    I am looking forward to this. I've walked Chancellorsville of course including standing in the median of Highway 3 so I'm hopeful of getting a better grasp on the First Day's battle.

    Loving the battle history content that is available these days. Before the internet it was all through books, nothing wrong with that but these types of detailed videos are a dream come true. Especially if you live overseas.

    It is mind blowing that every inch of this battlefield was not preserved in the 1800s. The thought of losing this forever is heart breaking. If I win the lottery, you guys will be on the short list.

    Last summer I was able to hit Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania, the Wilderness, and Fredericksburg in the same day! It was a day well spent!

    Will there ever be a continuation of (May the 3rd) video? Seems like that would be a fantastic addition to this video. BTW, loved this video, why I am asking for more detail. Regiments around Chancellor House were well supplied with ammunition and from what I have read lots of fierce fighting on the third (salient fight). Seems most detail about Chancellorsville seems to fine tune Jackson's Flank attack and then the battle is done??? Keeping my fingers crossed for a new video.

    I'm not sold on these virtual tours. I won't have my battle walks this year but I will be present on the hallowed ground of Gettysburg on July 1,2 and 3!

    Where is part two. We ALWAYS hear about that flank attack but there’s more days to this battle.

    Very informative. Thanks. The way things are going, we'll only have virtual tours of the battlefields before long. They'll be decommissioned. Some of these protesters hate everything to do with the Civil War, even though they probably couldn't identify the century in which it took place. That said, at least they could recognize the immense value of the fields from an ecological point of view.

    I visited Chancellorsville several years ago. I never visited any civil war site that touched me as much as the spot where Lee and Jackson had their last meeting before Jackson got shot. It looks almost the same as when they were there. Hauntingly great and I was born a Yankee but have lived in Virginia for the past 54 years. I love anything that has to do with the Civil War. Sad time, but it’s our history.

      Gary Knepper was it Jackson that got shot by his own men ?

    • @freestateproductions1790
      @freestateproductions1790 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Jackson was shot by his own men but he died of Pneumonia after healing from his wounds

    • @garyknepper4546
      @garyknepper4546 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheap Laugh Kennedy yes sir it was. They amputated his arm and he was recovering and then he got pneumonia and died about 8 days later. When he got shot Lee said “Jackson lost his left arm, I have lost my right.” Jackson’s last words were, “let us cross over the river and rest in the shade of the trees.” They are not sure if he was talking about Heaven or if he was reliving a battle.

      There should be a replica of the statue in Baltimore with both Lee and Jackson together put on this battlefield.

      The Germans in the 11th Corps were every bit brave and soldiery. Do you know that one of them received the Medal of Honor for his bravery at Chancellorsville? I have a list of Confederate casualties on May 2, and a lot of them died at the hands of the 11th. The Germans were used as scapegoats and because of the Lost Cause myth a lie has persisted. They certainly held Jackson up long enough so that he was doing recon in the dark. For all the what if that gos on about Jackson "what if" the 11th Corp did not hold him up that night?

    The full name of U.S. Ford was 'United States Gold Mine Ford'. U.S. Ford was the ford across which the Union Army retreated.
    What argues against Jackson's moving up the Bullock Road is that Lee wanted Jackson to link up with Lee's forces to Jackson's southeast and to avoid further splitting the rebel army.
    Witnesses to the shooting of Jackson said that the incident occurred on the Plank Road, not the Mountain Road. The witnesses said that Hill and his staff were behind Jackson and his group as they all rode eastward along the Plank Road when the firing occurred.

    The men here obviously know far more than I do, and when covering a huge battle in 1hr a lot needs to be left out. A note about with the 32 minute mark. Hooker did say to cook rations and prepare to persue. But this was afternoon. Hooker had ordered that division to fortify at daybreak. If the general would have followed orders he would have had half a day worth of fortifications.

      Really? These monuments are on a battlefield that both sides fought on. I dont agree that rebel monuments should be on any battlefield. Remember they were the traitors that fired on the standard and really we should be commemorating the glorious federal, government troops that fought and died at these locations. But at least they are not in the middle of a town square on public property such shame!

      BLM and Antifa. You know, the ones rioting and “protesting” right now? They’re already tearing down all these statues. And defacing monuments. They’re already talking about trying to do something with Mt. Rushmore. These people are full of hate for great Americans and our history and have no chill and no reasoning.

      Oh so what, all the Texans that fought valiantly FOR TEXAS at Gettysburg and such should just be forgotten and shat on? The war was the price both north and south paid for American slavery. If southern battlefield monuments come down, so do Northern ones.
