It's so important for prisons to have programs like this that give people tools to live healthier and more productive lives and prevent recidivism. It's a shame that good programs seem to be few and far between and underfunded.

If the rule is everyone deserves compassion then you are breaking the rules. If the rule is compassion can be with-held then why should they respect others?Morality is not merely a set of rules.

So what's the difference between drug use and drug abuse? Just because a substance is illegal, and you use it, doesn't make one an abuser.

If they are detoxing and talking about relapse then obviously they are addicts. the word abuse is kind of ridiculous. I guess you can abuse your body by being addicted to certain drugs but you can do the same with food, no one would say they abuse cheeseburgers though.

+John Wilson How much of this talk is just BS to get reduced sentences for victimless crimes?

David Scott I'd imagine a decent amount. But as far as I'm concerned i couldnt care less if someone wants to take every drug known to man, go right ahead as long as they aren't harming others. There are plenty of treatment centers out of jail one can go to. if a man really wants to break an addiction he can do so outside of prison systems.

It's pretty impossible to use coke or opiates in moderation and I think that's why it's always called abuse. I have done it though, it just depends on the person, but most people overdo it. Drugs should be regulated so people can get treatment instead of their life destroyed in prison, and drug rings would disappear, meaning a lot less crime in cities. Taking drugs safely is no threat to anyone, but some people just overdo it and end up robbing people and stores to get some money. If they could walk into a treatment clinic, that wouldn't happen. They want to stop, and they have no problem taking methadone rather than risking their ass robbing someone to get some dope. It's working for Portugal.

Prisoners should not be able to talk to each other. Prison is like a school to be good at being a criminal. But being a privatized business in all doubt they want to stop crime. Just make money off of it.

Addicts can't stop cold turkey, they need help to break away from it. Same with eds (eating disorders) they can't just quit because they're dependent on it.
