  • Somalatha Subasinghe (sometimes spelled Somalatha Subasinghe-Wijesiriwardena) was a renowned Sri Lankan actress and filmmaker. She was born on January 28, 1945, in Sri Lanka, and passed away on November 9, 2011.
    Subasinghe began her career as an actress in the 1960s, and went on to act in numerous stage plays, television dramas, and films. She was also involved in the production of several films, including "Ganga Addara," which was directed by her husband, Sumitra Peries.
    Subasinghe was a prominent figure in Sri Lankan cinema and was recognized for her contributions to the industry with numerous awards, including the Sri Lankan President's Award for Best Actress in 1975 and the Sarasaviya Best Actress Award in 1977.
    In addition to her work in acting and filmmaking, Subasinghe was also a dedicated social worker and was involved in various charitable organizations, including the Sri Lanka Cancer Society and the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association.
    Subasinghe's legacy in Sri Lankan cinema and society is significant, and she continues to be remembered as a trailblazer and a role model for aspiring actors and filmmakers.
