I actually heard Pitch Black Afro interviewed on American radio about his music, so there's definitely room for Kelly Khumalo in the world music genre in the States. Perhaps she'll consider singing in English one day...
I love this song, but it never occured to me that the dance moves are originally Queen LEBO Mathosa, even the attire. I guess we all have that one person that we look up to.
Today English is unassailably the most versatile language on our planet but by NO MEANS the beginning and end of the world. If that was the case everybody would be singing only in English. Other than Ladysmith Black Mambazo Miriam Makeba, Letta Mbulu, Oliver Mtukudzi, Manu Dibango, Salif Keita (to name only a handful) have traversed the globe and wowed it with their African sound. Art is about performing at your natural best and NOT appeasing America or the western world!!!

Kelly Khumalo, defies a court order by performing without obtaining consent from previous manager, Sarah Shongwe. During her latest performance, Khumalo told the audience that no one owns her voice, except her mother. Pro-Kelly have lodged an appeal against the judgment.A furious Shongwe has insisted that Khumalo has broken the law for the last time. A spokesperson for the Justice Department, Zolile Nqayi, has insisted that Khumalo will definitely have her day in court.
She can do whatever she wants but there is a lot of money she is leaving on the table. Her voice and talents would translate into big money in the west.
Just ran up on this video and your comment on what someone else said. Personally I think she sounds better singing in her lauguage. Some people will by it that way but if she wanted more broad appeal she could put out an english version. My opinion? No english!
none of those people are big. In the largest market in the planet (US) if they cant understand you then they will not buy your music. If she whats to get into the US market then she has to sing in english to even get recongization from the majority of music buyers.
I looked for this video high and low, I remember seeing this as a child on LIVE and thinking she must be a Queen because wow.
