I too picked up a Blond Tone Master a few days ago. Excellent for my home practice rig. I can leave it on forever without wearing out the tubes. I don't play it loud at home and it sounds just like my regular Deluxe Reverb. Very happy.

For me, the 50s Vintera tele is dollar for dollar an outstanding Tele if you like vintage specs. I play mine as often as I play my Custom Shop Esquire.
Agreed!! Also, I’ve always been a tele guy, but I decided to get the vintera road worn 50’s strat… and it’s AMAZING. Pretty much a tele with a middle pickup for me 😂
I have the older Classic Series '60s Tele, and just played a Custom Stop Jimmy Page Tele, a week or two before I bought the Mexican Tele. Personally, I like the neck shape better on the '60s Tele. I did change out the pickups to the Fender USA '64 Tele Pickups.
Hi there Zac, Great channel. Re Princeton: there wasn’t quite enough gig volume with my 68 reissue,so I’ve put an Eminence red fang in,and it’s easily as loud as I’ll ever need,fantastic!
Hey Zac, have you had a look at the Roland Blues Cube range? I found them a little strange to start with but have tried and bought the 2x12 Artist and the 1x12 Artist. Very weird to start with but I found that the controls actually work - I have got through all the tone capsules and realised that the best one was to use none or the Skunk Baxter clean capsule. Really interesting amp. Guthrie Trapp is such a great teacher and humble human being, just like you! Big love.
The Blackguards and the later 50's Telecasters are really two different beasts in my mind. A good Blackguard is more aggressive, more rock and roll to me, where as the later 50's models have more of the Bakersfield twang that I love.
That lead pickup change around ‘55 with the raised pole pieces changed the sound as well as the saddles. They also switched woods depending on the color from ash to alder.

The black deluxe reverb tonemaster can be updated with the same firmware that comes with the blonde one. It gets rid of the bright cap sound. Then the only difference in the black & blonde is the speaker.
Its so nice to be able to reach over and grab a Telecaster! Love the Q and A a regular once in a while sounds like a good idea.Im lucky enough to have a real Vintage music store here in St.Louis (Killer Vintage) Love going by there and playing different Telecasters!

With my Partscaster Tele I intentionally made it look like a 56 or 57 White Guard Tele, but it has the Fender '52 Reissue Pickups in it. I love the look of the late 50s Teles.
Monthly QA is a great idea. What is your opinion on Tele Customs, Deluxe and Tele Thinline or are those not considered truly Telecasters in your opinion.
Nice section on Guthrie Trapp and your soloing. Carol Kaye always says that jazz musicians solo over the chords, i.e., purposefully, as you said. I also remember seeing a clinic with Jim Hall at the University of North Texas. He invited on of the students, a very good tenor sax player up on stage to play with him. After a few minutes Jim stopped and said, “I really like the way you suggest the chords for me with the notes you play.” Big difference between that and just noodling. .

I have a 65 Vox AC15; it has seven tubes plus a tube rectifier, and a gold-label Bulldog speaker. A friend has a 63 with a Bulldog speaker. In fact, all the early to mid-sixties Vox amps I've seen have Bulldog speakers, with the gold label. For some reason, most sites dealing with Vox amps never mention the Bulldog speakers (as in my picture).
Fun ep! I like Weber’s version of the C10Q in old black/silver Princetons. The original speakers in these amps, often low-end CTSes, tend to be weak sounding.

Heyo Zac... Yea, master Trapp is great and obviously a sweet guy as well. My Baja Tele is a black guard but since I put on a pale 'mint green' scratch plate I've never looked back... I wanna put a 12" in me Princeton but I've mixed feelings about swapping the baffle... It's prolly just G.A.S. Cheerios (not the cereal)
Tele thickness differences: I have a 2006 Highway One Tele that's 1 3/4" thick and a Chinese made Squier Tele that's just over 1 1/2" thick. The Squier is lighter by about a pound (seven pounds total). They no doubt shaved off the quarter inch to save money by using less wood. The body is also three, maybe four pieces of wood in total. I know there may be some Telecaster aficionados out there who are clutching their pearls about the Chinese made Squier, but I needed a knock-around inexpensive guitar for the office and, shockingly, it's a fun guitar to play! Great show, I love the Q & A idea.
I had went back and forth between a silver face 68 Princeton 10 inch speaker, 64/65 black face with a 10 inch, and a black face 64/65 special edition with 12 inch Jenson, got the 64/65 special edition one and tone wise was superior to me than the 10 inch speaker other ones. I agree with you Zack, low string twangy licks on the 10 inch just caves.

I Started as a Strat Guy, moved towards Les Paul's happily, but somehow Telecaster always seemed to Fit better, play better and easier and stumbled on a Telecaster Prototype by a well known Luthier who worked for Taylor & Alembic and now has Jasper guitars in Green Bay. After playing his T-35 prototype semi hollow body it might replace the LP and Strat as my #1 because of how it Looks, Sounds and PLAYS
So Zac , I would like to hear your thoughts on head and cabinet set ups vs. combo amps.I generally gravitate to combos ,have an AC30C2 and a Deluxe Reverb reissue but a head and cab really looks cool.I had a solid state Fender stage 100 with a 4 x10 cabinet configuration that I traded to the underground Bing studio in Columbia S.C.I currently have a Kustom upholstered head and two Column 4x10 upholstered Kustom speakers .just wondering what your thoughts are as someone who's opinion is based on knowledge experience and facts.
Yo zac I baught a Mexican standard tele swapped out the pickups with mojotone clone broadcaster pickups and swapped out the t-saddles and plate for brass saddle and plate made by armadillo in Texas .In my opinion the plate is optional but helps the guitar sing slightly better unfortunately the plate does ad a bit of weight. However for way under a 1000 dollars you can have an awesome telecaster. Btw Duncan broadcaster and the 54 pickups also sound very good they have a more Keith Richards sound to them also worth mentioning the mojotone clone52 pickups sound dead on classic tele.

I wonder if a removable back plate on the back of the Princeton would give the desired tonal changes. It wouldn’t eliminate all the twang, but it would clean up the attack and maybe make it a little punchier. It might not be original, but it wouldn’t be hard to measure and make as a DIY project. I’d also love to see you review the new Quilter Superblock US, with the ability to switch between the brownface and blackface sounds.

I always wonder if its worth sending my telecaster to get chambered? is this done often, and if you got it REALLY chambered, would it affect tone much?

Hi Zac, I have some questions regarding the Glaser string bender system for your next Q & A. Firstly, I play almost exclusively sitting down. Is the system adaptable to playing while seated? I saw you playing that way in a video, but is it a pain in the butt to pull off those bends while seated? Also, I own a 1974 CBS-era Telecaster, but there is no way in hell I'm having surgery performed on him. He means way too much to me. So I thought I could purchase a decent telecaster at a music store and then get the system installed on a guitar that I'm not too attached to. My question is this, being a Canadian, what would be the best way to go about that? Would I have to get the neck taken off here in Canada and then ship the body to the States? Is that even an option? Thanks, I dig your videos and frequently check out your listening suggestions.
It’s easy to use the bender sitting down you just want to you set it for a short throw. It can be set for long, medium or short throw and you can set the tension. it works very well while you’re seated. I would get a less expensive non-vintage guitar may be a road worn or some other Guitar that’s a little less expensive to put a Bender in and yes you can send just the body to him and then you can have someone put the neck back on in Canada

Great video as always! I see a common mod for Princeton's is to swap in a Deluxe Reverb Power Transformer. Do you know what the advantage of this is? Does this increase the wattage of the Princeton?

The thing I like about Guthrie is that his approach is broad enough that it applies across multiple genres.
The pickguard on the 67 is a 3 ply, giving an illusion of it being a larger guitar.

The Les Paul Studio body is not as thick as the others. With Teles different necks, woods, pickups I say get one of each.

Original Jazzmaster bodies are thinner than later ones. I would buy an Affinity Tele to get the thinner body, Affinities are thinner too.

The amp has a single tone control that is a cut, and I set it pretty high, as it is a bright amp.

Head and cabs are better for the life of the tubes. Less vibration. I like the setup, but hate have more pieces.

Thank you for correcting yourself on the fender F logo that it’s not a backwards F it is a Krysta fifth it’s been that way for a long time I guess people it’s easier for them to see that it looks like a backwards F but thank you so much for correcting that it was bugging me up a while and you Zack being you I really thought you knew that already and was just trying to be kind to those new beginners into the fender telecaster series but anyways laugh out loud thanks again love the work love the channel teles are my favorite

I wonder if a removable back plate on the back of the Princeton would give the desired tonal changes. It wouldn’t eliminate all the twang, but it would clean up the attack and maybe make it a little punchier. It might not be original, but it wouldn’t be hard to measure and make as a DIY project.
I’d also love to see you review the new Quilter Superblock US, with the ability to switch between the brownface and blackface sounds.

Speaking of Princetons, what size speaker does Kenny Vaughan use? I've never heard anybody get so many great tones out of a Princeton like he does.
I don’t know the answer to this but I am curious about it myself. Kenny is an Eminence artist.

Kenny has a 10" Celestion gold in his main Princeton. He has another that has a 12" in it.

I love Princeton's but it seems that they are so thin in the midrange. The Celestion Green Back might be a great answer for that.
I put a Celestion alnico blue in mine and to me it made it sound a lot better, it brings out the mids better.

I have some questions regarding the Glaser string bender system for your next Q & A.
Firstly, I play almost exclusively sitting down. Is the system adaptable to playing while seated? I saw you playing that way in a video, but is it a pain in the butt to pull off those bends while seated?
Also, I own a 1974 CBS-era Telecaster, but there is no way in hell I'm having surgery performed on him. He means way too much to me. So I thought I could purchase a decent telecaster at a music store and then get the system installed on a guitar that I'm not too attached to. My question is this, being a Canadian, what would be the best way to go about that? Would I have to get the neck taken off here in Canada and then ship the body to the States? Is that even an option?

It’s easy to use the bender sitting down you just want to you set it for a short throw. It can be set for long, medium or short throw and you can set the tension. it works very well while you’re seated. I would get a less expensive non-vintage guitar may be a road worn or some other Guitar that’s a little less expensive to put a Bender in and yes you can send just the body to him and then you can have someone put the neck back on in Canada
Hey Zac, I wanted to know your opinion about the American Pro I series, do you think it would work well to play funk. Does the V mod pups stray too far from this vintage sound?
I have not played them yet. I did play a Jazzmaster from that series, and it was great.

Great video as always! I see a common mod for Princeton's is to swap in a Deluxe Reverb Power Transformer. Do you know what the advantage of this is? Does this increase the wattage of the Princeton?
It does, and gives it a wider sound.

Strat solid body. 7.25 Malibu neck. Need a bridge like the one on your Tele that loads the string through the top and will match the 7.25 raidus neck

Not with a full band. There is a live feed of me playing as a duo, and maybe some old clips of me playing on the Opry with Paisley. I am going to try and film some future shows.
