I think it is the most detailed explanation of the elusive V grip. For the last ten years I was searching some thing like this but did not find any. Most of the tutorials deals with the end product such as smash swing, clear swing etc. But there are so many small steps in between before you can master the final swing. No body discuss those small intermediate steps. May be they are coaching secrets. Thanks to you for unveiling those minor details as well as suggested exercises to master any stroke. Please come up with details videos like these for over head swing, smash, jump smash, doubles rotation and footwork.
Amazing!! One of the best coaches in the world.. No channels explains so briefly these are very much basics and so well explained!! Im a big fan boy of you coach!!! ❤
After years of badminton I realised that I always held my racket deep in the palm of my hand. Changing to a relax grip with space between the fingers has been a massive change, both to create significant finger power and changing grips quickly. It's also easier to control shots such as drops as I can rely on the fingers to control the direction. Thanks for the detailed guide!
Mostly people focus on those view getting topics such as how to hit powerful smashes, how to hit perfect drop, but very few people teach what you are teaching like barebone basics which you dont learn if you dont join coaching. So just wanted to say thanks for covering such topics they are really helpful. Video suggestion for next topic would be about the follow through of different shots and how to properly follow through after a shot. Thanks in advance.
Great, video!!! Knowing the basics well is very important for players of every level. I would appreciate it if you could do another video on how to change from the forhand V grip to get the maximum power for shots like; smash, drive, and backhand clear, backhand drive and backhand drop. Best of luck!
Ohh god, this is the most wonderful explanation i have come across regarding grips. I love the way you explain it and the happiness i see in your face when you explain it is so genuine and is re assuring. god bless !
Thank you! I'm glad you're finding it helpful. I really enjoy teaching and making these videos, hence the happy face :) and comments like this make me even more happy to know that my videos resonate with viewers in more ways than one. Thank you
I have been playing Badminton for more than 2 years and I have seen many gripping videos. This is the one that I have been looking for and it is the only one available in the WWW. I have been so sceptical on my grip as I wasn't able to generate power or hit the sweet spot. Before seeing the video I made this change a week before by watching a lot of professional Badminton video in TH-cam but with this video I am relieved that I am now holding the V-grip correctly and I am able to generate the power and a faster swing too!
I really appreciate your channel. Thank you for sharing! I'm learning so much from your teaching style, which helps my stroke in a way that is gentle on my body.
This is like learning alphabet for badminton. Unfortunately no one gives much importance to it. Glad that you covered it very beautifully. Regards, Kiran
Just the right guidance on how to hold neutral / V grip. Nothing out there would come close to this detailed explanation, with pics of how professional players handles the same. Thanks 😊

The way you explain all of this is perfect, thank you so much! Wish I knew this 20 years ago. Do you have any tips on how to replace the current faulty technique with this right way? I find it very difficult to do so during rallies!
@badminton4kids I mean when consciously square the racket on moment of hitting the bird with the V grip. I just remember my palm be facing the direction l want to hit led by the elbow. Elbow be raised to the height of the eyes.
Never seen a focused and detailed one, explaining technically every aspect for the ready grip like this. Thank you! A question - do you ever bring the loose grip from the fingers towards the palm side for any power strokes such as smashing or backhand clear? Or always the grip should be towards the fingers? Thanks.
with full smash, naturally due to momentum, i know i would squeeze hard and turn into a hammer grip, and then quickly release to go back to soft V grip. im sure the pro would have a different technique :)
did you mean hold at the bottom of the grip? Then yes, holding further will definitely give you more power and holding upper grip will give you more speed with less power. Hope it helps

In depth analysis and original exercises. I’ll be sure to try out the timing squeezing. Have a feeling it’ll help me to time my overhead squeezes better as well
Hey Coach, very good explaination of the V-GRIP. You earned a sub. Please release that video regarding finger sqeeuze, especially how to squeeze upon impact. No one really talks about it.
Amazing video, thanks for the detailed run down of the V grip - the switching between holding the racket with thumb and forefinger then squeezing with the bottom 3 fingers is the best description I've seen so far. When preparing for a shot and holding the racket with thumb and forefinger, how tightly should I be gripping? I tried your exercise of hitting the shuttle up in the air and found I was gripping quite hard with thumb and forefinger before hitting the shuttle by squeezing bottom 3 fingers. Should the thumb / forefinger grip be more relaxed than that? Also can you do a similar video for backhand grips when shuttle is in front of you, e.g. backhand drive. To the side for overhead clear/drop/smash and behind overhead when more pan-handle required. Thanks
You are welcome. If you find the video helpful and enjoy my content, please support me by leaving me a google review at g.page/r/CbOJObedLDoREAE/review
Excellent video as always! but just wondering why i have slight wrist pain while trying the practice chopping exercises... is it because I'm doing something wrong? I'm surely maintaining the gap coz u have demonstrated it beautifully. P.S. i hope I'm able to maintain the v grip during the actual hitting and not magically slide to pan handle
when you squeeze, make sure there is no sudden jerke or strong flop in the wrist. you only flop the wrist if you are doing a controlled soft action to learn to relax the hand.
Really like your explanation, i just have one question. at 3:08 you mentioned that professional players like to put their V grip little bit toward the index finger side or thumb side?
A question please. I always wonder if thumb is places on its side, one the wide panel or as Zheng Siwei demonstrates, curled around the small side bevel a bit. The pinch between thumb and index finger, with loose grip and lots of space is essential. Thanks for all yoru teaching!
I have watched that Zhegn Siwei Video. I might make one on it. I have tried his forehand grip, and it is HARD work. Personally I can understand why he holds the way he does, but I would have to strengthen my forearm significantly to make it work. Thats why he is the World and Olympic Champion and we are just normal people :)
Grip is one thing but how to swing smoothly and how everything comes together with a clean impact is another part. yes the exercise will help especially holding either 3 fingers n then bounce the shuttle or simply thumb n index finger hold to bounce the shuttle while changing between forehand n backhand… it will help tremendously to allow shuttle pace control, trajectory control and control of when you exert your snapping power… its effective in deception, power creation n helps finesse shots…. Its everything
My grip still tightens when anticipating my opponent’s shot, especially a smash. Because if I do not grip hard, how can I maneuver my racket into position with speed? Or do we only soften our grip when we do our strokes (forehand backhand drops, etc.)? Can you do a video(s) on specific grips for: forehand backhand smash?
@@badminton4kidsdefense mostly. But even during attack, my grip instinctively firms up while maneuvering my bracket into position before I relax for the actual stroke / swing.
for me handle position is different than 'grip'. handle position is how you are orienting the racket face. in most situations orient the rackat face so the edge is against your opponent, neutral between backhand and forehand. the grip is easy. there is no grip. dont grip at all until the last moment when you are transferring energy from your body to the shuttle. for that brief moment you squeeze a little but other than that you do not grip at all. a mouse should be able to nestle comfortably between your hand and the tape
@@badminton4kids nope. you never see that with social players. no matter what you say to them they usually grip the racket as hard as they can because of what they believe
