Girl i feel you! Getting into exo i knew Kai was a dancer but watching his FILM + Mmmh I was floored and he absolutely smashed it in the DFTF album. His voice is truly a hidden gem in the group and I’m so glad he could come out with this to showcase that he’s much more than his dancing. 💕💕
I think Kai himself was also more comfortable being the main dancer at the beginning. It's what he trained in since childhood. And I feel like dancers don't get the wide appreciation that main vocals do, it's a less understood art form. And even if you have a lovely voice, which Kai does (so does Sehun btw), imagine being in a group with D.O. or Chen or Baekhyun.... you'd feel shy about your vocals too. And then imagine being Baekhyun or Chen and only training for like 6 months before standing next to a dancer like Kai... But just like Chanyeol or Chen or whoever, who were very confident in music but not as much in the dancing and have gotten better and better, EXO members who didn't start out with a deep background in vocal performance have become more and more confident as singers over the years. And I think that is beautiful

With JongIn was no exception; hip-hop as Reason, something more classic/artistic as Nothing On Me, R&B (can not miss if we talk about EXO). And finally, our JongIn was able to show how much he advanced with his singing, having one of the most interesting and rare voices in the Kpop. This album is a mirror of what JongIn is as an artist. This entire album is telling a story, it gives you all the feels, and puts you it all types of moods. Hands down Ride or Die is my favorite off this album. The synth-pop is so 80's-90's but feels so fresh and new. I think one of the best things about the members enlisting in waves is that it gives all of the members the spotlight to shine. So lead vocalist can now shine and show how strong they really are since the main vocalist are gone.
I have been a fan since their debut and I was awed by his dancing in Mama that made him my ult bias. When XOXO album was released and I heard the song Don't go where he just had a few lines, I fell in love deeper with this man with a honey voice. Most people are attracted by his sexiness but whenever I look at him, I just see an adorable shy baby bear. Hugs to all Erigoms out there. I love you all!
Kai has a unique voice in kpop. Not commonly kpop voice but haunting. He sings like he dances... Very personal, masculine and often husky. It's not a "put on" vocal but raw and honest. It can only get better as he continues on his journey. Can't wait for his next albun

EXO choruses repeat a lot, you noticed it in Love Shot too, but their magic is that they always change up the instrumental and they always, ALWAYS add the fun, or jaw dropping adlibs in the background, so it doesn't get boring. Kai's vocal has really grown on me, and I love his distinct tone. You are correct, he really put his whole heart and soul into this album, and it paid off! Without surpassing, this album 9 months after debut, is a masterpiece and it is getting better and better to listen to it, it feels fresh. his voice is so special and distinguishes between voices when he is with his group. he has a unique, smooth, melozo vocal range. he was hiding kai, he was never given the opportunity, only lines or chorus, but the incredible thing that in the chorus, there is his voice shining. it is my favorite album. I also think that kpop focuses tons more on tenors as such which is a pity coz just in EXO, we've Chanyeol, Kai and Sehun who have such great texture/rasp and tonality in their voices. And yes since EXO's main "main vocal line" is so fcking strong, their voices often are underappreciated or just put under the "rapper" tag! I really hope we can hear more baritones in mainstream kpop..
The thing about being exol for so long is to see how each of them growing up in talent wise and for me the development of kai as a vocalist is one of the most significant. He used to get rap line, except you're an exol you will rarely able to hear his singing voice eventho his members (especially d.o.) keep mentioning how pretty his vocal color is. And now in this album people finally can hear how good he is as a singer not just a dancer.
Oh also Caitlin, Chanyeol released a movie called "THE BOX" and the movie has so many tracks where he covers songs like Sky full of stars, Bad Guy, Without You etc. He even rearranged a few of these himself!

I just watched this and you said the person who mixed Amnesia brought his voice in the front so you can hear his voice really well. Let me tell you I listen to Kpop for over 12 years now and this specifically is a SMEntertainment trait. They layer the voices on top, pull them upfront in most of their artists. Where in other groups it can happen that you can't understand lyrics or who is singing because the instrumental is so in your face it's the opposite with SM Artists. They're famous for their vocals and acapella abilities. And now since I ranted about this... I love your reactions especially when you pull out your glasses or the shoe xD You crack me up and I keep talking to the screen being all like "Gurl wait for another 10 seconds and you'll be on the floor"

I really think that despite not being the main vocal, Kai has the most unique voice in exo in terms of sound. It’s so rich and nasally and forward.

The thing about being exol for so long is to see how each of them growing up in talent wise and for me the development of kai as a vocalist is one of the most significant. He used to get rap line, except you're an exol you will rarely able to hear his singing voice eventho his members (especially d.o.) keep mentioning how pretty his vocal color is. And now in this album people finally can hear how good he is as a singer not just a dancer.

I just watched this and you said the person who mixed Amnesia brought his voice in the front so you can hear his voice really well. Let me tell you I listen to Kpop for over 12 years now and this specifically is a SMEntertainment trait. They layer the voices on top, pull them upfront in most of their artists. Where in other groups it can happen that you can't understand lyrics or who is singing because the instrumental is so in your face it's the opposite with SM Artists. They're famous for their vocals and acapella abilities.
And now since I ranted about this...
