- Y'ALL. y'all were so real for requesting that I react to ATZ's Killing Voice because.... woah. like I have no words.
the amount of talent in this group is insane. each member brings something to the table and they all have amazing live vocals. I'll for sure be checking out more live performances because they seem to be killin those (haha, get it? killing voice?? im the best)

Mingi was really sick during this!! That’s why he had 4 water bottles in front of him. You can tell a little in this that his voice is raspier than normal and he sounds a tiny bit congested. He sounds phenomenal though for how sick he actually was.

I've heard him speak enough that I was able to tell he was congested when he started talking, but you can't really tell when he's singing besides the fact he just sounds a bit raspier than usual. quite impressive
Trust me when I say all 8 members of Ateez can dance, sing, rap, act. All of them are so talented. KQ literally found 8 gems.
San and Jongho are the main singers, but all the members have amazing voices, you can't choose between them

Yeah both Yunho and Seonghwa are the resident vocal chameleons they can really deepen their voices or make them super airy and soft when needed. Although, Yeosang can sometimes blend in with them especially when they're using their deeper sound. How i like to tell them apart is by Yeosang's lisp and Yunho and Seonghwa well I'm Seonghwa biased so I've learned to pick him out of a lineup blindfolded 😂

And one thing, do you know that while recording this they had no backtrack playing except for the song in their in-ears? Its so cool! you can even see that in one of the shorts Dingo released of them.

Just a fun thing that I think you can hear pretty clearly in this video- Yeosang has a lisp. It’s the best way to tell when it’s him singing cause he, Yunho, and Seonghwa can sound very similar.
And yeah Seonghwa’s high notes in Utopia are one of my favorite things ever. It’s so freaking gorgeous.
If you are interested in learning more about their voices- the channel Catchingteez (I think that’s the name) is doing a seris analyzing their different voices. She only has Yeosang and Wooyoung done right now, but she is doing them all.

I am kinda fascinated by Yunhos voice too. ive heard korean music critics/fans call his voice a chameleon that changes to match the part of the song. His high notes in killing voice was highlighted but he can go impressively low too and match Mingis register...
I think Yunho and Wooyoung are really essential for the backing layers for a lot of ATEEZ song like they layer their voices often. so i feel like you appreciate their voices way more when you see them live😊

Hongjoong has said that Yunho and San have the widest range vocally. Yeosang is finally getting lines. He was very underutilized early in.
Fun fact: apparently Mingi wrecked lots of people with this, which is hilarious considering he was super sick (hence the 4 bottles of water at his feet; he had almost no voice and was put on vocal rest for a whole week right after this) and on live he said he was afraid people would judge him and be disappointed by his performance 🙃😂
All of them can sing pretty high, except for Yeosang and Mingi. Even Hongjoong who is one of the main rappers can pull off some mean high notes and on a talk show even sang Jongho's part. Singing wise, Yeosang and Mingi don't go high, but Mingi's soft vocals are to DIE FOR, and both can go very low.
As a rapper, Mingi is incredibly versatile, he can pull off melodic, deep and booming, high pitched and silly, soft, aggressive, growly and raspy, fast raps and change tone completely from one bar to the other, to the point that sometimes people aren't sure if the entire verse is just him or if someone else has jumped in 😂 (it's always funny to watch YT reactions without the color-coded lyrics or MVs and people trying to figure out who's rapping). Spoiler: it's just him doing different voices. The only rapper who plays with him back and forth is Hongjoong, and you can definitely always recognize his voice in contrast with Mingi's. Some of the others rap too (Seonghwa is super good!) but so far they have not had back and forths with Mingi, so when in doubt, rest assured that it's just Mingi being incredibly versatile.
Hongjoong has pulled off some incredibly fast raps, but in terms of versatility I think no one can beat Mingi. For example in his Crazy Form rap, I thought he used a little bit of autotune (which Ateez LOVE to play around with, even with Jongho), but here (and in other instances) there's no autotune and he sounded the same despite being sick. Mingi has a very distinctive voice, and the fact that he manages to do something different with it within the limitations of rapping, on pretty much every single track (even at the start of Treasure, their debut) is just amazing. And that people still aren't sure if it's him or not rapping on certain tracks is testament to his versatility. From someone with his voice, you'd expect the raps of Say My Name and Answer, maybe Guerrilla (raspy and growly, completely different from his previous raps)... but then he shows up in Arriba, Deja vu, To the Beat or Shaboom and you realize how incredible he is.
Seonghwa and Yunho are secret weapons (luckily becoming less and less of a secret!) with an INCREDIBLE range, going from falsettos to growls (like at the start of Pirate King with Mingi). I couldn't wait for you to get to that part of Utopia! 😂
Wooyoung and Yeosang are quite underutilized, but when they get the chance to shine, it's beautiful.
Right after debut, pretty much only Jongho and sometimes San had a good enough technique and power to carry an entire chorus (and San had to quickly change technique and improve because he was making his vocal cords BLEED by singing too high) so it was up to them, Hongjoong and Mingi to pretty much lead the team. Jongho and San earned their positions as main and lead vocalists fair and square, but it did mean that for a long while they've been the ones in charge of most of the singing.
Only recently Seonghwa and Yunho have started showing what they're capable of, and hopefully Woo and Yeo will get the chance to do the same soon!
San can also go quite low, and Jongho can rap as well (though so far never in an official track, only for fun in videos), but their main focus is high notes.
They're all incredible dancers and performers, though you won't see Jongho dance much nowadays because of some nasty leg injuries he's had in the past few years. Even pre-debut he was an amazing dancer, he and all of us were really robbed :(
Also, if you can check out a short posted by Dingo. There was no music in the studio, all they had was in-ears playing the songs. The staff got to experience their vocals at full force :)

I think Mingis range is higher than we think. There are some clips of him singing Seonghwas or Jonghos part that are actually quite good 😳🥰

small addition here, killing voice as a series does use post production editing including pitch correction (autotune is just the name of one program people use to pitch correct) it's just not super heavy, so most people who aren't familiar with what it sounds like/are used to hearing it won't really know that unless they're told. nearly all live prerecorded shows use post production editing including its live, the first take, dingo killing voice, and lee mujin service. there's nothing wrong with it, it is industry standard, but it is a bit misleading to say that killing voice does not use autotune when you can hear the difference between the raw vocals posted on the dingo channel in their shorts video, and what was actually posted in the episode. autotune is not used to make bad singers sound good, it's most often used to polish tracks or performances to help them blend in better with the music and to create a smoother audio experience. their vocals, as seen in that short video are still very good raw, but smalll tweaks are still done in order to create a smooth product.
just a tip as a newbie to k-pop and ateez, if the captions say auto-generated it is probably best to not even turn them on because they are never correct. id only use captions that say english. it can be a little frustrating without captions but luckily most other content do have eng subs, just not this one lol. love your reaction and excited to see your atiny journey :))

They need to give us CCs on ever one of those. shoot. And actually if u do Korean to Eng its not too bad. at least u can understand way more than with no subs at all. so maybe try both ways and see what works for u. I loved using korean to Eng on Taemin's Killing Voice. Made it so much better for me. But to each their own.
@@hunterashley-musicreact yeah Dingo takes a while to put captions in their Killing Voice vids, sometimes months. I'll say some of the lines in the captions you turned on were right, but most of them were wildly off the mark 😅 so it's best to not pay them much mind. TVXQ's Killing Voice has automated captions but those are like 80% correct somehow, it's always a gamble tbh.
The Real is one of ATEEZ’s signature songs. They perform it a lot, at festivals and their concerts. The lyrics, humble and kindness, represent the kind of artists and humans they want to be. The MV is amazing and fun so I recommend watching it! Thank you for this reaction❤️

Yunho has a very versatile voice and he can blend-in a bit when you're new because of that (without video like this to show you it's him singing obvi)
As someone who's been here a while, I've noticed 'Ateez-style' is a lot looser than in other bands. it's more the energy and fullness of sound that I associate with them.

You actually did pretty well distinguishing their voices.
Jongho is the easiest because he belts high notes and has amazing runs.
Mingi and Yeosang have lower ranges (others can also sing low, but you can tell the difference between someone singing in the sweet spot of their range and someone singing on the lower edge). Yeosang does sound rounder. His voice is also textured; it's softer than a "gritty" voice. I'd describe it as feathery.
Hongjoong and Wooyoung do sing in their mask more than others, but Wooyoung less so (sometimes he can sound clean). Wooyoung has a softer voice with a child-like quality.
Seonghwa, Yunho, and San have broad ranges. Yunho was a vocal major and has the cleanest voice.
San's tone is versatile. He can sing pretty cleanly, but most often sings with a bit of texture at the end of phrases, and can go into full grittiness. He's also powerful enough to belt in harmony with Jongho and hold his own.
Seonghwa has a cry to his voice which makes him sound emotional.

if there is a note to be sung, yunho can hit it-doesn’t matter if it’s high or low 😅 honestly the more you watch their music videos and associate voices with faces it becomes much easier
11:11 no actually youre correct! Yunho has a very very wide range so when he leans more towards his lower range it sounds a lot like yeosang. yeosang specializes in low range so some people often mistake yunhos low range for yeosangs when we hear new music. seonghwa and san also have the same thing when they tap into their low range. those 4 have somehwat similar lower registers and it'll maybe take a bit to differentiate but when you do its also so incredibly easy to tell apart

I absolutely love all eight of them, they are vocally gifted. I might have a little bias towards Yunho as his speaking voice is BEAUTIFUL which lead me to really pay attention to his singing voice and man, he’s so versatile and smooth. But again, all eight are a gift to us!

11:09 so yunho and Yeosang can be confused for each other, Wooyoung and San too, and occasionally hongjoong and jongho. If I have no idea who’s singing, it’s seonghwa. I’ve been a fan since predebut, so I don’t often get them confused, but when I do it’s like this.
oh u NEED to react to 'the real', it was originally their final song for kingdom but they made a music video for it. 5/8 of them use their own Satoori(regional dialect) and the instrumental uses a korean traditional instrument, the song is so cool

As someone who has seen them twice in concert.... Their Vocals really are that good live! While they dance the way they do too! They are so stable! Their performance skills are insane!
You should also watch seventeen's killing voice as an introduction to them/their voices. Before Ateez's killing voice Seventeen's killing voice was the best.....They both are equally AMAZING!

If you want to hear Seonghwa do everything all in one song, search for his karaoke cover of Empty by Winner. He sings all the way through his range and raps (with Hongjoong and Jongho doing some backups and harmony). He starts off a little timid, but once he hits his stride he knocks it out the park.

when I first watched this I started crying at wave lol, the harmonies got me haha. Wave is really an anthem for us and them because they secured their first win with it!
7:00 yes wooyoung's voice is very light and airy! He's the only member who sings like that so it's very easy to pick him out (though i'd argue they all have very distinctive voices but as a new fan its HARD at first lol).
Yunho, Seonghwa, and Yeosang can sound similar but Yeosang has a lisp that sometimes pops out and he's a little chestier/throaty, Yunho is very clear and bright like a bell, Seonghwa is more nasally and just a tad on the raspier side.
Hongjoong and Jongho also sound similar but since HJ rarely sings (unless it's a cover song or he's covering for someone who's sick) you probably won't mix them up lol
San, Mingi, and Wooyoung all have very distinctive voices where as soon as you hear it you're like oh, I know who you are lol. Though at times, Wooyoung and Yunho can sound similar, especially when paired together because Yunho is a great mimic!

Pirate King and Treasure were their debut songs. Wave was their first music show win. There's a great Studio Choom performance of Fireworks - I'm the one and the It's Live version of Turbulence. They haven't done a relay dance in awhile but there's some great ones of older songs. I also love that you can tell they love their own songs.

Yeosang has the deepest voice in the group now even deeper than mingi and he just start using his deep voi like 2 years ago almost
As someone who also loves Yunho’s vocals I would highly suggest watching the cover he did earlier this year. It’s on the Ateez YT channel. Whether you react to it or listen on your own time it’s well worth it.

they sound incredible, right :') the way they use their vocals is so smart so that each of them gets to shine differently in every single song. like, it aint jumbled together weirdly but you can clearly _hear_ them. not to mention they only got banger songs🤭 if you want summer-y songs, you should listen to their fever albums!! they got pretty light songs on them that just makes you bask in the sunlight simply from listening (not exaggerated). like you experienced with their song "Fever" !!

San used to have a less raspy voice but he had vocal issues after 2 bouts of COVID and had to adjust how he sings (with a coach).

So Ateez has done the double title tracks since debut. Eternal Sunshine was paired with Deja Vu and Deja Vu won, actually. Highly recommend the guide by all of the Kennys and I think that the channel is updating the guide right now.

Someone might already have mentioned this but if there is a video that only has auto-generated captions I think you're better off not turning them on😊 I would say that 99% of the time they are very wrong so it will only make you more confused. Stick to the captions that only say "English" and stay away from the auto-generated ones.
This is the main reason that non-korean fans start to learn korean cause either it takes a little while for translations to be added and we can't wait, or we don't get any at all💔I think all official content (from the groups themselves) has translations, cause they know that they have a lot of global fans, but when it comes from other sources (or if it is live content) it usually takes a little while.

Because I think there are many girl groups out there that you would like. I wanted to recommend the girl group (G)idle. Because many fans say that if they are a fan of straykids or ateez, they are also a fan of (G)idle. Maybe because they three groups are self produced! The English captions were auto generated so they got the translation wrong like, 50% of the time. Luckily most of these songs have amazing music videos that you can watch with the official English subtitles that are more correct. After you do that you will probably also add turbulence to your Emo playlist because the lyrics for that one are about as Emo as it could possibly be. Also 해적왕 translates into Pirate King and was their Debut song. Which was why they said it was their beginning, even though Treasure was off the same album.
