if you study the philosophy you would understand it’s not about suppressing your emotions…

And if YOU, commenter, study developmental psychology, childhood trauma etc. you would know that it is the god damn philosophy of a freakin sociopath. Most of us, who know anything about those things, would know that something like "Stoicism", which might have been adaptive in ancient Rome, is NOT healthy in a safe world. If you're world isn't safe, then maybe. But at least understand the basic psychology behind why somehow promotes this "Philosophy" of suppression. Any psychology student who's read up on childhood trauma and healthy development, won't explain this to you. No, Stoicism is not healthy, for people who to live an authentic life, being able to vulnerable, and express and know what you want. Stoicism is what you do when you are afraid to be vulnerable, when you need protect yourself. This, unfortunately, stops you from growing. It might make you feel safer, but ultimately, this is macho toxic bullshit. Sorry, go study something from the West that actually understands emotions, compassion, empathy and so on. Westerners are so God damn stupid, they don't even understand what they're actually reading.

Great video! The most important point you made is to actually read Epictetus, Seneca, and Aurelius instead of relying solely on TH-cam video explanations. Read the source material, think about what you've read and write your thoughts in a journal.

      Thanks for the comment dawg!
I have a strange, spontaneous habit where I grab the meditations book and analyze the first quote I open up on the book. Not something I'd recommend to someone as a habit whenever they're demotivated, but every now and then (so this was after I had read the book). It opened my eyes to what the man was trying to say. Thinking about that idea alone was enough to stimulate me to try and go about applying the philosophy he preached. For that reason I felt it necessary to include it in the video; for some astronomical reason, not a single guru has mentioned this, lol.

Hey man, the clickbait thing is not cool. it makes things more confusing. I would be interested both in what you're selling with the title and with the actual contents of it. Now I'm not, so I'll be skipping this channel for now.
But have a great day and keep making cool content like this!

Thank you for that and this comment! I'll try my best for next time and I'll admit it definitely wasn't the best introduction.
I plan to revisit this in its full glory and honor when I feel it ready to tackle it again. If you have any suggestions I'm open to hear them

Your own video and clickbait title are contributing to the misunderstanding of stoicism that has created the issues you describe. Disappointing. Entirely expected, though. You have little interest in philosophy and much more on the clicks that you can get by talking about it (incorrectly).

Heyo! Sorry that I didn't meet your expectations. I'm very interested in philosophy, and in that matter I'd love to hear more about how I'm potentially contributing to the issues I talked about so I can improve my future content.
I understand how some things I say can be misinterpreted, at the end of the day, I'm a student, not a professor of the sort. I talk from experience and what I read on my own terms.

I'm not really sure what the point of this video is. Start off by saying it doesn't work because you had a bad experience and stoicism didn't help. This is the opposite to a stoic mindset. Then you go on to say why the common false stereotypes of stoicism are bad (agreed). None of this dispells true stoicism. The title is extremely clickbaity and again, the opposite of a stoic approach. The main takeaway for me that underpins stoicism is to be strict with yourself, patient with others and focus on what you can control. It doesn't mean to be robotic and emotionless, rather it's about avoiding wallowing in self pity when things inevitably go wrong. When you're upset it's important to go through the healing process properly which is being strict with yourself. You have to be honest and not just brush things off because they're an inconvenience or you don't want to deal with them.

@@tc2raven you’ve made a logical fallacy before even beginning your video. You say stoicism doesn’t work. A valid claim only if you correctly define and understand stoicism. The issue is that you seem to not understand stoicism at all. Have you read Seneca, Epictetus, or Marcus Aurelius? You talk about the current discourse regarding the philosophy and its misrepresentation of the actual philosophy itself, which I agree with, and yet all your attacks of the framework stem from the misrepresentation and misconceptions. You never properly address stoicism as defined by the big 3 I mentioned earlier, and you never provide valid critiques. There are absolutely valid arguments against stoicism, and yet your video depicts none of them. So you attack people that have a shallow understanding of the topic, and then fall right into the category that you yourself critique. Your video is hypocritical at best, and malicious at worst. I hope you do indeed try to do some more reading and research before making future videos on dense and complex topics. Surface level understanding while believing you have a strong grasp on a topic is the exact issue that we see in society today.
