Many people have suggested that fewer teams (currently 20) should play in the Rugby world cup. They contend that the lower ranked teams have no chance anyway, and that the 'runaway' scores achieved by the top ranking teams against low ranking teams skews player stats. While this may be mostly true and upsets are rare, they do occur and make for incredible glory for those teams and their supporters. Japan, for example saw a lasting improvement in their rankings after beating South Africa once. In 1995 (West) Samoa made it to the quarter finals. In addition to following the Springboks patriotically, I also like to follow the matches of the underdogs - it's good rugby.

As a S.A.'n I burned my springbok jersey in 2020 when the players were forced to take a knee. Our people are so patheticly in love when it comes to their sport that they would sign over their freedoms as long as they can watch the game on weekends...
South Africa is one of the best teams on the planet. It’s our sport. 😂. It’s like Europe and Football. Our local divisions (lions, sharks, bulls) are teams that win again against countries/national teams.
I would love to see the USA top Foot ball team play rugby against the Springboks in Rugby. Love to hear what the players would say about the different between the two sports
Don't right yourselves out just yet! I've been watching Major League Rugby and you guys have got some pretty solid US players in your ranks playing in teams like the Houston SaberCats, New England Free Jacks, Seattle Seawolves and Nola Gold. US rugby will become a force to recon with. With a little time and effort, Team USA could be in the top 5 world rankings.
The USA has the potential to be a real force to be reckoned with in Rugby. You just need to invest more and sign on a decent coaching team that has great experience. You have good players but they don't have someone that can assist in developing their rugby skills. The USA sevens rugby team is already doing a good job because it seems a lot of focus and attention went towards the sevens rugby tournaments. They just need to do the same with 15-men rugby as well.
God you are so freaking funny. Things have gotten better for the Land of the Free. Surely now they can hold their arm, not beat the Springbok but they can give them a run for their Rand.
The world cup belongs to 3 countries, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Rugby worl cup will always be won in the Southern Hemisphere that is what the legend says.
Also as a south African like you guys play NFL we do rugby we are known as the most feared team in the world. If I may go look at rugby big hit takkels and springbok rugby fights. Oja that helmet is not a helmet just a soft padding around the head it's a choice if we want to play with it the same with a mouth guard is a personal choice if we want to play with it or not
@ 2:32 you ask 'what is this guy in the middle?' Well better question is WHO? That is Bismarck Du Plessis, probably the best hooker (nr2) ever to play the game, also 1 of the hardest ever to play the game. Also, that guy that like you say scored 5 tried, that is Bryan Habana, probably the 2nd best ing of all time JUST behind Jona Lomu, he is the Springboks all time highest try scorer in tests and the all time 2nd highest test try scorer of all time
You've got completely the wrong reaction to the game. This was a huge learning opportunity for the USA team. The Springboks are right up there among the top two or three teams in world rugby, and at this moment (November 2024) are world champions. Rugby is not just the national game in South Africa, it's almost a religion. The USA had nothing to be ashamed of. They played with passion, they were all heart. But their skill and power levels could be no match for the Springboks. It won't always be like this. Rugby is gaining great popularity in the USA, and its only a matter of time before the national team starts achieving significant results. I've seen it happen with Italy and, even more markedly, Argentina. Rugby is a terrific game which unites nations, fans and players in camaraderie, unlike soccer which seems to end up with fans fighting eachother (in England and Europe anyhow).

If the US prioritized rugby a bit they woukd be quite a force... I mean some of those NFL prospects could do something if they played rugby and American football from day one.
If you think they were good then, you should see them now. Two world cups back to back and magnificent performances after that against good teams. If only we could govern South Africa like we play Rugby.
As a S.A.'n I burned my springbok jersey in 2020 when the players were forced to take a knee. Our people are so patheticly in love when it comes to their sport that they would sign over their freedoms as long as they can watch the game on weekends...
In Rugby if there is a 5% difference in the teams that percentage seems to grow exponentially as the game goes on..
south africa my home we is good
South Africa is one of the best teams on the planet. It’s our sport. 😂. It’s like Europe and Football. Our local divisions (lions, sharks, bulls) are teams that win again against countries/national teams.
Oof sorry bout that bro 🤣, funny thing is I'm South African and never heard of this match till now but yeah, that was slaughter lol 👀
7foot has good vibe🙌✨🇺🇸
Springboks!! They are our Gladiators in Green & Gold 🇿🇦🇿🇦
You should watch the USA rugby 7’s team, they are actually pretty good!
Rugby getting bigger the world over, the US will be a behemoth in Rugby if you can promote it over in the states. Love....South Africa.
"Gyaaat, look at that guy"....😂
The world cup belongs to 3 countries, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Rugby worl cup will always be won in the Southern Hemisphere that is what the legend says.
"Couldn't catch Couldn't if he tried" 😂😂😂
The irony is that 2015 was possibly our lowest point in Springbok history. We only started picking up again in 2018 and continuously improving.
That no 8 is "THOR" VERMEELEN... 😂
Also as a south African like you guys play NFL we do rugby we are known as the most feared team in the world.
If I may go look at rugby big hit takkels and springbok rugby fights.
Oja that helmet is not a helmet just a soft padding around the head it's a choice if we want to play with it the same with a mouth guard is a personal choice if we want to play with it or not
This was like a comedy show😂. I applaud America for trying.
