  • I am totally amazed by how close you can be to Boston and still have the feeling that you are out in the country. In this video we take the short drive into Boston from Wakefield, and in just a few miles the scenery transforms from a beautiful countryside to an inner city that is rich in history. P.S. If you liked this video please help by hitting the like button, or leaving a comment, or subbing or any combination what you would like. It will help the channel a lot.

    Nice scenery, and also the unique sound of the Ford Flathead V8 engine.

    I really enjoyed the ride downtown in the 35. It was so nice looking over the hood, being able to hear it's awesome flathead V8..... there're my favorite engine. I frame off restored a 38 Ford back int he late 80's. I was in Boston a few years back, and did that walk. I watch your videos of that walk. Great video!

    Lovely view over such an impressive hood. Nowadays, for how much all cars look alike, seeing this old Ford proves that it's truly a lost art.

    The time in between changing gears feels like the engine is an old timer trying to find his words but when he does.. he's got so much to say :)

      It's very interesting to drive cars of this era. When you are up shifting you must give a little extra time for the gears to slow down as higher gears are turning slower. When you are down shifting you must double clutch so you can speed up the gears so they will mesh properly.

    Always great to see James and his dad on the road viewing the country as it should be viewed in a vintage car especially if it’s a Morgan

      The Morgan is not retired, but just taking a little rest. Maybe it will come out west in the spring.

    Enjoy Boston! So much to see there. I have family there and always have a wonderful time there when I visit there. Driving around town isn’t that bad. You just have to be patient and stay alert concerning your route. Parking can be a challenge and I recommend a good parking garage while you are downtown. Enjoy your trip!

    A little hint-mount your GoPro inside of the car. It would be nice to see the top of the dash and such.

    Love the opening shot, that hood going past those older buildings. (I miss hood ornaments . . .) Obviously whoever that was that beeped at you at that light has never driven a standard . . . I know you know, but for my own sake I gotta go 'Uncle Jim" mode here, remember these old engines aren't as close to a closed system as todays motors. Oil is cheaper than parts . . . check the oil and antifreeze daily.

    • @americasbackroadswithcharl7688
      @americasbackroadswithcharl7688  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting enough we check it daily and brought extra oil with us, but have yet to add any. The antifreeze is also checked daily and we only added a super small amount after several days of driving (about 6 ounces). This old Ford is wonderful and is a pleasure to drive and be around.

      @@americasbackroadswithcharl7688 I'm not suprized you're checking daily. Good to hear it's not using oil. The Old Ford is most likely happy to be doing what it was designed to be doing.

    Beautiful scenery there. It’s nice to see everything pass by and listen to the sound of the engine. In one way or another every time I see a video of the traffic in America my mind is: he, they drive also on the right side of the road. I think I am confused with the UK. But watching this I ask myself the question. If you go from state to state is there any difference in traffic rules? Or is everything the same wherever you drive? Maybe a stupid question but I was just wondering. Thank you for sharing!

      The rules can change from state to state, but when we were pulled over once in Utah for a small infraction of the state of Utah we were not given a ticket once they confirmed we would not be breaking the law in our home state at the time.

    • @moldenburg909
      @moldenburg909 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what I expected. There must be a difference between the rules. Friendly they didn’t give you a ticket. I assume they know it can be complicated.

    Boston has the worst drivers and streets. Be careful about your car.

      I think people who drive in major cities get use to a different way of driving.

      Being a local resident of Boston I understand the history of Boston Roads. Once you understand that history, you realize how it all began way before all there was were horses that were used. Thanks for the chance to get a feel of what it was to drive Boston before we were alive. Good luck with the rest of your journey.
