Brings back memories for me; decades ago, as an Australian Army Military Police motorcyclist, escorting Army vehicle convoys and ceremonial military escorts was my bread and butter; noteworthy that civilian police in Australia do not escort military convoys, but do accompany military convoys, in case civilian armed police are needed to deal with any civilian disturbance to the convoy.
@Gary Williams, the gun fired in anger in the Falklands conflict allowed the Islanders and people like yourself the freedom to express their opinions with freedom of speech, some respect wouldn’t go amiss.
General info, for people who seem to think that guns shouldn't be paraded (or as they say "displayed"), even if they're in a convoy going to carry out a gun salute at The Tower. The type of gun used to fire a salute varies from the 25-pounder, operated by the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) introduced in 1940 and were used widely during the Second World War. However these are 105 mm saluting guns: The British Army has a number of dedicated saluting guns for ceremonial purposes. Based on the standard L118, these saluting guns are modified to exclusively fire blank cartridges, are not fitted with the APS system and are easily distinguished from the field gun variant by their distinctive bronze green paintwork, chromed muzzle brake and breech.
_General info, for people who seem to think that guns shouldn't be paraded (or as they say "displayed")_ Yeah I know that's aimed at me. I never said that. Try again.
