Thank you for this video. Very interesting use of natural resources when little else is available. The effort required to fashion such a shelter and its resultant efficacy reinforce my opinion: A 9' X 9' tarp is a wonderful thing. It offers great protection and can be set up in minutes with but little effort. In all honesty, I would carry a tarp before I would carry a shovel.
How deep was the snow? I suggest digging it out like a slit trench shoulder wide, then putting some fir branches in to lay on and a log roof with fir branches on top. The snow has great insulating properties.
