  • It has been several years now since Noah purchased this guitar and I was asked about doing an update video on it. So here is the video and how we feel about this guitar, now that we have had a chance to put some (many..lol..) play time/hours on it.

Randy, of TH-cam's Randy's Rhythm, has a video out that explains what Epiphone is doing with their "Inspired by Gibson" and Masterbilt line of guitars. They are moving some of them to the China plant and not telling us. You may want to watch his video explaining this and how to tell where your Epiphone guitar was built. Here is the link to that video:

Yes it does. Noah was just talking about getting rid of a few of his guitars. But this one is one that he will keep..lol .. He loves it.

I will be sure to tell him. Thank you. He plays a lot less, now that he works, but playing guitar is still one of his favorite things to do.

Nice video and you definitely won the lottery with this one. That maple is just stunning and the real mother of pearl inlays are such a nice touch. I'm happy Epiphone did and continues to do that on more models ( including on my Epiphone Excellente :) )
I have played two Gibson SJ-200's recently and I must say that the Epi IBG J200 doesn't even come close to the sound of the Gibsons, which is such a shame because on paper you would say that the Epi (apart from the fingerboard/bridge) and Gibson are the exact same guitars.
Doesn't mean that the Epiphones are bad sounding but they sound veeery different.

I tried to convey that point in the video too, that they just don't sound exactly like Gibson's J200. Not worse, just not the same. I am not a fan of the Gibson J-200 and it's sound. I never was. That didn't mean I didn't like Gibson guitars but rather I didn't care for the sound of the J-200. When we got the IBG J-200 I couldn't believe how much I like the sound. Thanks much for watching and for the comment, I do appreciate it.

Hey my friend, thanks for the update. So, here's a word for the day: "Chatoyancy" is the shimmering effect you see in that beautiful maple back. Also, just and FYI, Gibson has discontinued this line, at least within the Indonesia factory. So who knows - maybe you have an Epiphone that will appreciate in value over time. I'm glad you and Noah are getting such pleasure from it! I had one, sold it, but am considering getting another.

Before pulling the trigger on that purchase, check the serial numbers. They are moving some of the "Inspired by Gibson" line to China. I've already seen some with the China number code in the serial number.

I heard you play some licks in here that I didn’t think the stroke brain would allow! David, you may not get back to where you were, but that really caught my ear. Great review on this beast of a guitar and it was also good to see Noah picking and grinning, brother man 👍🏻

There is a comment, by @christianm624, as to the sound difference between this guitar and the Hummingbird. If you get time, could you answer his question? You are the one to answer that one. Thanks my friend.

    First!
Looking forward to hearing your report. :)
I have to say MOST of this model's examples look pretty shitty.
Yours is the MOST beautiful piece. Absolutely STUNNING maple, premium material. Other examples of this model are much simpler.
Yours also has proper toner color, without ridiculous orange/green tint, and your bridge+fretboard is also MUCH more beautiful than typical Indian Laurel from Epiphone.
I have a couple of reviews of lovely J-200 copies from Sigma on my channel.
Would love if you checked them out, I record them for geeks like you and me!😁

I agree with thickness of the wood. Kind of ruins it for me tbh. I really like strumming big chords on it but when it comes to fingerpicking it doesnt have enough bass or dynamics with the light touch. I feel this is due to the thickness and weight of the guitar

@@TheLastFraudster I am intrested to try the new one, as it apparently has scalloed bracing and an “aged” top. Not really expecting much difference though

      Hey its me again,
do you think this J200 would suit better to ''Bob Dylan sound'' than a Hummingbird?
(in that price case of course the inspired by gibson one)

I've not had the chance to try the Hummingbird yet. So I really couldn't answer that. My friend Randy, of TH-cam's Randy's Rhythm, dose have this guitar though. So I am going to have him look at this question and maybe answer it for you.
