It is definitely overwhelming to clean out and reorganize closets and pantry! You did a great job, and it looks perfect! What hard work it is to also grow vegetables and take care of animals! Your farm is so peaceful and quiet! I hated living in the country as a teenager, and sometimes miss the quiet now. I admire all of your hard work.
Thank you! It was really overwhelming but luckily it paid off in the end. There’s always some kind of activity going on here but it’s nice. I grew up even more rurally than I live now and hated it too! Haha. Now I love it and think I would miss it if I moved somewhere else. Anyway, thanks for watching! 🤎🤎🤎
Love your channel! Thanks❤
Thank you so much! It makes me smile to hear that. ☺️🤎
Just discovered your podcast! Loving it! Thank you so much!
Welcome!! Thanks so much for joining me and I’m so happy you’re liking it. 😍
This was lovely to watch. It is the first time I have seen your podcast and your personality and aesthetic were so joyful and refreshing. I am also in love with colorwork knitting, so seeing your knits and the things you loved from your trip was wonderful. I am looking forward to finding your other episodes. Thank you for a really good hour spent with you. Going over to find you now on IG.
That is so kind of you to say. Thank you! And I’m so happy you found me and enjoyed. Color work knitting is so much fun! ☺️☺️
Thank you for the podcast, it's always refreshing to know your knitting progress and plus points I love books too!
Ohh thank you for watching. I’m happy you enjoyed it. 🤎 A more progress related episode is coming this week. ☺️
Your knits are so beautiful! I love all the fair isle!! I’m so happy you got to visit Scotland. That sounds like a dream. My husband and I hope we can go one day as well!
Thank you so much! It was a dream! Truly. If you want to go you will find yourself there someday. 🤎
Donna Smith is wonderful! And her wool is so so so nice!!
Your podcast is lovely, thank you!
I want to try her yarn so badly! I love her videos and the book ☺️
Thank you for joining me! 🤎
Hello, thank you so much for this beautiful podcast. I dream to go to Shetland too, I am not so far (I live in French Alpes)... but this year I will travel in US. But definitely I will go one day. So it was very interesting to hear about your trip 🧡🧡🧡
I hope you someday make it there! Where are you visiting here in the US this year? I hope you enjoy your trip. ☺️
@@caprinecottage I will visit the west : LA, San Fransisco, Las Vegas and national park. A huge gap between this travel and my little town in the Alpes ! Ha ha !
That sounds so exciting!! I’ve only been to the West Coast once as a small child but it looks so beautiful! I’m sure you will see some really beautiful things
I just love your podcast!
Thank you! This makes me so happy. :)
Hi, thanks for sharing your trip, seems you had a wonderfull experience and a great overall adventure 😊 all your knits are lovely, I really love the hats, such warm colours. I've never gotten around to do colour knitting, to me it seems quite overwhelming the whole thing, but, having said that, I suppose maybe one of these days it's just finding the moment and someone to show me how to do it, right? 😅 see, you're already inspiring me to do more❤ Have a great week!
Hi thanks for stopping by and saying Hi, it’s a lot of fun to see familiar names and faces. I’m so happy you like the hats! I do feel like I gravitate to a warm color palette. Color work knitting definitely seems more intimidating than it is (or at least I found that to be true) I have faith you can do it! ☺️☺️ I hope you have a nice week too!
Amazing trip. I’m off to highlands next March. Not visited enough considering I live in UK 🥴😃
I’m happy you liked seeing it! How exciting, I bet it will be loads of fun! ☺️ Sometimes it’s hardest to go see the things that are close to us. Especially when there are so many exciting destinations.
Just a tip for lease use stitch markers to divide the repeats
Oh yes. I wouldn't be able to do it at all without stitch markers haha. Thank you!
hello from Scotland. am I your 1000 subscriber ???? i see the counter says 999. Glad to see you had a great trip here last year, the islands are beautiful. I'm off over to Harris next week and then Orkney in August. Just back from the US had a week in NYC to visit family a few weeks ago.
Ahh hello!!! Welcome! And I’m pretty sure you were indeed my 1000th subscriber. So thank you for that! 🥳 I’ve been watching the count all day. 😍
I love Scotland so so much! I dream of coming back as soon as I can. There are so many places I still want to visit. I hope you enjoyed your trip here! I live about 4 hours away from NYC but have visited many times. It’s a wild place lol. ☺️
Excellent well done 👍
I’m really enjoying your podcast, it’s such a comfortable place. I’ve been seeing so much about Shetland wool, patterns and the place… very inspiring, loooking at delving a bit deeper 😊
I’m so happy you enjoy it! I try to create a safe cozy space for everyone in an exhausting world. I don’t think you will be disappointed if you do! Thanks for stopping by 🤎
can we have a shetland wool week knit along?
I would love to do something like this... but I also have no idea how one goes about organizing something like that. If we kept it simple like just a tag on instagram I would definitely be interested in making it happen. I don't know how to make groups on ravelry or set up a discord. Thoughts?
@@caprinecottage simpler the better always 😃. great video this week, I've got to go dig out my old wool week books now.
Ok! 😁😁 I will try to make it happen. I’m so happy you enjoyed the video. It’s never a bad time for some Shetland knitting. 🤎
Your love for Shetland shines so brightly that I'm yearning to go myself now! I'm sure you'll return - many times.
I still haven't got to grips with colourwork, but find lace quite easy. I find it wonderful that everyone has their skills that come naturally while others need to work and work at them!
Thanks for another great video.
Aww that is such a sweet and kind thing to say. I so hope that I go back. 🤎 maybe you will go too!
I love to hear this! I also love how each person is different and the way that they connect with craft. It’s another way that shows how we are all valid and have worth in this chaotic world. Even if we might have very different skills. 🤎
Thank you for coming by! I’m so happy you enjoyed.
@@caprinecottage Oh that would be good! Despite living a 2.5 hour drive from the Scottish border, I've only ever been to Gretna Green (once!).
Differences are vital to problem solving, whether that be skills, ideas, or taste in music!
😍😍 I know for you that’s probably a distance but to me it sounds so close! Haha.
@@caprinecottage It's close for me too... But I don't drive, so I'm reliant on others to want to go and be willing to take me 🤣
@@DawnLewis79 Oh I know how that can be. I didn’t drive for years and years. It definitely makes it harder to get places.
Wonderful podcast!! A visit to Shetland 🎉v Virtually
I'm so happy you enjoyed! Thanks for watching this week. :)
I was there in September last fall! Yes to all you said. I did no knitting either. I gauged with my mouth open and watched everything. I have all of those books too. I have listened to Ann Cleaves audible books to knit . Thank you. I could cry too. And btw I think I myself am vintage. ❤
You went for wool week right? My absolute dream! Someday I will go for that. It’s almost indescribable the emotions being there and even thinking about it evokes. It’s an incredibly special place. Such a good idea to listen to her books while knitting. I always wish I could read and knit at the same time haha. Thanks for saying hi again! Always happy to chat with another Shetland fan lol. 🤎🤎
Wonderful episode! I have always heard beautiful and wonderful things about Shetland. Maybe one day I’ll go visit as well. Hannah from Pinned to the wind knits here on youtube is from Scotland as well as The Shoggly Stitch here on TH-cam as well.
I’m so happy you enjoyed it. Shetland is truly a beautiful and magical place. I hope you find yourself there one day. ☺️ Thank you for the suggestions! I’ll check them out. 🤎
Thank you for a beautiful, inspiring episode!
I’m so happy you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching! 🤎
What a fun trip! Thank you for sharing. Question, what is a knitting belt?
It was so much fun! I dream of going back all the time. A knitting belt is a tool that is used in Shetland to help with the ease and speed of knitting. I'm linking a great blog post and video about them from Hazel Tindall. (She's amazing if you are into Shetland knitting)

What tour did you go on? This itinerary is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks so much. Great video. cheers
Oh I’m so sorry. We didn’t do a tour. My mom and I researched and planned our whole trip on our own. It saved us money to do it that way. Luckily public transportation in Scotland mainland and Shetland is very good. I would say that it is not too hard to do it on your own. Just make sure you book everything far in advance. We booked in February for August. The only thing that we did closer to the date was trains and we had a travel agent help with flights. Thank you for watching! I’m happy you enjoyed. Good luck on planning your trip! 🤎
@@caprinecottage I think I would prefer my own plans as well. I dont know if I could deal with such constraints of a tour. Thank you!
I just started tickling color work knitting! I’m really drawn to Norwegian knit patterns.
I have a random question; could you do a video on how you spin your own fiber and like what to do with your new yarn after you spin it? I just started diving into the realm of spinning wool and I can’t find anything about what to do after you finish spinning. Thank you so much!
I hope you enjoy your color work adventure! It’s a fun rabbit hole to go down. ☺️
Do you mean like how to finish/treat the yarn when you’re done spinning? Or things you can knit with it afterwards? I do intend to do more “Caprine Craft” episodes and I would like to focus one on spinning but also I’m not completely sure how to show someone without being in person with them.
Yeah! Like the finish/treat! Sorry I’m bad at wording and trying to say what’s in my head 😅
Oh not bad at all! I just wanted to make sure I answered you in the right way. I definitely can show that. But also in the meantime. Try searching “how to use a niddy noddy” that should get you started. But also I’ll just shortly say what I do here. I wind on to niddy noddy, then tie off the hank, then soak in very hot water with power scour for 20mins, rinse, then wrap in a towel, then take out side and swing it around/thwack on the towel on a hard surface to help set the twist, then hang to dry. ☺️ Hopefully that helps!
Interesting; thank you! 😅
It’s just sort of my made up way of doing it. I’m sure there is no “right way”
Hey there! I'm pretty sure that the tunic you purchased is a modern make. For many years now (at least 20 years), sewists have been haunting thrift stores to snag wool sweaters that they can felt, cut up, and refashion into other garments or home decor. Your tunic looks very much like that. Here's a video of that sort of thing: th-cam.com/video/dZ7hvSGNetY/w-d-xo.html
Hi! It shows no characteristics of being a garment like that. For one there are no sewn seams, machine or otherwise. It is all knitted with picked up stitches for color/section changes. Second it's not been felted? Perhaps you misunderstood my explanation of how the fabric was, but when non super washed wool is worn or washed it fulls in and the fabric becomes more dense however this is nothing like what happens when you accidentally or on purpose felt a garment. I'm also going to guess that its from the 70s or 80s based on color/style. Thanks for your opinion though. Have a nice day.
@@caprinecottage Interesting!
