Superb review of two units that to my ears still sound great even today! Totally usable sounds and great guitar playing dude, inspiring stuff. The Eric Johnson acoustic arrangement is beautiful.
Next week..... Clifton: "Here is how a simple bathroom can equal or better the sound of a Lexicon. The secret is to leave the toilet seat lid UP!" Subscribers: "How the heck did he manage to do that without his wife divorcing him for the lid part!" 🤯😳😲 🤣
I have a soft spot for the SPX 2000. Like you said, not as deep of editing but sometimes that's a benefit. It's nice to be able to pull up a preset, make a couple slight adjustments and be on your way. I've never owned a PCM 80 though. 🙌
It’s interesting, it gets basically no love on the Facebook rack enthusiast pages but the x reverbs spank almost everything I’ve heard south of Bricasti, when utilized appropriately. I’ll have to put it head to head with the PCM91 and Eventide Eclipse also. There’s a dual cathedral in the 91 that is great and the Eclipse has those really musical, complex ambient algorithms.
Both units have great capabilities and sonic usefulness. The audiophile in me has always heard a 'digital-ness' in Yamaha gear that's hard to filter out. Lexicon always sounds smooth, creamy and analog-like, IMHO. Always inspired by your vast guitar prowess.
Lexicon is pretty expensive and hard to get these days, and I agree that Yamaha's reverb is better. But standalone Yamaha reverb unit like REV500 sounded even better. I would pick the Yamaha since I think it might have a better chorus and stick a delay pedal which I prefer. I wondered how Behringer units like FX2000 or V Verb compares to them?
both are nurpulent but gotta say the sp had a more pleasing modern sheen than the pc on the acoustic. perhaps a more tit for tat death match would be the yammy v 91🥓
Cool, loved them both, enjoy your playing - vintage rack gear and great playing, this is what I love this channel for
Whelp, I’ll have to dig out some more old boxes from my basement racks!

Thank you! I needed to practice it for a solo acoustic gig coming it so I’m glad I came up with an excuse
Awesome review, I enjoyed seeing the half muted half pace sweeps, thats something I havent seen before.
Right on man, thank you!
They sound great but the guitarist, damn, dude jams!
This is what the world needs right now
This was great Clifton! Thanks for posting! Great playing too!
Thank you kindly good sir’

i had that exact hamer archtop same color and all. stole it for $999 at a guitar center used. unfortunately sold it a few years back
It’s a cool guitar! Not my daily driver but always happy with the clarity of sound it gives me for certain things

Lol digital doesn't have a sound, try audiophile harder lol
Great playing as always, these units both enhance your playing without sounding overly processed

Can Yamaha be used for vocals?
Definitely

I almost went that way! Except the SPX does WAAAAY more stuff than the 91, which unapologetically specializes in fancy reverbs.
