an Anglo-Saxon grind?
Rick Britton, Great knife, I still haven't bought my Smith and Wesson knife yet, I love that knife also, what a great sheath. Thank you sootch00, your the best. Sincerely Rick from Mo and God bless you and your family
Is there a model with serrations towards the back of the blade? I use that type every day and would love one made in the US.
Good job, screw the Chi Com knives.

Excellent review, looks like a real good knife. Thanks and take care.
I got the same design on my thumb smashed it. I am sure my nail will fall off or peel back later . But it looks tough . oh that going to leave a mark.

Your observations were so spot on from 2018. Just reviewed your: Sweden's Mobilization : Lessons for Preppers! Jun 9, 2018
I’ve been thinking about getting one.
Awesome knife Sootch. Tennessee
Garber, condor, and a few others did a sandi grind outdoors/Bushcraft knife similar to the Mora garberg interesting to see another company's take on a great design.
It does look like a good useful knife thank you for the video and thumbs UP. :)
Thanks Richard!
I love the blooper reel.
Good informative video
Thanks Yancy!
I like mine but I really dislike that I cannot scout carry with it... bc I’m not left handed. A huge oversight IMO.
I would like to see this in 5.5" version. Great review as always. Thanks SOOTCH
Always like the solid wobble
*Review some TOPS knives brother!!! That's where it's at.*
I agree! I'd also like to see some R.A.T. cutlery as well. I've had a Rowen R3 for years, and I love it!
Noticed you used the ferrel rod on the blade, and noticed there is a small groove on the blade just as it meets the handle, does that fit the ferrel rod better? Thought it might be more effective and not slide down the blade.
Hi Charles, You could use the choil with the Fire Rod but the Spine is at 90% for that purpose. I'll try it to see if it's better. Thanks Brother!
@@SensiblePrepper Thanks, just thinking it might be safer for some, appreciate your checking

I have a strongarm I like it and really like the sheaths, ofcourse it could be qiuter but I like it. Good Vid enjoyed
Thanks Marc! I'm also a fan of the Strongarm. Solid Knife.
Thanks for the vid don . Been thinking about getting it .Do you think its worth 60 bucks '!? I'm a big fan keep up the good work. S/F ....

Another great idea for 🔥, magic candles 🕯, ha ha friends from Hawaii 🌸😎👵🏼🙏
Look's like a solid knife! Great vid Don!
Nice knife. Gerber is not responsible for the bullshit going on the west coast. Give Gerber and us patriots a break or we will take it. Tennessee
Wow I lived close to the factory. Benchmade will always be my first choice, but thats a hell good deal for the price.
Went to Amazon and put a black one on my wish list...
I would like to see a leather sheath
But does it skin rabbits and squirrels?
Hey Schooch great vid! Just wondering what watch are you wearing?
(sorry sootch, new cell phone & spell check messing me up.)
Another great review!
Great review! Where's the affiliate link so I can get you paid? 😁
Nice blade
Thanks Brother!
Big fan should have put it up against the kansbol or the garberg (65-75$) almost the same after the price drop.
This also looks like a slight upgrade from the garber spine.
Who needs more earrings...I want this knife. #BirthdayComingUp
I appreciate reviews of American made products. Every purchase one way or the other matters under current conditions.
It's a pretty robust small blade. I think it would more popular it was 4" blade(or offered in that pkg) and just traditional handle.
Nice. No need to buy any other knife or brand. This is the one

I’m definitely buying this knife. I was planning on buying a machete however this knife is too good to pass up.
Really like Gerber knives, but will not buy one of their Chinese models. The made in USA stuff is always excellent.....worth every penny. Nice review.
One more good video keep it up 👍👍
Thanks Brother!
hmmm... guess I need another knife or 2.
Nice knife...
It’s an awesome knife!!!
Nice! 👍🏻
Honestly i dont really care for gerber but this knife looks kinda interesting i think i would like this for just a dpare bob knife
Gerber has really stepped up the game. I've been impressed with their latest offerings. Thanks Brother
Made in America baby!
This knife is totally sick
Man if it was just an inch longer it would be prefect to me

Hey look a tactical mora kniv made in swe- oh.
Love this knife on my belt everyday
For $60 this knife is like Canik of knives.
Price is right ☝🏼 kind of ugly with 3 holes but I can live with it since it’s a USA 🇺🇸 product. 👍🏼
Those holes make it look cool. Without them i wouldn't even consider buying. Js.
Comparison with mora weak.you had to compare with garberg
