a finn here! yeah we have a gender neutral third person personal pronoun, it's "hän". I love finnish language in general but I didn't understand what a privilege it was to have that pronoun until I started learning french, german etc. of course there are other languages that have a gender neutral pronouns (!!) but it's usually in addition to she/he pronouns, we only have "hän". also an amazing video as always, thank you

Ok, this is very self-indulging (I mean responding to my own comment, who I'm I doing this for, dude?), but after finishing this video and a bottle of wine by myself (and I rarely drink, so I'm basically drunk), I've decided to subscribe. I'm curious about how it was for Paul being raised by Jamaicans while being gay. I'm jamaican and I can't find any accepting parents down here, including mine and I'm sure your parents weren't at some point, being from the Bible thumping island that is jamaica. I wonder if the culture in America changed them or if they held on to their old ways. 🙃
Mr. Struggle I probably got lucky being born/raised in a more tolerant-to-gays country like America, but less tolerant-to-blacks country / and just got lucky with my parents overall. Short version, my parents were always striving to make sure my siblings and I were happy and safe; and that we knew to treat all people the same way they treated us. I know my parents worried more abt us being black kids and now adults in America more than caring about who we love, as long as we are loving ourselves in that process of finding and giving love. As we all became more comfortable as being ourselves, they became more comfortable too. I'd hope any fear / resistance a parent has to a child being "different" is just an irrational fear of that child being ostracized. Their intolerance is usually rooted and misplaced in religious and unfortunately societal structures. But like I talked about that "a-ha" moment I had with Ms. Bisset + my upbringing; I chose to treat and love ppl the way I want to be treated, and if they dont want to deal with me at my kindest, they can waste all their breath talking about me as I love my damn life being as happy as I can without them 💁🏾♂️
