This is great. I just watched the Jonathan Mover interview and I remember him from when he was involved with Steve's friend and bassist Stu Hamm playing as Joe Stariani's band. I never knew Steve was such a Todd fan. I loved the 'Ra' and 'A Wizard a True Star' albums when I was a young guitar learner. Steve is also a big fan of Tom Waits.
Awesome interview. I love that you enlightened steve to how unique and rare dual improv soloing with frank is and he seemed to never realize it. Great to hear about the depth of his transcription work as well.
Gregg I know you from the Cecil trio album . I'm Vai's age exactly ( I turn 64 in Sept) WKCR was my station. As well as WPLJand others. I grew up w 3 classical stations in NY . Jazz came later ( I was 14 / 15). A perfect time to see Mingus before he died. . Git into Hendrix & Zep later & YES around75 76 .. Thanks for this wonderful interview
Great Interview. I'm beyond disappointed I didn't scoop up tickets to see that Beat tour, it sold out/got expensive FAST. Oh well, I've got to see Danny Carey at least (with Tool)...
John McLaughlin and Alan Hols worth are the greatest teachers of shred guitar during the 80s , It took Jazz guitarist to show rock guitarist how to do it right.
Gregg - Great interview with Steve! By the way, don't lean into the mic, you're overmodulating and it creates an imbalance between your mic level and the guests mic level.
Thank You Steve ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was cool. Glad to hear so much about Todd
Kudos to Steve for tackling this project!
Glad you’ve stuck at it, Gregg. Best music interviews on TH-cam. Many thanks.
As always, I never get tired of listening to Steve tell these stories! More, more, more, please!😊

I got to see Steve with Zappa in 81, fascinating interview Gregg
Vai song was my favorite song on the Space Force album, really enjoy it
Always an engaging interviewee. And he's one of the few Americans whose vocabulary is not limited to the word 'like' or kindalike' 😂
I'd say that Frank's playing with Jean Luc Ponty on Canard Du Jour (SUAPYG) is in the same ballpark as the Stevie's Spanking collaboration, no?

Great interview, well done! Too many advert interruptions, though, is there any way round that?
Streaming platforms. ( try Brave)
Hey, Crimson fans, Mr. Fripp has given his personal blessing to this endeavor so shut yer Piehole!!😁
I won't get to see Beat, I hope they release some of it on cd!
Didn't Fripp do a G3 tour as an opener? I recall reading that he was thrilled that he didn't have to pay to play.

I want to meet Steve Vai
Where is the entire Roxy album transcribed ?
Is it b.s ?, show us ONE page of it if it’s not.
No One asks where it is when he brings it up. !
