I've been carrying mace pepper guard. 10% pepper .. that looks exactly like that unit but is made for human self defense. I've been carrying Mace type since 1991.. in the mid-90s I had a customer's German Shepherd trained attack dog come after me (they forgot the dog was not in the pen); three sprays with the mace pepper guard and the dog went down! Rubbing his eyes with his paws.. giving me a chance to escape... The new model mace pepper guard this size is 1.4% capsaicinoids.. which is now the most potent formula on the market... It says 12 ft but optimally 10 ft is the limit.
I wish I had seen your video, or bought an extra sprayer to practice with before an encounter with a dog. I carried one of these things around for a couple of years and finally used it on a charging dog. I expected a mist like spray. I thought the thing malfunctioned when I didn't see a spray or hear a spraying sound. I'm not sure if the stream stopped the dog or if it was because I face the dog yelling stop with my arm stretched out in front of me.
Hi, I'm pretty sure pepper sprays expire. So if you had the same one for a couple of years and it malfunctioned, that might be why. You'd want to replace it after it expires, even if you hadn't used it. I'm glad you're okay! Stay safe.
It is .35 capsaicinoid. This is significantly less that what we use for defense against people, but is appropriate for dogs. There significantly more sensitive sense of smell and eyesight does not require as much OC power to deter them.

On the box it says "Active ingredient is approximately 10% Oleoresin Capsicum (0.35% Capsaicinoids) in a non-flammible vehicle.
Does it have a UV Dye in it for detection ?
It does not. UV dye is usually for police spraying people.
what is the OC and major cap content?
I couldn't find that. It's not on the package, Amazon, or maces website.
