Fact: The Argentine and Uruguayan flag have the Sun Of May because the flag of the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata (Argentina + Uruguay) was designed by a Peruvian Mestizo to honor the amerindian ancestry of South America

When the Spaniards arrived they threatened to destroy the Inca's idol. "Who do you worship?", they asked the Inca.
    "The Sun" the Inca replied.
    The Spaniards dissapointedly said "Oh".
That same sun is represented in the Uruguayan and Argentinian flags. It is called El Sol De Mayo.
The Peruvian currency is El Sol.
El Sol is also incorporated into Peru's national anthem.
Final note, North American Natives also believed that the Sun and the Moon were dieties; it wasn't just South American Natives.

The Incas were such an incredible civilization. Absolutely fascinating how these people were advanced enough to have recorded heart surgery. The Inca trail connecting the empire and the use of mirrors to reflect sunlight for communication is just astounding. They were such an advanced group of people for the time period in so many aspects. It's unfortunate that their downfall was a result of primarily disease and to a lesser extent their lack of technology in weaponry, the only thing they were not advanced in.
Such an amazing civilization that should be remembered and taught in all history classes worldwide forever.

Cool video Mason! I'd like to add that in comparison to other empires, the Incas also had another disadvantage, geography. They had no major rivers, the landscapes were very mountainous and as most settlement were in the interior lands, maritime trade routes were useless. If you compare them to the Roman Empire, that spread from the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, it's pretty stunning what this guys achieved.

Was very fascinated when I went to Peru to learn that a lot of people outside the cities take great pride in their native heritage and refer to the old gods such as Pacha Mama before taking a drink in the evening, and a few of the ancient cities, such as Cusco, enjoy celebrations of Inti. Also how alive the Quecha language is in some places. I did my best to converse in Spanish with a resident of lake Titicaca, but alas both of us barely knew Spanish as she only really spoke Quecha.
Wonderfully kind people in Peru who were very keen to teach us about their history and culture.

Could you do the Amazonian civilization? For most of recent history, it was thought that the Amazon was a virgin pristine wilderness, but recent discoveries made due to the rapid deforestation of the Amazon, have begun to rewrite history. There is evidence of geoglyphs and mounds, evidence for causeways and buildings, and a black soil called terra preta made from organic waste, matter, and charcoal, that was used to fertilize the thin, nutrient lacking soil of the rainforest. Peru is so close to my heart My Norwegian Grandmother fled from the Nazis She found her husband and upon returning to Norway they decided it would not be the place to raise a family so they went back to america where my father was born and at 2 months old was put on a plane and together they flew to Peru working and living well of of the newly established fishing and canning industry put in by Starkist and in part my grandfathers mechanical engineering successfully living there until 1968 until the rise of nationalistic fervor under presidente Alvarado drove them out. It was a Sight to see my grandmother and her sons all talking in Norsk when they didnt want the children or there father to know what they were saying XD but thats not all! Then My grand father and father who were the only two to learn quechua as my grandmother didnt have the need since she knew spanish and my other uncles where too young; leaving the country both before 5 years old, as to where my father was in his teens. So when they wanted to talk in secret they would speak quechua and my grandmother would try to listen to the few que words she did know, to give her hint as to what they were saying. Oh Lord it was hilarious the linguistic chess matches i would hear from that long linoleum kitchen in San Pedro Ca my poor grand mother in her little scandanavian accent trying to switch the conversation "nooo nooo nooo" trying to get them to talk in spanish or Norsk so she knew what was going on that was a constant of my childhood, Norwegian culture and Peruvian culture were so prevelant in that household sadly its mostly been lost in all of my families homes except mine :) I have my grandfathers norsk lusekofte and my fathers knitt alpaca sweater he wore on the plane back to america as well as many more things but those two make me happy beyond belief. • @Worldtravelerr78
      @Worldtravelerr78 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Red Ice Hispanic means you speak the Spanish language. Latino means you are from Latin America. However, Latin America has White, Black, Mestizo, Mulato, and AmerIndian for Race. Mestizos are a mix of European and AmerIndian, so the more European blood you have, the whiter you will appear. There were also many different European colonies here, including German, so South America does not look brown like Mexico.

A lot of the Quechua discrimination came from the caste system of the colonization, but the discrimination was hightened after the independization from Spain. Because at least when we where colonies Spain had government entities that looked after the indigenous people's well being, and even some of them where nobles as the Spanish crown recognized the inca nobility as royalty. But when Peru became a republic, it all went away and the natives didn't had these protections anymore. So the criollos would abuse them as they pleased. It al changed in the early 1970's when the Dictatorship of Velasco exproriated the landlords of the criollos and gave it to the native people's once again. The balance of power was restored in this country

The majority or the Peruvian and Bolivian genomes are still Amerindian (as you mentioned). In addition though, many people in those countries still speak Quechua and Aymara, and practice many native traditions (many still worship native deities, etc). Native languages (mostly Quechua and Aymara) are spoken by large percentages of the population in Bolivia (43%) and a large part of Peru (esp. south Peru/the south-central Peru Andes where the Quechua were historically based and where a majority speaks Quechua today), and somewhat in parts of neighboring countries (and, as you mentioned, by about ten million people overall in the case of Quechua-and more than one million in the case of Aymara).

That's pretty common (in many regions). The genome of Mexico is actually overall a bit more Amerindian than European (the video was wrong about that). Mexican Mestizos average about 55-60% Amerindian (less in the north, more in the south). The south and south central regions tend to be more native and the north more white. The majority of Mexicans are some kind of mestizo (in varying proportions of European vs Amerindian) and about 15-25% are full Native Indian (and identify as such), also with a small percent being fully European or nearly so (which is more common in northern Mexico).
In Mexico as a whole, only about 10% speak native languages, but in the more Amerindian south (and some central) regions/states of the country, many more speak them. Many in south (and south central) Mexico speak native languages (like Mixtec, Zapotec, Nahuatl, Otomi, and Mayan): about 35-40% of the population in the state of Oaxaca, about 39% in Chiapas, 44% in Yucatan, 32% in Quintana Roo, 28% in Puebla, 20% in Guerrero. About 35% speak native languages in Guatemala (mostly Mayan dialects).
Search "THE LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY OF MEXICO" By John P. Schmal or ("History of Mexico - Linguistic Diversity of Mexico" (which is the same page) (at houstonculture)
      and search:
"History of Mexico - Nahuatl Language - Houston Institute for Culture" (at houstonculture)
      see: the Wikipedia for "Nahuatl"
From Wikipedia's entry on "Mestizos in Mexico" under "autosomal studies":
"A study made by the University College London which included the countries of Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Brazil, and was made with collaboration of each countries' antrophology and genetics institutes reported the genetic ancestry of Mexican Mestizos was 56% Native American, 37% European and 5% African making Mexico, after Peru, the country with the highest Amerindian ancestry out of the five sample populations. "
"In 2011, an autosomal dna study was conducted in Mexico city, with 1,310 samples, showing the average proportion of Native American, European, and African ancestry for the population to be 64%, 32%, and 4% respectively. Additional autosomal dna studies conducted on people from Mexico city show a predominate Native American background, with Native American ancestry ranging from 61-69% in 5 different studies. The number of people sampled in these studies ranged from 66 to 984 people.[45][46][47][48][49] One outlier study showed a predominate European background for mestizos of Mexico City, showing 57% European ancestry, 40% Native American ancestry, and 3% African ancestry. The sample population for this study however, was only 19 people."

Most of these Indians live in recondite mountain valleys, or in the very high altitude páramos. They were neglected for very long, which came as a blessing because it meant they got to preserve their culture.

The Maya and Zapotec scripts are the most well most known, and there was other systems found along the gulf coast of Veracruz. The Inca may have not had a “writing system” as defined in western context but they had quipu which functioned as a way to record information of the nobility.

There was writing before the 1400's in the America's. The Mayans and the Aztecs had written language and there have been artifacts in North America marked with an indecipherable language of unknown origin. Maybe Mississippian or Hopewell or some other as yet unnamed tribe. It's just what they wrote wasn't histories. It was myths and lineages and achievements of the kings.

They knew the other existed, but they never had direct contact. The central American natives traded with both the Incas and the Mayans, so the Incas were able to obtain Mayan artifacts. I remember reading that they found Mayan pottery (I believe, I'm not sure if was that, or a metallic artifact) in the northern Inca Empire, which served as proof that there were trade routes between the civilizations. Since some people don't seem to get the joke:
"Nan" (rhymes with "pan") is British slang for "grandmother".
The Spanish name "Hernan" is not pronounced like "her nan" (some lady's grandmother). It's more like "air" that you breath plus "naan" the Indian bread.
So Mason here saying "her nan Cortez" prompts me to ask "whose nan Cortez"?
Not "who's" = "who is". "Whose", as in, "to whom is this Cortez person a nan?" Who is the "her" that has a nan named Cortez? Some British lady, with a Spanish grandma?
And now, like a frog, dissection has killed this joke.

There is a big mistake here, Tupac Amaru II was never an Inca, in fact one of the many reasons he revolted was so the Spanish could recognize this title as the indigenous nobility from Cuzco didn't recognize him. Also, under the Translatio Imperii, the Spanish King is also an Inca.
