My HO Scale Slot Car Raceway! 4 lane roadcourse w/drag strip!

- This is my track I have set up in my garage. I have a 4 lane AFX/Tomy roadcourse with a elevated drag strip from Viper Scale Racing. The table is ridiculously over built but that isn't a bad thing.
I had a lot of help/info from Dan at Viper Scale Racing with this build. He is one of the nicest guys you can meet and promotes this hobby like a pro! Make sure to look him up and support his company.

Killer Raceway! I’m currently making 2 lane micro raceway 29 feet). I went through every joint to make it as smooth as possible. Even used Tamaya putty to make sure jointss were super smooth. I will paint once I get the track the way I want it. It takes time, but worth the effort. 😎🤙
Thanks man! Appreciate it! I have a buddy that has done what you are talking about and his track sounds amazing when a car runs on it! We have gone through and sanded down a few spots that were known to catch, but have not done the filling and painting. SO MUCH WORK! It will pay off for you though. Please keep me updated on your progress.
@@ryanperry9472 It is a slow process. My raceway measures 33” x 63” so all joints are easy to reach and work on. I also have had aprons made and have filled in those joints as well. Brad @ Brad’s Tracks fabricated my aprons and driver stations. Brad did a great great job and he’s located about 45 minutes from my house.

Thank you! Honestly, I couldn't tell you. It was so long ago I forgot. Pretty sure we just used a few test pieces/screws until we found the right combo.

With drifting aprons for real racing without magnets! Great layout. I bult a smaller 12x5 layout in my large kitchen, 4 lane HO. But at the time I built it I bought drifting aprons from a manufacturer. Can't remember the name sorry. I did everything to make each lane fun to drive. I also detailed my track with scenery, grandstands, a lake, rocky hills, trees, pit, paddock. I don't understand the magnet racing, or scale speeds of 800mph, cornering speeds of 200mph, not fun. Thanks for the tour, I really miss my racing set, it is gone forever, lost my job when the plant went out of business, and I moved. Now living in a small space with no hope for racing. We had racing nights once a week, fiends would come over and we had a blast, racing, laughing, jabbing each other with insults, and then at the end of the night...semi-truck racing with full length trailers.
That sounds a lot like my place! The smack talk is the most fun! Plus on occasion I will drag out the semi-trucks I have with trailers for the "Convoy Race"! Thank you for the comment!

Is the drag strip to scale how long is it because I know they're selling sets and they're only 13 ft long but I'm reading up and with it being to scale it's like 27 ft long how long is yours
My Drag Strip is not a Auto World drag strip, although we did use the Xmas Tree/lights from them. My drag strip is from Viper Scale Racing. Pretty sure when you buy it, it is sold as a scale 1/4 mile. Due to the size of my track, mine is JUST under 1/8th mile. It was so close we called it good. I used the extra pieces to set on the track so people could set the cars they are not using on them.

Great layout great table build, wow. I remember back in the day the Auto World (the ORIGINAL Auto World) "Oscar the Track Cleaner" truck that had a little reservoir for cleaning fluid with a slow feed fabric applicator in back and a track rail cleaning eraser in front. Worked like a charm.

The small Micro Scalextric cars with wire braids make great track cleaners
They always work without any hesitation and after doing a couple of laps with them the track is ready for the cars with pickups

Nice track you've got there, when we set up a track we usually make the AFX four lane Dayton with the centre road circuit from the book "The Slot Car Bible"
In the past we've used flat curves but have recently gotten all the banked corners needed but haven't tried them yet

that's awesome.... can you tell me how it's powered from underneath ?
We have 4 separate power taps throughout the track. We drilled small holes in the track right next to the rails, then soldered the wires to them. They routed all the wires back to the adjustable DC power supply I have under the track.

Awesome track. Good job on the functioning drag tree. I'm going to start building a 6 x 15 layout next year using AFX Speed-lok track from 1980s. Hoping to have 150' of connected track with ho train intersecting on a loop thru it.

@@tomsettles6873 Honestly, I have no experience with Speed Lock. I know what it is, just never handled it in person. I can tell you that a majority of the time the AFX/Tomy track has slightly better quality than the AW track. I had to mix a bit of AW in on my track but it is all 15 inch straights and we checked quality before screwing it down to the table.

What are breaks
Brakes, if you have a controller that is wired for brakes it slows the car down much faster.

Nice 😊 looks awesome just dusted mine off after 2 years of sitting … I will so a walk around of mine in a week or so … my track is 140 ft … independent lane reverse and brakes … my wiring is epic 11 power taps 😳… I installed terminal blocks in the middle of each 4x8 table (I have 4 of them) so installing power taps is easy to do if I need to add any

Thanks Johnny! I bought a cheap DC power supply with adjustable voltage. I can't remember the specs on it. Eventually I would like to get a separate one for the drag strip so I can run both tracks at the same time.
