As an Arabic speaker and from the land itself I can explain the real reason of this name Al-Haram.
Prophet Muhammad's PBUH Mosque in Medinah and Mosque of Kabbah in Makkah are both called Al-Haram. Haram or Al-Haram basically means impermissible. So because in the boundaries of these mosques many permissible actions become impermissible. For example, hunting animals, cutting trees (except grooming of the surroundings), shouting loud, are some permissible thing everywhere. But as soon as you enter the boundaries of Al Haram these permissible things become impermissible. So basically Al Haram means "the one which make permissible things impermissible". I hope it make sense.

We call it المسجد الحرام (Al Masjid Al-Haram) and it is also called الحرم المكي (Al-Haram al Makki) and for المسجد النبوي (Al Masjid AnNabwi) we call it الحرم المدني (Al-Haram al Madni). I explained it why it's called حرام (Haram) it is because it makes many permissible actions impermissible in its boundaries.

4:20 बोलचाल की भाषा में दो चादरों वाले लिबास (जो पुरुष हाजी पहनते हैं) को इह़्राम या एह्राम कहते हैं। इह़्राम लिबास नहीं, एक स्थिति है जिसमें कुछ धार्मिक पाबंदियाँ होती हैं। ऊपर वाली चादर को रिदाअ और नीचे वाली को अरबी में इज़ार कहते हैं।

बाकी सही रास्ता वही देख पाएगा जिसे अल्लाह(ईश्वर) दिखाना चाहे...क्योंकि वही जानता है कि किसका हृदय कितना निर्मल है और कितनी उसको सच्चाई को कबूल करने की लालसा है।
वेदों में कृष्ण जी या रामजी या हिंदू शब्द का कोई उल्लेख नहीं है।
ऐसा तब होता है जब ईश्वर प्रदत्त धर्मग्रंथों (वेद, कुरान) का सम्मान नहीं किया जाता है, लोग पौराणिक कथाओं के जाल में फंस जाते हैं और मानव निर्मित देवताओं की पूजा करने का अक्षम्य पाप करते हैं जो अंततः उन्हें नर्क में पहुंचा देगा।
प्रार्थना है कि सच्चा रब-अल्लाह( ईश्वर) सबको सही रास्ता दिखाये..जिसे आज तक किसी ने नहीं देखा है..।
