Hi I have installed the 90000 screenMatic 2 set 8 weeks ago all running good water test all good my question is the top sponges are only half covered water level only goes up to outlet. This was installed on my original pond so not new clean water so do I leave it before cleaning flushing out till the water reaches the first level on back plate? Water dose look dirty round sponges but coming out of outlet clear. Hope this makes sence as my old box had to clean once a week and add Bio gel .
Brian Wicks NOTE: firstly, it is essential that the pond is completely clean before installing the filter. The final water level is not reached in the container until the bacteria are established and the filter be- comes fully effective. • New foam filters take 3 to 4 weeks to reach their full biological cleaning effect. The water level is initially lower; the foam filters are not completely covered by the water. The filter may overflow while the beneficial bacteria colonies are being established. Do not clean the foam filters for 3 to 4 weeks. • The biological cleaning effect ceases at temperatures under 10 °C. In addition to the mechanical ‘sieving’ of the water and the resultant impediment of the water-flow, microbes will colonise the filter foams and surfaces of the filter, which results in lipids (fatty acids) being deposited. These lipids will further cause the water level to rise. Regularly dose the filter with OASE BioKick Premium for enhanced bacteriological filtration results! I hope this information helps.
Paul Hines They are filled with ammonia remover (zeolite) and will be exhausted within six months. Throw the zeolite away and replace with PhosLess. Be sure to dose the filter with a live filter bacteria supplement when you do so.
Morgan Moe I have in the past week installed a 140000 model, which is the biggest in the range. Today I serviced a 90000 like the one in the video. They’re great filters systems. Make sure you select the correct model for your pond.
@@richardfulfordfishlifepond89 Thanks for the response, Richard. Is it possible to "over size" it. My current pond is only 5000L but I do plan to expand. Is it wrong to purchase a 24 or 38 now so that "my pond can grow into it"?
Morgan Moe Over-sizing a filter system rarely ever happens, though under-sizing is common ! The BioTec ScreenMatic2 range starts at 40,000 and goes up to 140,000. As a guide, take the 40,000 - it is suitable for a fish-less pond UP TO 40,000 litres. If there are fish present, then it becomes suitable for a pond UP TO 20,000 litres. If there are koi present, then the filter is suitable for a pond UP TO 10,000 litres. Choose the one model suitable for your pond based on this, and then buy the one size up! Hope I’ve helped.
Thank you for the very informative video video I have one question would a Oase BioTec ScreenMatic Set 60000 filter keep an 1800 gallon koi pond clear pond size 11x7x4 feet deep approx Thank you
DXB DXB Your pond has a volume of about 8200 litres. The 60000 BioTec Screenmatic probably isn’t quite man enough for your pond. I strongly recommended the 90000 set, which comes with a Bitron C ultraviolet clarifier (2x55 watts of uv). Richard.
FishLife Hello Richard again I’m just about to order the biotec 90000 Screenmatic2 just before I order it I wanted to ask is this the best filter for my size of koi pond and do you install any other makes of filters that you would recommend my only concern is the foams will get blocked up fairly quickly also could I swap the foams for any other type of media like k1
DXB DXB. If you want the best and would like a super clean and clear pond, then I recommend you consider the Oase BioTec Premium compact high performance filter. All the best.
Thank you Richard. This is the first how to vid I've found about this model thats useful. I'm about to switch from a Biosmart 36 to this but the plumbing is totally different. Are you still happy with the filter?
Thank you for your comment. I install a lot of FiltoClears for my clients. It’s important to understand the capabilities of the FiltoClear. They are excellent filter systems when installed as a kit, and if installed correctly. Take the 20,000 Set for example, the ‘20000’ means that the system is suitable for a fish-less pond UP TO 20,000 litres. If fish are present then one must half the filter’s capabilities to 10,000 litres. And if there are koi present, then one must halve it again. So the 20,000 model is suitable for a pond of up to 5000 litres if koi are present. But 5000 litres is arguably too small for koi anyway ☝🏼 The FiltoClear must be installed on a clean pond. The pump will efficiently send remove solids from suspension and send them to the filter. This means that the foams will need backwashing (as demonstrated in my video) regularly, perhaps as much as weekly. The filter system will keep the pond clean, but you must regularly backwash the filter, because once the foams are saturated with organics, there’s no room left to trap any more. In a nutshell, backwash weekly or bi-weekly spring to autumn ✅
Thanks for clearing that up. I understand the working of these filters, my current one is pretty high maintenance without the prefilter like yours, hence the interest. My setup is 10.000 liters and 6 medium sized koi. At the moment it runs perfect for about 3.5 years now, no algae and good waterconditions year round. The bottom is visible at 1.5 mtrs so no major issues there. The current filter however is suited up to 9000 ltrs stocked, I would like to double that with the 90.000 and reduce the amount of solids going into the biological foams. I'm also upgrading the Bitron C 18W uv to a 36W wich would be, in my opinion, more effective. If there was more space to work with I would go with the 140.000 but it is simply to big. As mentioned before only the plumbing needs some additional work to get it all in place, no problem. Your reply is much appreciated and keep us updated, Cheers from Holland, Raymond
Snoekvisser1972 Raymond, forgive me, I thought I was making reference to a different video (about pressurised FiltoClears). So sorry. The 90,000 BioTec Screenmatic2 is an awesome bit of kit. The 90,000 should do a good job of keeping your 10,000 litre pond super clean. But you need the kit, so that everything is married-up. Hope that makes sense.
Hi Richard just came across your really helpful video. I have had the Oase system outlined in this video installed in a new pond for about three months (no fish) and the water is very clear. However, all of a sudden the water level inside the unit has gone up significantly (the collection tray is now submerged). I have tried cleaning but no luck. Any ideas?
Andre Crawford They are not difficult to install, but I would encourage you to seek advice, particularly where selection of the right model is concerned. Richard
FishLife I have a small business myself, i was an authorised installer for oase last year but i’ve never installed one of these! just the small filtration systems really, i do know a bit about them but never installed, do you have any tips whilst installing buddy?

Hi Do you have to clean the round filters at the front ? Thanks

How often do you have to empty the coarse debris tray? The tray seems to be small. I have a lot of leaves and a lot of sludge.
Thanks for demonstration
Its been two years since this post, how has this device lasted? Is it still your choice for those wanting a similar style of filter?

Noworries mate. It does make sense. I ordered the 90.000 today from a company in Germany, saves me €300 compared to Dutch prices. Ouch...

would this filter be good for a biological lake / biological pool?
Thanks!
Yes, yes it would be.
does this unit have a UV?
