17:36 - I just love how some guy told him to play a song backwards and he playfully obliged instead of rolling his eyes or ignoring him like some other performers would. He was so sweet, humble, and adorable! What a loss to humanity, never mind the world of music.

...I recorded this video long ago...I went with two friends and we were able to get really close to the front of what eventually became easily over 200 people...there were two guys right in front of us that were cool enough to move a little bit out of the way because they saw that I was recording...it was pretty amazing...I felt a little guilty being right up on top of him but I figured screw it...it was pretty awesome...also saw him later that night play with quasi at Liberty lunch...he came up and accompanied them on "the poisoned well" which I believe may have been about the guy to begin with...afterwards, I was approached by a guy who wanted to trade a soundboard recording of the set for the tape of the show which I did, but before I was able to trade the tape, I went to a hypnotist performance at Utsa with my buddy...that would explain the weird recording at 28 minutes in...ill have to post that sound board recording in here soon...after the set we met him and gave him an antique photo of my friends' and i's artistic interpretation of "southern belle" and told him the reason we did it was because we figured that he was sick and tired of pictures of him...it was a memorable few moments with him...

He was so humble and inadequate. But out of this world Talented. The things he was playing and what I was hearing didn’t really register.

If he was alive and I met him I’d definitely express how much I love his music but I’d also ask him where he got those chord progressions/inspiration from..at least his influences if any to make sense of how he could write so many beautiful but completely out of the box chord progressions..he has the Beatles flare with a lot of chords/Melodie’s but I feel like he combines classical influences or something..to have progressions that sound that amazing but haven’t been played before is pretty insane to me. Elton John could do magic with chords/melody too that was similarly complicated but obviously very different..he was a classically trained musician so I just wonder. It comes from your heart and your ear but there’s a lotta creative/technical thinking that makes it so masterful all together.

Greatest song writer ever since in my opinion. The Melodie’s he felt were so emotional and unique it’s like a John Lennon..a creativity that surpasses any technical boundary too..tho his songs are pretty complicated, he could write a song that does so much without ever showing off..every note and lyric was so genuine with melody that was so eerily beautiful. No one like him and sadly no one will ever be..I really wish he was still here.

I remember this like yesterday!!!! i was so excited to get to see him at Waterloo, i was 14years old! I had seen and met him at a set couple months before at SouthBy and was just awestruck by what he could do, this was back when SXSW was, well what it was meant to be, no longer.... Rock on Elliot, you will forever be in our hearts...

I was there! I saw him several time in Austin, first at Liberty Lunch with Sebadoh. At the Electric Lounge with Pete Krebs. Sadly, great Austin venues that are no longer around. Elliott's music really saved me in my twenties. RIP, dear Elliott! You are dearly missed.

Thanks for sharing, awesome setlist. And he sounds great, voice and guitar. Cool that it's a texas show too when you know how much of a problem he had with dallas. Love the absolute silence during the music, sign of respect. I didn't discover elliott until I saw The Royal Tenenbaums and went home and downloaded Needle in the Hay. Wish I would have known about him sooner so I could have caught some shows like this before things got all fucked up.

Wow, this is fantastic!! September 26, 1998, my 28th birthday and we took the train into NYC from Connecticut to bar hop in the lower east side, listening to bizarro hipster bands....I'd have much rather been here in Austin, a place I've never been, not even Texas.
