    Today I had a lady come through my drive thru with a coupon that made an item $1 and then she ordered another item that was already $1, and then she didn't understand why her bill was $2.12... It took 2 cashiers and a MANAGER to explain to her that each item was $1 and also had $.06 tax on each dollar... She couldn't have been older than 35

    • @spooniesarah
      @spooniesarah 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I learned that as a child when buying stuff at the dollar store. Everything was exactly $1, but I had to make sure I had an additional 5 cents per dollar I intended to spend, to cover tax.

      I remember seeing commercials as a kid that said, "If you can find 4 quarters in your sofa cushions, you can buy _____ at Taco Bell, because this month they're only one dollar each!" And I told my dad how they were lying, because, what about tax? He told me that some states did not have sales tax, which blew my mind. "What?! When I buy a piece of gum for 25 cents, I have to make sure I have extra pennies, because the tax is 8.7 cents on the dollar!"
      It didn't bother me too much before, since it was THE LAW, but to find out there are places where nobody paid that -- well, it was infuriating to little kid me. And adult me too, I guess.

      @@michaelwinkle4480 I'm smiling at the injustice to little kid you. I get you.
      To adult you, I'd offer this comfort. The tax is still being paid in States with no sales tax. It's just that they are not turning business owners into unpaid tax collectors for the Gubmint.
      The people in those States are simply paying a differently structured tax.. But the money is till getting where it needs to go, without unfairly targeting the poor (or little kids).

      Was she a foreigner? Many countries use a VAT rather than Sales Tax. VAT is already included in the sale price so the price on the shelf is what you actually pay. Sales Tax being added to the listed price shocks a lot of Non-Americans for this reason.

    Me: "....wut....?"

    In highschool a girl walks into our classroom looks at the map of North America that had been pulled down and says
    "Since when was Alaska all the way up there? I thought it was down here near Hawaii"
    My teacher and I look at each other with our jaws dropped. Apparently she had scene Those maps of the mainland US that put Hawaii and Alaska in little boxes off the coast of California. For some reason she thought that was the accurate map despite definitely having seen proper maps countless times in her educational career. I could see an elementary school kid making this mistake but not a highschool junior.

    How to double click. Computers have been common in homes for the last 40 years. I don't know how someone could get to this day and age never having touched a computer in their entire life, especially if they have been employed this whole time. Anyway, I've had to train more than one person to do this. Those were some very hard days... especially when we hadn't even gotten to the comparator for measurements, all the gauges, the micrometer, and the excel spreadsheet sheets.

    • @OuroborosChoked
      @OuroborosChoked 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be a little generous, most people didn't have home computers until Windows 95/98 made it super easy. And Macs don't require double-clicking most of the time. So at worst, 25 years. Before Windows 95 (again, unless you used Apples), DOS was more commonly used than Windows 3.1/3.11 and DOS didn't use a mouse.
      All that said, it's been 25 years. You can learn a language in less time. I feel your pain. My boss double-clicks _everything._ URLs, emails, buttons in apps... I don't have the energy to try to train her out of it and don't see myself having any success anyway. It'd be tremendous effort for trivial success even if I accomplished my goal.

    The disabled parking placard is not completely accurate. If you drive the disabled person and drop them off at the front of the store/building/entrance/etc, then you are not supposed to use the disabled parking spots since you are not disabled and can walk from the car to the building.

    • @randystegemann9990

    I live in the upper Midwest and a year ago a coworker of mine went to Tennessee for vacation. A few weeks after she got back another coworker and I were talking about astronomy. She said that she loved stargazing in Tennessee because you're closer to the stars down there. I was confused at first then realized that she was in a rural area of Tennessee with no street lights. The lack of street lights makes the stars look brighter by comparison. The way her brain interpreted the extra brightness was that the stars themselves are closer to Earth in the south than they are in the Midwest. Tried to explain that the stars are so far away that driving a few hundred miles isn't going to make a difference in their appearance but I could tell she didn't get it.

    Apparently a *lot* of people are under the impression eggs are a dairy product- I guess because in most grocery stores(in the U.S. anyway) the eggs are right next to the milk- guilt by association.

    • @supertuber120

      I'm allergic to dairy. Sometimes when I'm about to take a bite of fried rice people will say, "Stop!! That has eggs in it", thinking they had just saved me. Things like that started happening so often that now I tell people I'm allergic to milk products so they understand that I'm O.K. with eggs.

    My mom’s a Karen sometimes.
    In the past I was too afraid to say anything, but now I do. I have been making her aware of her behavior. She’s improved, but not after some conversations you’d have with a toddler.
    I’d tell her she would be a public embarrassment. She said she didn’t care. I would explain why to her. And I would do that a lot for multiple occasions. I would also explain the reasons why that was uncalled for and embarrassing for each situation. And she improved!
    So happy ending I guess.
    A long way to go. A few incidents happened today. I had to apologize to somebody for her, which I do a lot. But uh, improvement! It was on the phone about criteria that I need to be a student for the fall semester. The next thing was over a prom dress that was mildly “stained”. Granted, the dress was $250, the price was lowered to $200. Later we start theorizing that the “stain” is a part of the dress because it is never the same and doesn’t act like a stain. And she fucking loves the dress.
    Happy ending.
    It’s a work in progress

    Bob misunderstood something he heard (we've ALL done that!)
    Bob knew that what he understood to have happened would have dire consequences. (This part is very true. If Bob had been correct in what he thought had happened, we'd be in a tough spot!)
    Bob went to the smartest man he knew with his concerns. (This is where the departure from normal Americana really happens!)
    Bob understood the explanation and was relieved to find out the truth. (No resemblance to normal Americana Freakouts even exists at this point.)
    I REALLY, REALLY want more Drunk Bob's in my life.....

    Actually the nurse not starting her day at midnight in Pennsylvania could be correct. Many nursing jobs work overnight and start before midnight but the work day is technically counted as the following day since the majority of the work day is worked during that day. It's weird and confusing and dumb but it IS correct.
