    Great video. Enjoyed seeing the differences in the films. Would you recommend this as a first film camera? I'm currently looking into getting a 35mm and I don't know what to get quiet yet

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can find one in good condition (i.e., the electronics are working properly) then yes, I can recommend it. However, I prefer a more mechanical one like the Minolta SR-T series, Pentax K, or Canon FD mount cameras. They’re so barebones you get to learn a lot about photography like the dynamics between shutter speed, aperture and film ISO. Also, they’re tanks and are very sturdy.

    What's the difference between lenses that have "MD", "MD W.Rokkor", and "MD Rokkor X"?

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moon Sun Minolta went through several rebranding of their (SR) manual focus lens mount. MD Rokkor is older than simply MD. The X means it was sold in the Western market rather than Asia. The W means wide-angle. Hope this helps.

    Do you push and pull on the same roll of film and if so how do you develop it at +1 push or -1 pull? From my understanding it makes it difficult to get a good print if you go back and forth with pushing on the same roll.

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason Tulin hey, I tend to rate the photos +1 stop and develop for box speed. That way it’s more even throughout the roll and wouldn’t have to mess with pushing/pulling while developing. Sometimes, I would rate some photos at box speed on the same roll where I’ve over exposed for 1 stop, but only when, say I needed more light. But box speed is my limit of sorts.

      Bon Adriel ahh okay I understand. Thank you!

    Your camera just needs a simple cla and that will fix the film advance issue.

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teng Vang any place you’d recommend? There’s none where I live, and if it’s too expensive (with shipping and all) it might be more economical for me to just get the same body if a good deal shows up 😅 in the meantime, I still have my trusty SRT 202

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      muhd shazwan It’s a good camera and still relatively cheap at the moment, so I’d say it’s worth it if you find a working copy. Personally, I prefer the reliability of Minolta SRT 202 though.

    @xymonlee7119 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you overexposed any of this pic and can you explain what back lit mean

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xymon Lee I usually overexpose by one to two stops. I’m not sure which ones here were overexposed anymore but it’s safe to assume they’re at least one stop over. As for backlit, it’s when there’s a strong light coming from behind the subject, coming towards the camera. For example, if it’s almost sunset and the sun is behind your subject, that would usually trick the light meter to keep your subject in shadow, hence it’d better to overexpose during those situations.

    • @xymonlee7119
      @xymonlee7119 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bon Adriel A. Oh okey so if it’s dark background you’ll under expose it

    • @xymonlee7119
      @xymonlee7119 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bon Adriel A. And I have one more question When you lower the box speed to you still need to use your exposure adjustment. And does the exposure adjust only works when your in manual or it could also work when your at aperture mode?

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xymon Lee hmm it all depends on the light falling on your subject. If your subject is too bright compared to its background (e.g., there’s a strong light hitting them), you should underexpose a little to bring back details in the highlights. But if you have a dark background and a dark subject, you shouldn’t underexpose. Whereas backlit subjects usually mean dark subject and bright background so to have details in the shadow, you overexpose.
      Marko from Analog Things explains exposure well on this video: th-cam.com/video/iqU5YRG8WiE/w-d-xo.html
      It’s for polaroids, but can translate to film as well.
      But also maybe I should make my own video about how I deal with exposure 😝

    • @Bonsees
      @Bonsees  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xymon Lee I usually overexpose by choosing an ISO speed that’s one below the box speed (so for 400, I rate it at 200) hence, the camera will always
      overexpose by 1 stop on auto modes like aperture priority. For the Minolta X-700 there’s also an exposure compensation dial where you can add or decrease by 1 to two stops which you can use when you’re in one of the auto modes (it won’t do anything if you’re in Manual). If you’re in Manual, you kinda have to think about it for yourself (like whether you want to open up your aperture more or slow down the shutter speed to let more light in), but the light meter will still meter as if you have a 200 ISO film instead of 400. If you just follow what the light meter says, then you’ll still be 1 one stop over.
