Melanie is known for being a multi-hyphenate she's a singer-songwriter, actress, director, screen-writer, music producer, MV/Film editor, fashion designer, choreographer, MUA, Photographer, Magazine editor and the list goes on! her debut album "CryBaby" is literally a cultural reset I'm lowkey surprised that you've never heard about her before. Both her albums Crybaby and K-12 are Concept albums + Visual albums and she portrays a character named Crybaby which is the fairytale version of her own self all these subjects that she writes about are not necessarily about herself but also about the things that she sees and witnesses happening in the world and she thinks it's not being talked about enough so basically she loves storytelling and does it in a perfect way through a character's lens! mel says that creating art either it's writing a song or the script for a movie or a music video treatment is so therapeutic to her and her whole purpose in creating art is to help people heal and cope with it and something for them to resonate with. there's a MV for all 13 songs of Crybaby and you should definitely watch them in the chronological order (From Crybb to Mad Hatter) and you should definitely check out her sophomore album K-12 which is a sequel to Crybaby and it's accompanied by a feature length flim of the same name which melanie wrote, directed, designed and starred in! and last year she dropped an EP titled "After School" which contains the deluxe tracks from K-12 and the EP is quite personal and not necessarily about the character crybaby. So you should definitely check it all out!
a interesting thing about alphatbet boy is that the lines of the 2 verses are in "alphabetic order" A- Always Aiming paper Airplaines At me when you're around B- you Build me up like Building Blocks just so you can Bring me down C- you Can Crush my Candy Cane but you'll never see me Cry D- if you Dangle that Diploma and i Dead you don't be surprised A- Apples Aren't An Always Appropriate Apologies B- Butterscotch and Bubblegum drops are Bittersweet to me C- you Call me a Child while you keep Counting all your Coins D- but you're not my Daddy and I'm not your Dolly and your Dictionary's Destroyed
her albums are all connected into a storyline! crybaby is a visual album that connects, k-12 the second album is a movie she wrote, directed and starred in! after school is the only album by her that's completely personal and detached from the character ''crybaby'', also her most recent.
hi kingg, it's Marti-NEz, she has latin heritage and this album is so amazing, all songs have music videos, which are connected in order (from Cry Baby to Mad Hatter) and work as a prequel to their movie/album K-12
It drives me absolutely insane that people do album reactions LISTENING only, not watching the videos 😭 the videos are so so important to fully understand the context. There are videos for every song for that reason
omfg i love that you listened to this, its such a good album... the whole concept is actually genius to make it all very childish and also deep and dark, you should check some of her MV for this era, not even for a video, just cause they're really good lol its almost a visual album, a LOT of songs have videos, and they actually tell the story of the character 'Cry Baby', which is the same in her next album K-12 aswell
Mel's songs have stopped me from doing some stupid $h!t man I'm serious when I say she is so creative and amazing. Love you always and forever Melanie 💖

Seeing you listen to this album, and hearing the quality of the music through this video gave me chills and felt like I was listening to it for the first time all over again! Love it !!!
I’ve seen other cry babies comment here. I don’t know if anyone has said this but The albums do follow the character ‘CryBaby’, from what I know the storyline of this album stops at ‘Mad Hatter’ and then continues onto Melanie’s 2nd Album ‘k-12’. The extra tracks in the 1st album are still of the character but not so much attached to the storyline. Meanwhile, melanies ep ‘after school’ is an experimental project that is more personal to Melanie.
i love your reaction! i think this album is one of my favorite of everything, i think it's a whole experience when you listen for the first time. my favorite is cake, i love this song so much and i don't even know why lol. i think you should react or just listen to k-12, it's interesting too!
Hi I’am brazilian... Eu não entendi quase nada que falou no vídeo porque não falo inglês muito bem, mas assisti até o final porque amei o react❤️❤️ Melanie Martinez é minha cantora favorita
I just want to recommend that if you react to K-12 better watch the movie to it because it includes all songs and makes it much easier to understand the songs

I know it doesn’t say this, but because of the blur I can’t not see that it says ‘ASS’ on it. Or I dunno maybe it does say that lol. But the depth of field ducks with it just enough to make my eyes see ‘ASS’ and only ‘ASS’ lol
Hi, I know a lot of people ask you to react to things, but I would love to see you react to the EP called ALIAS by Shygirl (all the reviews for this EP are pretty weak) it rocks a lot
Melanie Martinez's music honestly makes my skin crawl. I don't mean to minimize any childhood trauma that she may have experienced; we all have had some amount of childhood trauma, and to say Melanie didn't have any is ridiculous. But she has said in interviews that she had a "very pleasant childhood with loving parents." And I don't mean to imply that you can't tell a story about trauma without having experienced that trauma firsthand. That would also be ridiculous. But the character she produces has such a shallow, impersonal, and vapid relationship with the supposed traumas that she is experiencing. She didn't experience the trauma herself, which again is not the issue, but she doesn't paint of a believable picture of someone that did. She makes the most unsubtle characachure of it. Take Dollhouse, for example, a song on the album that I find to be relatively less objectionable. It could have been a pretty cool peek behind the curtain, going through her parents and brother one by one and showing what everyone else sees vs. what she sees at home. The verse about the mom is what the entire song could be like. But no, instead we got "Mom, please wake up. Dad's with a slu- and your son's smoking cannibis." Okay, not the direction I would have gone, but there's still the potential for a good song there. She could have gone the route of showing that now that she's growing up, she's being pressured to put her doll's clothes on herself and sit on display. Or anything really at all about how living in a dollhouse is affecting her personally. Instead, all we get is a vague "One day they'll see what goes down in the kitchen," and a chorus that gets repeated one too many times. And that's what a lot of the album is. Detached. Impersonal. The songs that are more grounded in Melanie's personal life experience are allowed to shine more, and she could do more of that. But the ones where it is all character and no personality are the weakest. And Dollhouse is one of the better tracks. Then you have songs like Tag, You're It and Milk and Cookies, which are an awful take on kidnapping and abuse. If you're gonna write a song about that, you need to get the tone right. It almost has to be grounded and serious. Not hypnotic, playful, almost sexual at times. And because of how badly she characterizes trauma, the album doesn't come across as her character experiencing trauma, but _glamorizing_ it. It feels like cosplay. As a child SA victim, I absolutely dispise the approach and the execution. To be honest, the fact that she can even write a song like Dollhouse is baffling to me. This entire album and K-12 is her dressing up her trauma dolls, and she fails to see the irony of it. Here's an example of a song with a premise like Tag, You're It that I think is done well: I'm Sorry by Flyleaf. It's a different genre, but it is mature, serious, and evokes a visceral reaction in me whenever I hear it.
