The Album prior to Empire was Operation: Mindcrime. The album was a concept album, sort of a rock opera where the entire album tells a long-form story of politics, violence and corruption that is hauntingly resonant to this day. I would LOVE to see you do a full multi-part reaction to the entire album. It's one of the greatest metal albums of the era, and possibly all time.
Yes. I would love to see you react to the full mindcrime album. It is epic in many ways. The story telling, the music, and the singing. No breaks between songs really just one continuous story.
At least you should be able to spell your favorite MUST listen song correctly! my god...there is always a possibility to correct your youtube comments to give people who are new to this channel or the band a chance to find what they are looking for after reading your comment.
Evey time someone I know says that Queensryche sucks, I have to argue with them. You might not like them, but they're all really talented musicians, so they do not suck.
Queens - REICH or REIK is easier to pronouce. This band was ahead of its time expecially with the Warning and Operation Mindcrime, which applies to 2020.
Queensryche is intelligent rock. Their sound is perfection and their message is always on point. Is Anybody Listening of this same albulm is one of my favorites.
Hey it's the 78 year old grandma, this is my favorite band of all time, the lead singer Geoff Tate is so great. He doesn't show off his wondaful vocals in this song as he does in songs like, Take hold of the flame, Road to madness, and No sanctuary . The name Queensryche is pronounced like it ends with a k. or Queensryke.
Take Hold of the Flame really shows off Geoff''s range, tone, phrasing, power, expression... You name it, his voice just rings! The band is really tight and Scott was burning up the drums! And this was right BEFORE the release of their FIRST album! The EP was out, but they were at the beginning of their careers! My ALL TIME favorite band for over three decades! Welll worth your time. So diverse and intense! (I find it hard to use periods when I speak of QR)
One of my all time favorite bands EVER. The lead singer was classically trained in opera as a child. His voice is always mesmerizing but some of the other songs will astound you with his range and ability. You should take a listen to them in order, they tell an amazing story, in rock opera form.
Geoff is my favorite all time singer. I saw him last year, I saw him this Sep on my birthday and met him and will see him again in January Cannot get enough of this God's voice.
Queensryche came from Seattle in the 80's before Nirvana... this was from the 1990 album 'Empire', which became their biggest-selling record w/ the ballad 'Silent lucidity' becoming 1 of 6 singles & videos... 'Best I can' ... 'Jet city woman' ... 'Another rainy night' ... 'Anybody listening?' ...and 'Empire' 🔥🤘
With Best I Can probably their most underrated single out of that album, or entire career, I don't know, and being one of my favourite songs from them. Operation mindcrime obviously out of every discussion. Please forgive bad english, I'm from Italy.
I worked at a CD plant we had every molding machine making this cd all weekend it was awesome. ran a stamper out and replaced with another one. I loved it
MrLboyd! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for giving Queensryche some of your reaction time! Bravo! I knew you'd dig it! Imo they've never received the attention they deserved for all of their incredible talent! "Silent Lucidity" should definitely be one of their next cuts for you to check out! Stay safe! Peace & love!
As many have said, the album "Operation Mindcrime" is fantastic. My favorite off of that might be "Suite Sister Mary", but "I Don't Believe in Love" and "Eyes of a Stranger" were the hits and are well worth checking out.
They were not your typical heavy rock band. That touched on many emotions and genres. Check out the song OUT OF MIND about people in mental institutions. Heartbreaking melancholy.
My personal favorite from them is Silent Lucidity. My daughter's mother made a beautiful video collage with the song, full of pictures of me from childhood up and when the lyrics "the dream is over... or has it just begun" played, the picture of me faded to one of my daughter, the similarities between us striking and unmistakable. I still cry when I watch that video.
You should react to their most known song, Silent Lucidity. It's a totally different vibe than Empire. After watching most of your reactions, I know you will be intrigued by the lyrics.
A wonderful band with Geoff Tate, one of the best vocalists in rock when he was at his peak. May I suggest Eyes of a Stranger from their seminal album Operation: Mindcrime and also Take Hold of the Flame (live 1984). Brilliant, each.
Oh man there is so much from this band that you have to listen to. Basically the first four albums are excellent . I am gonna suggest my personal favorite " Take hold of the flame " live in Tokyo 1984 version .
As intellectual as you are, it’s a must for you to listen to their album Operation: Mindcrime. A linear story from beginning to end and in my opinion one of the greatest albums EVER 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻
This album was released in 1990, so it would have probably been produced in the end of the 80s (your reference that it sounds like from the 80s...). Somebody once told me a long time ago that for him Peter Gabriel could sing to him the names of a telephone book, and it would be great, because Peter Gabriel has such a great voice. i conquer, but i have to say the same about Geoff Tate. His voice is simply a really, really great voice.
Back in November 2022 me and my uncle daw Queensryche and Judas Priest perform live in Baton Rouge, LA. That was the first actual concert I attended and it DID NOT disappoint 🤘
IF you can't do all of Mindcrime.. the one song on it that will blow the back of your head off is "Spreading the Disease"... when you listen to it keep in mind the album came out in 1988. Trust me on this one.
Anything off Empire, Operation: Mindcrime or Rage for Order is amazing although I agree with others that Mindcrime is an album that should be listened to in one sitting. It's one of the best concept albums ever made. They even released both a music vide version (Video: Mindcrime) and a concert video (Operation: Livecrime) around the same time.
ALSO " The Killing Words" from Unplugged. Especially the part right after the guitar solo. Geoff sings it a little differently from the studio version, and it's killer!! ALL the guys are fantastic live!
Been a Queensrÿche fan since they started, excellent band at this time of the band. Geoff is the GOAT in the metal voice world, he’s 65 and still sounds pretty amazing to me. Take hold of the flame is about as epic as it gets.
This band were WAY ahead of there time. Operation Mindcrime was the album before this one and I suggest you check that out. One continuous story. Great reaction
This is the first reaction to this tune I have watched where the listener tried to break down the philosophy and societal implications conveyed by the lyrics. Great stuff - keep it up!
Geoff Tate (singer) & Chris DeGarmo (guitar) were one of this magical music writing combo’s that only come around every so often. They were Queensryche !
I was not familiar with Queensryche before this song. Ah, but when I heard this, I was hooked. And then, with Silent Lucidity, I knew I was reeled in. After that, I went back into their catalog and got to know the band better. Yes, they are a product of their time; they are most assuredly an 80s band. But unlike so many of their contemporaries, they wrote lyrics with substance and that is what keeps them fresh, even after all these years. They are as good now as they were then.
There is no such thing as a bad Queensryche song. For great examples of his insane range, you NEED to hear the live version of Take Hold of the Flame as others have already suggested. Also, a great B-side song is their cover of Simon & Garfunkle's Scarborough Fair. The acoustic version is really cool too, but the original from that B-Side is amazing. Meanwhile, I'm super psyched that you listened to this and huge kudos to whomever suggested it!! Thanks for the reaction!!
To Mrboyd Queensryche is my most beloved group ever ,The two Songs that display their talent is Resistence and waliking in the Shadows ,The Chemisty they had and how they played their musical Instruments the high.intensity of energy flowed off the Stage.Theur album Mind Crime was anotger good album they made with Eyes of a stranger. But one or two of their Songs was pulled from the Goverment from being played on the radio and Banded from the Airways .Because those Songs talked about the Government but thats sad it first Ammendment rights being taken away from that group ,Queensryche is my most Favourite Metal group of mine by far your a good man Mrbiyd
Geoff Tate (Queensryche) and Mike Patton (Faith no More) are probably 2 of the best rock/metal vocalists. It's a shame they don't get the recognition they deserve.
Every other reaction site does "Take hold of the Flame", it shows the range of the lead singer, Geoff Tate, which is the single best live performance ever. BTW its the live version in Tokyo. Hope it helps.
This was the first cassette I bought with my own money. I loved it and am glad you got to experience it, too. Be sure to check out "Anybody Listening" from the same album. The album Empire was their least metal album at the time. Instead it was a very introspective album. The messages of the songs came from current events as well as from their own lives. It was Queensryche’s biggest seller and a great album.
Not the Queensryche (KWEENZ rike) song I would have chosen for the first reaction. May I suggest one or more of the following: "Eyes of a Stranger", "Silent Lucidity" (both relatively mild,) "The Lady Wore Black" or "Take Hold of the Flame" (both more classic metal.)
Check out "Revolution Calling" from their previous album, Operation Mindcrime. Some of the references may be a little dated, but the message of the song is remarkably relevant to today. Lyrics sample "I used to think That only America's way, way was right But now the holy dollar rules everybody's lives Gotta make a million, doesn't matter who dies"
JUST want to say I thoroughly appreciate your thoughtful, smart and on-point reaction to this song. There are, as you can see below, many more in the Queensryche canon. Enjoy and I will now look for more of you reactions. Take a look at one of the ALL TIME live performances on Unplugged -- "Black" by Pearl Jam. Historic. Be Well.

Their best work, IMHO. And that's saying a lot.
I’ve seen Queensrÿche multiple times with Geoff Tate back in the day…still one of the greatest bands I’ve ever seen live.
@@ericatchison4999 I saw them once at a small venue when I was a teenager. I didn't know them well enough to appreciate it at the time.
This song doesn’t even come close to showing you how great a voice he truly has. And this song is amazing
Queensryche "Take hold of the flame " live in Tokyo this is a MUST listen for any Queensryche fan..
TOTALLY agree, Stonewing!!
At least you should be able to spell your favorite MUST listen song correctly!
my god...there is always a possibility to correct your youtube comments to give people who are new to this channel or the band a chance to find what they are looking for after reading your comment.
I came here to suggest that very song. He'd be blown away by "Take Hold." Haven't seen a reactioner yet who wasn't.
It's a must BLARE!
Agree completely.
Geoff Tate’s stunning range on full display!!!
More Queensryche, one of my favorite bands. Operation Mindcrime is one of the best albums ever.
👍
It is.

He's got an AK-47 for a best friend, business the American way (deep in the shadow levels).
“Silent Lucidity”is a beautiful and moving song. I highly recommend it and will enjoy your reaction 👍
+1 to Silent Lucidity
Definitely agree highly. Also Another Lonely Night.
Queensryche is intelligent rock. Their sound is perfection and their message is always on point. Is Anybody Listening of this same albulm is one of my favorites.
HELL YES! "Anybody Listening" is one of their best. I also don't know if anyone has reacted to it.

Love you Grandma!!
the solo is a guy quoting budget expenditure's for america ..brilliant!!
You need to see the video "Take Hold of the Flame" performed live in Tokyo...that is all........
Move this comment straight to the top!!!
Take Hold of the Flame really shows off Geoff''s range, tone, phrasing, power, expression... You name it, his voice just rings! The band is really tight and Scott was burning up the drums! Ah yes, one of my favorite bands. I do enjoy the slightly calmer song "Jet City Woman"
Welcome to greatness! Queensryche is a top notch lyrical band!❤ "Silent Lucidity" is an absolute must reaction!
These guys are so underrated
I worked at a CD plant we had every molding machine making this cd all weekend it was awesome. ran a stamper out and replaced with another one. I loved it

As many have said, the album "Operation Mindcrime" is fantastic. My favorite off of that might be "Suite Sister Mary", but "I Don't Believe in Love" and "Eyes of a Stranger" were the hits and are well worth checking out.
“Speak” is my fave from that album. And probably my favorite song from them.

Everyone listening to Queensryche for the first time, "This is different." "His voice is amazing."
You should react to their most known song, Silent Lucidity. It's a totally different vibe than Empire. After watching most of your reactions, I know you will be intrigued by the lyrics.

Oh man there is so much from this band that you have to listen to. Basically the first four albums are excellent . I am gonna suggest my personal favorite " Take hold of the flame " live in Tokyo 1984 version .
pronounced like Queens-rike, awesome band!
They got their name from one of their earliest songs, "Queen of the Reich." They misspelled Reich to make sure no one would think they were neo-Nazis.
As intellectual as you are, it’s a must for you to listen to their album Operation: Mindcrime. A linear story from beginning to end and in my opinion one of the greatest albums EVER 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻
I love silent lucidity by these guys...youll enjoy that one.. It really showcases his voice
Queensrÿche just put awesome albums . Back to back to back..etc. Amazing band 👌
Great reaction
I LOVE that you always actually UNDERSTAND what the damned songs are ABOUT!!! 💯💯💯💯
You should listen to the full empire album absolute Master work of music
This album was released in 1990, so it would have probably been produced in the end of the 80s (your reference that it sounds like from the 80s...). Geoff tate has a amazing voice he sounds just as amazing live love his music

Warning????
queensryche silent lucidity best song by them
Just saw him 2 weeks ago at Antone's in Austin, TX. It was the Empire, 30th Anniversary +.
I saw them on this tour. They played the entire OPERATION MINDCRIME album from front to back. Amazing!
If you haven't done Take Hold of The Flame, live from Tokyo. You have to see it
Queensryche is the thinking mans metal.....
The lyrics to this song are even more relevant today. This was my favorite band back in the day.
Jet City Women and I don't Believe in Love.. are a must !! Love your channel
their album Rage for Order is a must listen.
If you think his voice sounds good on this track you should listen to the band unplugged. "I WILL REMEMBER " UNPLUGGED
I love his voice on their version of Scarborough Faire too
ALSO " The Killing Words" from Unplugged. Especially the part right after the guitar solo. Geoff sings it a little differently from the studio version, and it's killer!! ALL the guys are fantastic live!

catching this a couple years later, and i smile. Welcome to the thinking mans rock n roll band. Love your stuff!

Love this song, it brings me back to early childhood and it spoke to me because I grew up in the ghetto
Highly recommend I Don't Believe in Love!
Next sould be Take hold of the Flame live in Tokyo. Shows his range.
Silent Lucidity is beautiful. Another must!
Tate and DeGarmo work well together
I feel so grateful to have seen them perform live in the 90s. So damn good🤩
I seen them on this tour, what an amazing show they did Operation mind crime in it’s entirety. Check out suit sister Mary from mind crime amazing song
Silent lucidity is a great song of theirs also. They are a band from the 90's.
There is no such thing as a bad Queensryche song. For great examples of his insane range, you NEED to hear the live version of Take Hold of the Flame as others have already suggested. Full-on resonate with YOUR comments alongside the song. Excellent stuffstance.
I always loved the layers to this song. It was one of my first cds I ever bought.

Just started listening, and I LOVE how smart you are. I fucking love listening to smart people :)
I remember in '03 rolling past an Abrams tanks on the highway to Baghdad blaring this song...
One of my favorite bands
Great reaction, this album was a masterpiece too. This song still holds true today.. Thanks 🙏 for reviewing this
I love Queensryche! First song I ever heard from them was “Silent Lucidity”. I was 20 in 1986 in Reno, Nevada. Maybe it was 89?.
Love this song. Thank You for reacting to it.
Check out the lady wore black, London, and Queen of the Ryche. Great songs, so different.
My absolute favorite album of all time!
The album "rage for order" is my favorite of theirs.
Great Band...one of my favorites of theirs RAGE FOR ORDER....I will remember and on another album 'Bridge' *about his relationship with his Dad.
Always appreciate your perspective. ✌🏼
The vocalist (Geoff Tate)…..Take Hold of the Flame live in Japan….if you want a feel for his true vocal range….
In a somewhat different direction, you must check out "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour, which came out at the same time. It is absolutely awesome and a bit more metal, but with some spicy funk.
OPERATION MINDCRIME IS A MUST! 🤟🔥
I'm late to this video but Queensryche was my favorite band in the 80's. Like others mentioned, Operation Mindcrime is a true journey. Geoff Tate's vocals just fit.
The album Empire was their least metal album at the time. Instead it was a very introspective album. The messages of the songs came from current events as well as from their own lives. It was Queensryche’s biggest seller and a great album.
Did a senior paper on this song, about storytelling in art in HS. Great song.
The album is amazing. May I recommend that you listen to it cover to cover, as it tells an incredible story.
Flashbacks to when my dad played this album on road trips when I was a kid
Geoff Tates voice has an amazing range
Not the Queensryche (KWEENZ rike) song I would have chosen for the first reaction.
May I suggest one or more of the following: "Eyes of a Stranger", "Silent Lucidity" (both relatively mild,) "The Lady Wore Black" or "Take Hold of the Flame" (both more classic metal.)
Check out "Revolution Calling" from their previous album, Operation Mindcrime. Some of the references may be a little dated, but the message of the song is remarkably relevant to today.
Lyrics sample
"I used to think
That only America's way, way was right
But now the holy dollar rules everybody's lives
Gotta make a million, doesn't matter who dies"
Anything off mindcrime is excellent.
Historic. Be Well.
You must do their song SILENT LUCIDITY. Such an emotional song.
Silent Lucidity and Jet City Woman should be next on your list from them
So awesome my friend I was 15 when this album came out listen to the entire work and see if doesn't hold true to our world today.💘 you class of "88"
love this band, you should check out Silent Lucidity from the same album. Their version of Scarborough Faire is AMAZING!
Good good wow it’s an awesome song
The original Queensryche was the best... sadly, they did not last past 1997. The band currently only has 2 original members w/ a new (but exceptional) vocalist Todd LaTorre.
Queensryche debuted around 1983 after guitarist/ songwriter Chris DeGarmo recruited operatic vocalist Geoff Tate... Michael Wilton (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) & Scott Rockenfield (drums) rounded out the progressive heavy metal band.
Queensryche finally hit platinum in 1988 w/ their concept story album 'Operation: Mindcrime'... their 4th release. The single 'Eyes of a stranger' was an MTV hit... but the whole record is a fan fave🔥🔥🔥
The band was still popular in the 90's, but wandered into non-metal music by 1997... failure of the album 'Hear in the now frontier' in '97 had founding member Chris DeGarmo leaving the band ☹️
Singer Geoff Tate kept Queensryche recording & touring from 1999 til 2012... but record sales had fallen for the band.
Geoff Tate was fired in 2012 after an altercation w/ the band members... Todd LaTorre took over on vocals and has been recording & touring til today. Drummer Scott Rockenfield allegedly left in 2017.
Very much a thinking man’s metal band
Queensrÿche is a great bad, must check out more from them
tear it all down we'll build it up again...another empire soo true
Multi part reaction to the entire Operation Mindcrime from beginning to end😉
