- The colorful Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan held every May do not only speak of our country’s deep religious devotion to Mary, but it’s also a way of showcasing Filipino craftsmanship, design, and creativity.

For almost two decades, it has been a tradition for Leah Espinosa and the Blue Water Youth Organization to plan and organize the Santacruzan as a way of thanking the Lord for all the blessings they receive as well as giving back to their community.
This generation of Santacruzan or Flores de Mayo is becoming more of a beauty pageant, not honoring our Blessed Mother Mary.

back to the spanish era the Santacruzan is a religious-historical beauty pageant, which depicts the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena (or Reyna Elena) and her son, the newly converted emperor Constantine. the most beautiful maidens and most debonair young men in the town are chosen to take part in the pageant....sad lang nowadays, its more on the pageant side at fashion show na nawala na ang religious essence nito

This is a poor documentary of an old Filipino tradition. If only they'd focus more on the essence of the Santa Cruz and, rather than tying it with beauty pageant, they could have produced a better substance.
