The weirdest things is that without Halo there wasn't that many accidents that end up badly because there wasn't halo before, but now when we have it there is one almost every race weekend that would end up badly without it
@@PolishCarbon I guess a lot of the crashes we see now where the halo is somewhat involved would oftentimes have played out similarly without halo (ie: no bad injuries and luckily no fatalities), but even in such cases the halo proves how often it is a really, *really* close call. That is to say: A lot of crashes happened and continue to happen where debris or even another car gets very close to the driver and might injure him, but where the situation would have high odds of the driver getting injured without the halo, the halo nowadays drastically reduces that risk. That W series crash would have been much more severe without the halo, possibly even lethal. Grosjean is alive and well thanks to the halo. I was against the Halo when it was introduced, thinking it was a solution in need of a problem. How wrong I was. The halo has protected many people and made racing a whole lot safer.
@@h.a.9880 Thing is, the halo could have saved Grosjean only to kill him anyway, since he struggled to get out of the car when it was on fire. Thankfully that never happened, but it almost did. I agree with you though, but I think it's because people are jumpy and any crash within any kind of proximity to the halo and they are claiming the halo saved lives. Even the FIA did it with Alonso VS Leclerc at Spa. You watch the live footage and reference the images of damage on the halo and you can see Alonso's rear wheel would have just cleared Leclerc at the front of his helmet, yet FIA simulated footage shows Alonsos wheel going over the top of his helmet completely, which never happened in the video and the damage marks don't support.
@@flammenjc My biggest fear in regards to the halo was people being unable to get out of the car with it in the way... Grosjean had to struggle to get out, but that had also something to do with his cockpit still being wedged into the barriers and even so, he survived the crash almost unharmed and then only burned his hands as he was escaping. Even if he could not have gotten out, there would at least have been some chance of the fires being suppressed enough for him to make it out alive - at least the odds of that would have been better than his odds of surviving the inital crash without the halo. There is a overuse of "Halo saved the driver's life" indeed, but oftentimes, while not outright true, it has to be said that the halo significantly reduced the risk of injury most of those times. Sure, sometimes, the car or piece of debris might have cleared the driver by a few centimetres, but the halo always does its job of increasing that margin. We've had a lot of crashes in the past where something gets really close to the driver, but luckily, he's not injured. In those close calls, the halo now always gets involved and clears the situation and prevents stuff getting too close to the driver to be a risk.
