Randal140d was gonna point out this exact thing. Seems as though he misunderstood what happened. A bit of fog isn’t gonna drop the temperature to a consistent 30 degrees Fahrenheit, year-round.
The fimbul winter from norse mythology is also thought to be around this time period. Very interesting to see so many different sources from all over the world chronicling this event so long ago!
This is normal for a lot of the planet. There are places that have been overcast for more than 365 days in row in just the US and thats a single country. Add in all those in europe, asia, south america that get lots of overcast days im sure there is a place every year that hasnt seen sun in a year or more. But the people and plants and animals are adapted for it in those places. It's like in Alaska, parts of the state are overcast all year long and then you have season long days and nights in addition to that. And Alaska has some of the wildest natural temperate rainforests on planet earth without all the sunlight.
2:50 That’s not at all how you calculate the change in degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit. You converted 1.6 C to F, but we’re talking about change in temperature, not actual temperature. If 0 is your zero point in Celsius then 32 is your zero point in Fahrenheit. This means you need to subtract 32 from your temperatures to get the CHANGE in temperature rather than that temperature in Celsius. In Fahrenheit the absolute value of that change is 2.88 - 4.5 degrees. If Earth cooled by 34-36 degrees F, it would have been a mini ice age.

536 AD is the estimated timeframe that the Krakatoa volcano experienced an extremely massive eruption that caused a column of smoke, ash, and debris 13 miles high. So much material was ejected into the atmosphere that it shrouded the Earth causing temperature drops and ensuing human suffering. Krakatoa would erupt massively again around 1200 and the most recent climate-changing eruption was in the 1880s. The 1880s eruption was estimated to be equivalent to 160 megatons, the Tsar Bomba was a measly 57 megatons in comparison.

Knowing that enemy spies would try to count his forces night before battle by tried and true method of counting his army's camp fires he ordered his men to spread out and each man to build his own fire. Standard was 5 to 10 men to afire. The next day the opposing general sent peace treaty proposal. A great mind and a bloodless victory.

First of all, it's been getting annoying to have people call the years since 2016 'the worst year ever' or something. Just stop, we humans always faced challenges. That said, wow I actually clicked on this video with some skepticism. I doubted that anyone could point to one year in recorded history and say that it was the worst year ever. 536 on the other hand? Yeah, after seeing this video and learning about all the hardships (all of them) beyond the control of these people I can understand why someone would call 536 the worst year ever.

I can’t believe the way you calculated Fahrenheit temperature change made it past any review. A CHANGE of 1.6 degrees Celsius is a CHANGE of 2.88 degrees Fahrenheit. A TEMPERATURE of 1.6 degrees Celsius is slightly above freezing, or a TEMPERATURE of 32+2.88 = 34.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
I can’t believe I only see one comment on this… I stopped the video to make sure this was commented. 2:55 this is incorrect for those using the Fahrenheit example, all they did was convert the temperature of 1.6 and 2.5 degrees celsius into regular temperature in Fahrenheit not converting the change in temperature.
The true values of those two numbers should be between 2.8 and 4.5 degrees Fahrenheit
It hurt my innards reading the conversion they made in the video... And it hurt even more realizing that literally nobody else in the comments pointed that out. Following the video's conversion, he could say that the temperature dropped by 275 Kelvin........

In Scotland this is the norm.
Welcome to Finland

Knowing that enemy spies would try to count his forces night before battle by tried and true method of counting his army's camp fires he ordered his men to spread out and each man to build his own fire.
Whoever did the math on that needs to go back to class. 100% agree, hypothetically: if global temp was 20C and dropped to 17.5C, like video stated as the max the temperature drop (2.5C) the temperature would be 63.5 degrees of cheeseburger.
