In the mid-1970s, a series of purported supernatural events took place in a small, yellow, wooden slatted house in a suburb of Bridgeport, Connecticut. At a time when demonic forces were very much in vogue, the Goodin family were plagued by all manner of phenomena that quickly drew the attention of the national press, along with thousands of curious onlookers. Despite the contemporary fervour that it sparked and the similarities to several other, far more well traversed, supernatural tales such as Amityville in America, or Enfield in the UK, the events that took place in Bridgeport in the mid-70s have, remarkably, managed to slip largely under the radar, cloaked from wider public attention. Less glamorous but no less fantastic, the case of the Lindley Street haunting, officially struck off as a hoax before a swift U-turn by the authorities, remains as one of the most dramatic and well documented cases in the history of the American Supernatural to this day.

Definetely subscribed! This kept me intrigued. My mom grew up near Lindley street when her and her friend Evelyn would walk to and from school. She once saw someone that was following them walk in back of that house. My mom stopped and started to follow her when she took the corner no one was there. Some pretty creepy things have gone on there! Awesome stuff 🤙🏼

    This is a TRUE STORY!
My mothers former husband who was in the real estate business was called to check out this property located at 966 Lindely Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Little is known about this haunted house but back in the 70s it got some media coverage for a little while and police and reporters happened to be there on the scene that day. There was supposedly a young girl who was adopted and practiced witchcraft and the television and other items in the home were said to levitate and most shocking of all rumors of a talking cat that cursed at people and said awful things was said to be there. Not to mention the 9 on the house number sometimes would turn around and be 666 which was really creepy. My moms husband was a skeptic until he himself actually said he saw the cat and it swore at him and its eyes did glow and he saw things flying around the house. This actually DID happen.....it's hard for people to believe but he couldn't believe it himself. Ed and Lorraine Warren also were involved in this case so i'm surprised a movie hadn't been made about it yet. A lot of people were skeptical about this story but my moms husband who once thought paranormal stuff was just for movies...swore that what he witnessed was real and the cat did talk.

I was 14 yrs old and lived less than 10 mins away from this house. Our next door neighbor was a cop and we were also friends with (as I remembered) a couple cops and firemen at that time. We heard first hand about some of the crazy things that happened. I feel that something strange was actually happening but some of the rumors became distorted as they past from mouth to ear. We were also familiar with the Warren's around that decade (they visited my uncle's house) and in my opinion they exaggerated things a bit.

0:15 That’s why I find it very difficult to believe any of these accounts. Thanks to films like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, the occult was now made “fashionable”. Movies and novels kept feeding the fire created by all this interest. The Amityville Horror was probably the worst example of this big rush to scare ourselves to death. Thank you for posting this very fascinating story though. Excellent job.

ed and Lorraine really hurt their credibility when the Amityville story was exposed by the victims. i had to laugh when i saw lorraine on a show, i cant remember if it was paranormal state or ghost adventures, but anyway she walked into a house and proclaimed "i feel a sinister presence" only to have the host say "we arent in the right section of the house yet".

My Grandparents lived two blocks away from this address, on Anson street. I'm old enough to remember driving past 966 Lindley street and seeing mobs of reporters out there around the time this haunting occured
I grew up in Bridgeport and to this day I sometimes go for a ride past 966 Lindley street. In fact, just a few months ago, someone moved in right next door to 966 Lindley Street. Not only that but at that same time they replaced the roof on 966 Lindley Street. Also, every so often that house does go on the market. No hauntings reported since that time in the early 70s.
There is nothing haunted about this house. In fact when this 'Haunting' occured, they were building condos right behind their property which the homeowner didn't like. That's the reason for this haunting nonsense.
The only unique thing about 966 Lindley as well as 968 Lindley street is that they look identical and are the ugliest, smallest houses on Lindley street. Go onto google earth and you will see what I mean.

He also went to school with the girl and said she was quiet and weird.

My opinion is that these stories are motivated reasoning overlaid onto fables. The poltergeist story is meant to tell us about the importance of family bonds. The sense in which the poltergeist is a literal truth is that it is made into a supernatural force when we fail in building and maintaining family bonds. By ignoring the real world problems with real world solutions, we allow demons to take hold. Instead of addressing the problems, we blame the demons.
So, yes, poltergeist are real. But it takes a lot more than a mystical incantation to get rid of them.

Its the only thing about Hysteria . it sends people mad and quite judgmental , some for and some against ...and when it comes to paranormal it can either take it out of proportion or make it severely underestimated ..all the more energy to play around with and mess with peoples minds , perfect just what it intended ! you could go in all minds about this case it can go any which way , no one really knows the truth do they ? except for the "victims " or were they? something for you to ponder for many years to come LOL..either , way thankyou for this awesome episode and information :)
