First time I open a video about sumo, just because I'm watching Hinomaru, I never imagined it happening.
That pull out right at the end instead of sending the opponent flying out of the ring shows the amount of great professional respect these two have for each other. He knew he won and didnt see the need to humilate his opponent; very Bushi

I made it to Japan and got to see the Yomiuri Giants, no sumo though.
Being there and hearing the thump of their feet and the those slaps will rattle you. It's really amazing go see live. These men are a absolute titans.

I was reading Sumotori from Gial Tsukiyama and im really amazed with Sumo. Years of training and learning different techniques for an ultimate showdown that lasts a couple of seconds. This is amazing. Congratulations to both Yokuzuna

Although many things are always exaggerated in anime to make them look way cooler, I have to admit, it really made me appreciate real sumo better too. You only have a few seconds sometimes to make or break your entire match. Good focus, reflexes, strength, etc. are musts.

The technique "kaina wo kaesu" that Hakuho displayed at the end was a move where he pulled the opponent's left hand grip while releasing his own right hand grip, thrusting his arm upwards to disrupt the opponent's center of gravity and make them rise up. Sumo has many such intricate and powerful techniques. The sport is filled with subtle yet devastatingly effective moves like this one.

Before I read hinomaru sumo. I never understood sumo wrestlers. It always bothered me as to why they'd eat so much food and gain so much weight. Infact I thought they were obese. After reading hinomaru sumo, I've begun to see these people with respect. They uphold their nation's traditions and have intense dedication to the sport. That's all I wanted to say

That was more 'professional wrestling' than it was Sumo.
+swapsplat of course it was a show match. It's a free outdoor match but it still has religious significance when done at shrines as opposed gymnasiums for one-off events.

I never thought of it that way, but if you put 2 and 2 together it would be a pretty accurate way to guestimate his height and weight, I just youtubed Mongolian horses and there small. so if he was a good horseman theres no way on gods green earth that Genghis Khan could weigh as much as these fuckin guys, seein how they average about 350 pounds, but regardless of there weight most are actually in great shape. After the match is over, are the sumo athletes allowed to walk over and congrat each other out of respect (hug, handshake, etc.) in the ring? Or do they have to leave the ring immediately?
After the match is over, the sumo wrestlers are expected to leave the ring immediately, without showing any emotion or interacting with their opponent.
They are trained to maintain a stoic and dignified demeanor at all times, especially in the ring.
