HI Tony, my first watch was a Rolex sub date I waited on an AD list for 1 year in 2000, I saved a lot of money by not buying all the cheaper watches, I still love the sub

    - I can afford it but it still makes me uncomfortable to spend that much money on myself. I have no problem spending that kind of money or more on college and weddings for my kids, safe cars for my family etc. But strictly on myself, not so easy.

Consider it as a purchase for yourself and also a purchase for your kids. The watch will be passed on to them in future. Buy the Rolex if you feel comfortable and ask your self do you deserve it?

Great advice Tony!! This journey started with Movado for me. I am 41 and I bought myself one at $500 in 1999. I was very young and it was a HUGE purchase for me. But the advice here is key. Don’t overspend on anything unless you have the cash to pay for it. Never charge a credit card or take a loan out to pay for any luxury item. That’s insane. You shouldn’t have anxiety about making the purchase. If you do, you aren’t ready. My first big watch purchase was a Tudor BB GMT at $4500 but at that time I could easily afford it. I now have a bunch of higher end watches but I can afford it and I know spending that money doesn’t affect me. I do have a total budget for my collection. If I approach it I sell off a piece.

Tony, I think this topic is very relevant and down to earth. I love Rolex watches. I am 66 years old and I still have not pulled the trigger on one. I have other things to spend my limited money on. So why am I watching this video you might be asking? Well, I like the subject matter. No one cares what watch I actually wear. In fact, where I live, I have never even seen a real Rolex in the wild. But, I still love Rolex. Thanx for the nice video.

I went straight to the top at 20 (56 now). Best thing I ever did.
I enjoy Casio Duros thru Sinn 212 to Omega still.
Rolex is the fancy meal out once a year. McDonalds is weekly, and Five Guys monthly.
    I enjoy every meal 😋

Solid advice Tony! I remember buying a of Movado in the late 90's and I thought i was the man lol. This was like my 6th or 7th watch; I have had watches since I was like 8.You are 100% correct there are levels to it. I remember when i fell hard times and sold my Movado. Then when things got good again I said my next watch is going to be a Rolex and was watch less for a few years until I was able to buy one and it felt great!

Great conversation to be had! Being new to watches just a year ago, I relate it to a guitar collecting journey. You have to work your way through the Epiphones and Mexican Fenders, to standard models, then into custom shop or vintage if you want. After playing for almost 30 years, I have a small but awesome guitar collection. I started my watch collection with an Omega Speedmaster and will add a Sub at some point. Will put away a little money at a time so it won’t be a big deal when the time comes.

Hi Tony, great video. Tons of great advice here. It is so important to learn what you like and experiment with more affordable watches. Especially what size, thickness, dial designs etc. Speak to you. It is much less stressful spending $300 on a Seiko deciding it doesn't do it for you and selling it on for $200. I call this watch rent.

Watch collecting is a journey. Start from the bottom and work your way up. You will find these watch collectors are far more interesting and knowledgeable. Even if some of there watches were not the right choice. That’s the journey. Finally getting the watch you desire is just apart of the journey. Some times the chase for a model can be better than the watch when you do get it. 🤟👍.

Tony that was great idea doing a segment specifically on this topic. Buy what you can afford and don’t get caught up with the hype.👍Watches are luxury item especially when you get into higher end brands. Talking about watches was at Moritz Grossman AD. As you know very limited production. I think they make about 450 watches a year. The AD had MG-003520 limited to only 50 watches worldwide. I’m contemplating in buying it, funny thing remember was offered a 6119R Patek and I passed. Both watches sell for $32k.😁Like to get your opinion Tony.🤔

I kinda get the anxiety part to the Rolex deal. At least for me it took a while to understand where it came from. It’s not anxiety caused by spending the money. It was anxiety caused by the “who am I to own/wear a Rolex”. Growing up below the poverty line, having a mom that had to steal sometimes to feed and cloth me, being a high school dropout ect ect bla bla. Over the last 20 years I worked my ass off and started with Tissot and Citizen and moved up from there. Now … Fuck it man! That’s who I am to wear a Rolex.

Hi Tony, I like and appreciate your common sense which is not so common in today's world anymore. One thing that irks me is that many people in this habit of watches think that what they have on their wrist defines who they are. I don't buy more expensive pieces then about $6000 because I have a self imposed $ limit and it serves me well my friend. I like the Rolex Presidential but get more satisfaction out of a multiple watch collection made up of omega, Tudors, GSs,and my all time favorite piece a early 2000s 41mm reverse panda Navitimer. My friends don't judge me by what's on my wrist and neither do I. Hey man, continue to keep it real ok?

Fluted Jubilee Mint Green 36mm can give him a bit of profit if sold brand new, but if it's a 41mm, it's going to give him a bigger profit. The market is still strong, but only for the highly-sought after dial colours and fluted Jubilee combo: Mint Green, Blue, Motif, or Wimbledon. It's a no-brainer decision, really, unless money is tight or if he wanted to buy more Rolex in the future.

If they’re reading the comments, then I say if you really like the watch (and why put your name down if not) go for it. The model on offer can be your only watch for the rest of your life, it’s that versatile. And assuming it’s a 36mm could also also be handed down to kids. If you have it 10 years it’s cost you $20 a week. That’s a few beers/coffees.

Question for you man. So I inquired about a few Rolex Watches from my local Ad almost 3 years ago. Those watches include , Rolex Submariner.41m black dial with date, Rolex Sea-Dweller, Rolex Deepsea and the long awaited Daytona. Now I get the Daytona is a long stretch however I have a very long spending history with this Ad to include a rolex, breitling, Tag Heuer and a lot of other nice jewelry from not only the same Ad but the same sales guy. At the same time I contacted them I also contacted another AD in the area with zero spending history and about a year later was contacted and was chosen for the Sea-Dweller which I purchased. Do you think with the spending history I have and the relationship I have with the first AD that it’s a little ridiculous I haven’t been contacted about one of the watches I inquired about almost 3 years ago? I continue to keep in touch but I am being told it’s not up to the sales people on who picks who gets what watch it’s the owner. Which I have met with one time and it was a very pleasant experience. Figured I would get your thoughts on that. Thanks man and love what you’re doing with the channel and also love the watch collection!
