His dialect is actually really strong for me. There are a lot of things he says that I cannot understand at first listen. That cheesy pickup line doesn’t sound so bad but you can tell it’s not standard Chinese.

I think the main reason is that the Sichuan dialect and Mandarin only differ in tones mostly (Chinese and its various dialects are tonal languages, unlike English) , but the syllables are almost identical. So to a native speaker of a toneless language, it can be difficult to pick up the differences in tones. To Chinese people, they sound very different. And in the video he wasn't speaking the Sichuan dialect, he was still speaking Mandarin but with extra Sichuan zest.
There was another interview few months ago where he was asked to compare his ideal girl and shen yue. In that interview she described shen yue as cool, straightforward, girl next door type.
