Hi. My surgery, C4-5 5-6 6-7, is in six days. I’ve been so worried about not being able to sleep. I have the recliner but I’m a side sleeper. This is so helpful and calmed my nerves just a tad and for that I say thank you!
I had my C5-6 done 13+ years ago. Now I am looking at the C4-7 being done. The first surgery helped. I just think through the years I have Overdone it too much. Looking forward to getting this done and the video is a good refresher
@@Its2ru how are you doing? I’m now 2-1/2 months in and sleeping is still my biggest hurdle. Just so stiff and although I’m sleeping through most of the night, I’m very sore getting up. The wedge pillow worked good for a while. Good luck my friend!
I’ve had 4 neck surgeries with 3 of them being fusions. I’ve had 2 ACDF c5c6 c6c7 first and then c5c6c7 posterior Laminectomy and fusion with rods and screws. And developed a hematoma so had 3rd surgery posterior then just sept 5 had c5-c7 hardware removal then c3c4c. C4c5 ACDF and and replaced all hardware and screws from C3-c7. The recliner is my go to but I can manage a few hours here and there in bed But I will say last couple of days I’ve been using the bed. I’m still not sleeping well and have moderate to above moderate pain most days. But I’m making it.
@@Drp432 WOW! Prayers for you 🙏🏼. The numbness came back but now in both arms/hands. I believe it’s a pinched nerve. I have another MRI scheduled for next week. Gabapentin seems to be helping but still waking up very sore
Thank you. I’m gonna try sleeping on my side tonight. I been sleeping on my back for the past 4 weeks and it’s uncomfortable. I got a c2 fracture and have to wear this brace for 9 weeks. I have 5 more weeks to go to see if I need surgery
@@carlfoltz7256 it's a lot to handle but for our best interest. I'm 5 weeks out now without the brace. I wore mine for 12 weeks. My neck muscles are still gaining mobility. How are you doing overall?
Amazing. Came across this video in a CCI group. I've had my collar for almost a year and still haven't been able to sleep with it properly on those occasions when it would help. I use Pillow Cubes for my shoulders and between my knees already, but really needed to confirm those pressure points that signal alignment issues. Thank you!
I had Fusion surgery (anterior) between C5-6 a week ago. I developed anxiety pretty quick regarding sleeping. Very weird, never had anxiety before. The doc prescribed some help for that, but still getting comfortable has been very hard. My biggest issue is then I have the brace on properly, then lay down in any position, it becomes very uncomfortable. I have to loosen the brace allot. Then, naturally, it doesn't fit well, and has it's own issues. What I'm starting to wonder if people with smaller frames have an easier time with it fitting better for sleep. I think I have one more week until I start getting off the brace as I'm healing very quickly, but still. This is horrible. I am normally a side sleeper, so I'll try some of these techniques during nap time today. (nap time? that's a first for me too) Thanks for the info. God bless Valium.
Thank you! Will try. Obviously I had to go looking for this info. Doc gave orders after surgery to sleep with the collar, but no clue as to how, so I've been in pain at night :( .
Well done - I find many who have CCI tend to wear their collar too much. But those who do are making themselves worse in the long run from laying with too much traction and making the instability wrose.
I noticed you recommended a recliner video and I am unable to find a video about using a recliner for sleeping with a neck collar after surgery. Is this available?

I had ACDF done last month Jan 25th, C1-C7 and use a CPAP machine, it’s not that bad, just have to keep the straps behind the head support, for me I have to sleep on my back and left side because too much pain on my right side.
I find I’m having a lot of pain from the back of the brace on my head and shoulders. Haven’t been able to get comfortable or sleep yet. Any further advice on managing the brace? Very frustrated.
Hi I have the same neck brace as yours. My problem is that I have severe inflammation in my neck due nerve impingements. As soon as I place the back of my neck with my neck brace against anything it will flare up.
What about sleeping in a cervical neck brace that has thoracic support? I have surgery in 5 days to remove a nerve sheath tumor in spine, between C7 and T1. They will remove it and do a spinal fusion 2 up/2 down and add hardware. I've tried finding a comfortable spot and it's impossible.
The extra extension piece definitely adds a challenge for sleep positioning. Have you considered renting a hospital bed with a low air loss mattress for the recovery? That was a common setup I would use for spinal injuries or surgeries requiring longer recoveries and full-time brace wearing. Many basic spinal surgeries will clear someone to remove some portion of their brace at night, but it sounds like that is not the case for you.
@@EquipMeOT Thank you so much for replying. We actually have it to where the bar on back comes off at night. This is a 3 in 1 brace that can be changed as my healing moves forward. I have to where this all the time, except in shower. We got it figured out the 2nd night after surgery.
