Everything else is collected within Mutant Massacre Prelude, Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants and the single issue of Marvel Fanfare #40 is in Inferno Prelude.
I’m a bit surprised the letter pages & introductions are in the Prelude Omni because I thought that stuff was only in the numbered volumes. Secret Wars 2 is definitely gonna get a reprint at some point. Gonna be frank the only thing going for X-Factor Vol 1 is Mephisto vs 2, there’s no masterworks so no letters or intros, that’s all it has & even that story along with 3 should’ve been in Mutant Massacre.🤷🏻♂️

I went with X-Factor for the extra Mephisto issue, as I can't easily sell my UXM 5 to replace it with the more complete book (Mutant massacre prelude).
I am an X-Men event omni collector all the way! Marvel scammed me by releasing Uncanny Vol. 5 and conveniently not explaining that the event omnis would be a separate line, so I'll be selling my Uncanny 5 and picking up Mutant Massacre Prelude - But why did Marvel make the spine white?
They probably weren’t a separate line to begin with, they likely got it into their heads that if they could sell 10 vols of Conan maybe they could try it with the big titles, never mind that Conan *needed* to be pumped out because they were on the clock & even then they didn’t reach the end with Savage Sword.🙃 Hence Uncanny 5 and the clear revisionist attitude towards Massacre-Jim Lee vol 2, that didn’t end well with the *real* gap filler in Prelude to the Massacre, the true Uncanny 5.

Great video and great to see these actually in the flesh. Gonna need to clear some shelf space. The X-Factor one has been pushed back so many times, wondered if it would ever happen. This title vs event is a real dilemma for me. I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford both but it doesn’t answer the question which is the best way to read them…
With the Massacre Prelude & soon to be released X-Tinction Agenda X-Factor is largely collected in the “event books”, if they release say a X-Factor: Judgement War omnibus then that would give us all of the original X-Factor in the omnis that would already be out there. The only thing missing from the “event” books from what I can see right now is Mephisto vs 2 & maybe a story from Fanfare #40 that takes place after, I hope Marvel doesn’t use these individual stories as a carrot on a stick to get people to buy these books over ones that are already well collected and widely owned elsewhere but odds are they will🙄. If you *oooonly* care for X-Factor & don’t already have other books then probably get X-Factor but bear in mind ultimately these guys become X-Men again & that journey is soon be to collected in its entirety between X-Men & X-Factor through the “event” books all the way to Jim Lee Vol 2. Once upon a time they weren’t “event” books for a reason, and with X-Tiction Agenda & the prelude book *still aren’t* .
@@g-roy23 thank you very much. I’ve got all the other books but just haven’t got round to reading them yet - maybe watch less comics TH-cam videos - but that X-Factor Omni is looking more and more redundant. Might still get it though!! You know how it is!!
@@garyfoster65 You’re welcome mate. I’m the same, been waiting on that gap between Uncanny 4 & Massacre since they reprinted all those books 2-3 years. Got Uncanny 5, then Prelude got announced…🥲 Soon as I get Prelude I’ve got a big X binge from X-Factor 1-8 to Jim Lee 1 coming up, never mind Excalibur, New Mutants & Wolverine. Gonna be a heck of a time😂…
So will the volume omnis stay at volume 5? Even though it kinda double dips with this new prelude? And doesn't the X-Tinction omni fall in between the two Jim Lee omnis?
Marvel has made it seem like they will continue with numbered volumes and also do event omnis. So they will double dip, but you can choose how you collect. Personally haven’t heard about a vol 6 though.
I'm getting annoyed with X-Factor. When I preordered it, CGN said it would be out on July 26, then it was pushed back a week, now it's saying Sept 3rd. -_- to answer your question, X-Factor over Prelude. I already have X-Men 5 and NM2, so there's not point in getting the Prelude book. In fact, I just recently read everything I needed leading up to Mutant Massacre except for X-Factor. Once I get the Omni, I will read through the 8 issues so I can finally dive into MM.
I Had to sell my Uncanny 5 omni when I heard about the prelude book. So annoyed by all the double dipping from Marvel you need to spend hours figuring it all out.
It’s sad they’ve retroactively branded all the books they reprinted, combined and reprinted by demand as “event books” and treated them like a B Line just to prop up the unnecessary further numbered volume$ as *the* way to collect things. Because “Prelude to the Massacre” & “Inferno Prologue” were my favourite “events”.🙃
I really don't mind the double dipping because I just won't buy the double-ups most of the time, what they did with Uncanny Vol 5 was just dirty though. There was a lot of backlash so I hope marvel got the memo, if they pull something like that again I'm not sure if it'll be worth it to preorder anymore.
I’m so torn on this because I have all of the other event Omnis but I’ve always loved X-Factor with the Simonsons. I hate to admit it, but I’m probably am going to get both.
I actually avoided getting sucked into the Uncanny Omnis since about the time I started was with what’s in Prelude anyway. The event books “pretty much” have everything I want with the exception of a good chunk of X-factor, New Mutants, and their totally screwed mapping that excluded X-tinction Agenda.
Already got all the X-Men Omni's, hard pass on the X-Factor. They should've did the X-Factor Omni during the first couple X-Men Omni releases. I would pick up X-Factor Omni 2 however if it contains the issues that come after Inferno.
So, I’m looking to work my way thru the Claremont UXM run (at least thru issue 200 or so since I loved that stuff as a kid). I have ZERO interest in X-Factor or non Claremont scripted X-Men stories. So, I’m not sure what to do after X-Men Omni 4. Will everything in Omni 5 make sense if I skip the X-Factor stuff and other tie ins? Is Omni 5 just building up to MM and I’ll be left of a Cliffhanger? Do all the crossovers between 210 and 280 require complex mapping and reading a bunch of issues from titles I’m not interested in? Trying to figure out what to do after Omni 4 and what off-ramps might work out best for my collecting preferences. Thanks!
I’d highly recommend reading the X-factor issues. There is a lot of crossover between the two so you will be missing out on a lot of important plot points.
@@BrettAAicherincluding the prologue stuff in the prelude onmi that isn’t in Omni 5? I don’t mind an occasional crossover (ie New Mutant Special Edition with UXM Annual). But having to read this much extra is what is making me want to quit with 209. The non stop crossovers just doesn’t seem to be something I would enjoy…
@@raymondmarier8340 some of the stuff is definitely worth skipping in my opinion (i.e. nightcrawler mini and longshot etc.) but I feel the X-factor issues are pretty essential going forward)
The return of Jean Grey, Apocalypse, Archangel etc. It’s all core X-Men material & everything ultimately leads to the Jim Lee years & beyond with the Blue & Gold teams so while it may not be Claremont tier it’s all I feel one big narrative.
@Gem Mint if I knew the Mutant Massacre Prelude was coming, I would have waited to get it instead of buying the Uncanny X-Men Vol. 5 Omni. Right now, I have the Uncanny Vol. 5 & the X-Factor Vol. 1 Epic Collection. I don't know if I should give Vol. 5 away and get the Prelude Omni just to have the 1st 8 X-Factor issues in oversized format??? But on the bright side my Red Sonja Savage Sword Sideshow statue arrived today, damn that thing was bigger than I thought it would be. It almost didn't fit the space I had for it. Red Sonja connects to the base very well and I don't think there will be any problems with it leaning. Great job by Sideshow!
@@GemMintCollectibles It's a beautiful statue and it's Huuge! And I remember in your preview you worried about leaning, I don't think that will be a problem. It is solid.
Hey Gem mint I know this is off topic but I’m about to get the mini spot lights to light my 1/3 scale prime ones 2 on top and 2 on bottom. My question is what do you suggest warm white or cool white light?
Prelude made the X-Factor Omni pointless unless you really want the letters pages. I'm going with the Prelude. I'm just thankful I never bought Uncanny Vol. 5.
I got Uncanny X-Men volume 5 last year, which has Uncanny X-Men 194-209. I'm fine with that. I don't care that much about the early X-Factor issues. I think I'd rather just stick with what I have.
I’d go a step further and just make it a X-Factor: Judgement War omnibus for those issues between Inferno & X-Tinction Agenda, New Mutants 3 & soon 4 cover post inferno & pre X-Force for the New Mutants.
@@nelsoncarvalho6338 I think when it comes to New Mutants it was inevitable that Vol 3 was gonna double dip quite a bit just because the title was so involved in the big X narratives back to back unlike Excalibur, outside of that spell and Asgardian wars you’ve still got a bunch of value in the rest of the New Mutants line when they wrap it up with 4. I’d honestly just keep it mate, specially if you’re interested in the Cable stuff leading into X-Force, unless you’re struggling for room but then you’re hoping for post inferno New Mutants which I’m not really sure we need now. Double dipping I think is a case by case thing rather than an all in one thing & doesn’t always need to be treated like the plague.
@@g-roy23 I have all the mutant omnis so for selfish reason I want to get rid of massive double dips and save shelf space. I agree it doesn’t make the most practical sense.

Or the Mutant Massacre Prelude book makes Uncanny 5 unnecessary, it did come out a little over a year later & pretty much was what people wanted in order to fill the remaining gap between Uncanny 4 & Mutant Massacre, if anything it was completely necessary to complete this huge reading order for X-Men up to Jim Lee 1.
Got Uncanny 5, then Prelude got announced…🥲
Soon as I get Prelude I’ve got a big X binge from X-Factor 1-8 to Jim Lee 1 coming up, never mind Excalibur, New Mutants & Wolverine.
Gonna be a heck of a time😂…
@@g-roy23you and me both. Don’t know how old you are but I’m not sure I’ve got long enough left!!!
@@garyfoster65 If Jess the OmniDog can make it so can we.🙌
🤔Yo screw the budget,, I'm gettin' both. ☝If i had 2 pick 1 = Going series Omni's = X-Factor
to answer your question, X-Factor over Prelude. I already have X-Men 5 and NM2, so there's not point in getting the Prelude book. In fact, I just recently read everything I needed leading up to Mutant Massacre except for X-Factor. Once I get the Omni, I will read through the 8 issues so I can finally dive into MM.
Im a X-men omni addict. I'll take both.
Mutant Massacre sounds wicked.
Hold on, isn't prelude to mutant massacre double dipping on X-Men 5 by Chris Claremont? It's got X-men #194-209 as well...
Yea it does. So it’s an event vs volumes with X-men as well
I Had to sell my Uncanny 5 omni when I heard about the prelude book.
Yea I feel like it’s an acceptable double dip lol
Remember if you have Uncanny 5 there is no reason to get the prelude. Especially if you’re getting X factor too.
I mean if he has Massacre to Inferno already then he needs the prelude book considering it’s what we should’ve had over uncanny 5.
@@originalseeker Sounds like the X-Tinction Agenda Omni is right up your street.
Really wished they release a Mutant X Omnibus -- HAVOK!!! Goblin Queen Vampire Storm
Already got all the X-Men Omni's, hard pass on the X-Factor. They should've did the X-Factor Omni during the first couple X-Men Omni releases. I would pick up X-Factor Omni 2 however if it contains the issues that come after Inferno.
Hear me out.
X-Factor: Judgment War omnibus?
LFG 160K 🔜 200K 🤌🏽
More I need to pick up
They censored an issue in the Prelude.
I'm on the fence about getting it
@Gem Mint if I knew the Mutant Massacre Prelude was coming, I would have waited to get it instead of buying the Uncanny X-Men Vol.
Really wanted RS but I know I don’t really have any connection to the character
@@GemMintCollectibles It's a beautiful statue and it's Huuge!
And I remember in your preview you worried about leaning, I don't think that will be a problem. It is solid.
i only buy trades but i really enjoy these overviews man
Hey Gem mint I know this is off topic but I’m about to get the mini spot lights to light my 1/3 scale prime ones 2 on top and 2 on bottom. My question is what do you suggest warm white or cool white light?
Which ever one looks white and not yellow. I’ve always used LED strip lights, so not sure which is which with the spot lights
@@GemMintCollectibles sweet that would be the cool white. Warm white looks yellow
As much as I love oversized format, X-Men Omnibus are confusing, I prefer Epics for reading order
Prelude made the X-Factor Omni pointless unless you really want the letters pages. I'm going with the Prelude. I'm just thankful I never bought Uncanny Vol. 5.
i was so focused on the x-factor double dipped, didn't even think to pull out UXM5... but yea, huge double dip there
So if i was to sell my vol 5 and pickup the prelude, would vol 4 go right into the prelude to mutant massacre?
A lot of double dipping in vol 5. It does seem like an either or type of situation
Prelude contains all of Uncanny X-Men Vol. 5
I got Uncanny X-Men volume 5 last year, which has Uncanny X-Men 194-209. I'm fine with that. I don't care that much about the early X-Factor issues. I think I'd rather just stick with what I have.
Is there any ghost rider omnibus? If so are they worth reading or is it a hard read?
There is ghost rider by Jason Arron which isn’t a good read and cosmic ghost rider. Danny ketch ghost rider omnibus coming this year
Juice
Did he just call the pre-Massacre team the Outback X-Men?
Probably… was thinking FotM
If im trying to get all the uncanny xmem omnis do I need that mutant massacre prelude omn 😩
Na. Either collect volumes or event Omnis
niceee
yo wtf that X-Factor Omni is THICK!!
The event omnis all the way. I hope we get an inferno aftermath omnibus with just new mutant and factor issues.
I’d go a step further and just make it a X-Factor: Judgement War omnibus for those issues between Inferno & X-Tinction Agenda, New Mutants 3 & soon 4 cover post inferno & pre X-Force for the New Mutants.
@@g-roy23 but I want to get rid of my new mutants vol 3 omni bc it's 2/3 double dipping with the event omnis
A lot of the prelude omni issues are in the Uncanny vol. 5 omnibus. I hate that. Might just go the X-Factor route up until the Peter David omnibus
Because the prelude book is what we should’ve had instead of Uncanny 5 to completely close the gap from Uncanny 1 all the way to Jim Lee.
@@g-roy23Here you go again. Why does everyone have to conform to what you want? They're are those of us that collect numbered runs. We don't go around saying that event collectors shouldn't get the books that they want.
@@yunoyuluvit We weren’t “event collectors” until someone in the office had the bright idea to be inconvenient in a big way at one of the final hurdles.
Fact & the matter is Massacre Prelude is what *should* have come out instead of Uncanny 5 & do remember that Uncanny 5 was going to be smaller than what it eventually was & *then* just over a year later they then announce prelude….lets not be revisionist about all this like Marvel mate, that whole situation bothered a *lot* of people for a reason including folk in the Near Mint circle & Marvel definitely learned that the hard way.
If Marvel badly wanted to release *purely* Uncanny omnis past the point where they’d already made a ton of effort of reprinting, combining and rebranding other books in quick succession due to popular demand for I would think very clear reasons then honestly that idea needs to sit on a shelf until the content in the form that it has already taken is complete and *then* Marvel can try to experiment with other options.
What we have now unfortunately is a messy situation where people are questioning their collections and their potential purchases more than they should need to & that’s just not right, everything was pretty chill 2+ years or so ago.

If I have uncanny x man vol 5 , is it dumb to get prelude? I just think it will look cool in bookshelf also 😂 great review 👍
Well you could get this and sell 5. But everything in 5 is in this, so you don't need both. If you get X-Factor you don't need this.
Get X-Factor Vol. 1 and you'll save money. It is cheaper than Prelude.
50 seconds into the video - Oh well… money is already spent…
Between Uncanny X-Men vol. 5 & the new X-Factor omnis, the Mutant Massacre Prelude book is 100% double dip & unnecessary.
Marvel just decided to be a certain way without any transparency because there was *clearly* no actual long term plan until very recent or a *big* change in course which has ultimately left a lot of folk feeling a bit unsure about their collection.
You could go further & say the X-Omnis Marvel made the effort in reprinting, combining or rebranding in quick succession make X-Factor unnecessary too.🤷🏻♂️
Xmen Event omnis for sure more, your getting a better story overall, and the xfactor og team is a dud team, there's a reason the og xmen got canceled
The event Omnis doesn’t have the masterworks scan for uncanny X-men.
Doesn't it have the same scans as volume 5 though?
It looks like the prelude has letter and intro pages too…
@@EffigeeWhiz the prelude might have the scans but I know the other event Omnis do not have them.

If you have Uncanny X-men Vol 5, you don't need Prelude to Mutant Massacre; it already double dips.
