This is wonderful. What a chestnut; what a kick -- this is so rare. The 'Holy Grail' would be a copy of the network, NBC's "The Road West" main title. Because I recorded it on 1/4" tape in my youth (like other favorite shows' titles), I listened to it enough times that it became embedded in my memory. I always loved the music. Heard over composer Leonard Rosenman's rousing main title: "Kraft -- maker of fine foods -- presents . . . 'The Road West' . . . starring Barry Sullivan, Glenn Corbett, Kathryn Hays, Andrew Prine [pause for effect and / or timing] and Brenda Scott." Veteran voice artist Ed Herlihy, familiar from "Kraft Music Hall" and other radio and television properties sponsored by Kraft, announces each star's name as it is accompanied by four, quickly edited, episodic film clips of the regular cast member -- as seen here.. Following each story's conclusion was a Kraft commercial, then Herlihy's voice introduced a preview for the following week's adventure. And concluded each "The Road West" episode with a warm, authoritative: "This is Ed Herlihy speaking."* Obviously THAT main title narration was eclipsed from off-network, syndication prints as well as the dubbed and subtitled copies of the 29 hours shipped to foreign markets since Kraft was only tied into the initial airings on NBC. The master tapes for this series have erased in 1970.
Does this mean the show no longer exists, even 16MM film prints?
